Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

The UnderDog That No One Saw Coming - GENESES

Its called Curse of the 1st. Even in Top 8 cut there is a strong possibility that the 8th seed beats the #1st seed. This is not the NCAA tourney where a #1 seed has never lost to a #16 team. Guarenteed that will happen though one day.

Oh gee, thanks for reminding me what happened in the Canadian Eastern Regionals where I went 6-0 in Swiss and got beaten in Top 8 by Greg due to a horrible match up

Gen: You might as well call your deck "Exploding Sauce" since it contains Exploud and Golem

hahaha, good one, how about "self - explouding" you saw my last match  it's exactly how i won =D

i kinda like "explouding sauce" though, but i'm still with the "awesome sauce" for me good reasons why =)

haha man Kevin you always come up with the best names.. it seems there's a trend that if you finish near the bottom after the swiss you usually finish better than everyone else ha. At Regionals, I was 7th and Greg was 8th I believe and it was us two in the finals. Same thing at provincials for me, I was 7th after the swiss and made it the top 2 and lastly Nationals showed the same trend for Bidier. Bottom line, is that it happens and whether you cut top 16 or top 8 the bottom seed still has the chance to take it all. Let's not forget that at Nationals, the bottom half all finished with a record of 5-2 and there were no 4-3 that made it through. I find this the fairest way to give everybody who earned that record a chance to compete in the top 16 with no tie breakers necessary ( would have been real bad for me seeing I got a bye second round). All in all, congrats to everybody that made it up the top 16 and congrats to those that got there, because both are accomplishments in themselves. It's time to look to worlds and move on.

yes going 8-0 and losing to #32 is pretty lame ;/

even if i dont play next year at all, im going to make sure i show up at nationals ;x

I think I've been the only person this season here to have X-0'd any event? (X-0 1 cities, states and a BR. only 3, i know, im terrible etc.)

haha Kant, you know how I do it. All my cuts have been decided on the final game in the swiss. Makes it more exciting than going x-0 ;) haha.. nah, your x-0 just means your deck is consistent which is a good thing =D ...

I don't expect everyone to agree with me, especially those who finished 9-16. With a field of 69 and a top 16 cut, you have 23% of the field making the cut, r u kidding me, this is ridiculous. The solution is to run 1 more round of swiss, 8 rounds instead of 7. Now, half the 5-2, become 6-2 and half become 5-3, in addition, these tournaments work better when ties are allowed. Tied when time is called, should be marked down a tie. Forget about magic where intentional draws are legal, this is even more true in pokemon where stalling is a fact of life, and even "encouraged" by pop. By not having a proper way to deal with it, you encourage it, magic has the 5 turn rule after time is called. I watched the final 4 in 2006 Pokemon Worlds, where a kid literally did nothing for 5 minutes to steal the win by one prize, and his opponent would have knocked out a ex for the win, had he got another turn. He took a long and I mean LONG look thru his discard pile, then his opponent discard, then his discard again, etc, etc There is no perfect way of doing things, or perfect system, but magic/Mtg is the closest and fairest system going among these card games, IMO. I have easily played 100 sanctioned dci tournaments with Wizards and easily 100 pokemon tournaments, and the dci system is the clear winner. Unless you have played 100 tournaments under each system, you won't get what I'm saying, you need to go thru it, trust me. And by the way I have finished 9th, and missed the top 8 cut many, many times, including a dci tournament with a first prize of $10,000, and I still advocate top 8 and the dci way.

Greg.

23% of the people making the cut is not that high dude...in all professional sports the percentage of teams that make the playoffs is much greater than that....although it might not be a fair comparison, making it like 15% of the people seems a little bit extreme. people can have unfortunate losses, especially in just best of 1 games, let alone best of 3...and this allows some room to correct that. saying you have to go perfect or near perfect in swiss is not fair to the people who have put a lot of time planning their deck and losing 1 game from a brutal opening hand and therefore not making the cut.

Ahh what do you call the 06 US Nationals Champ? Not undeafeated at 06 nats? The only reason that has happend in pokemon is because of the luck factor or bad matchups. When the 8th players beats the 1st that player is extremely foturnate and lucky. Not calling anyone who has done that lucky. Just he or she ran into good matchups and good options when the other person didn't. Im the type of player is if you lose you lose theirs no excuse. If you had a bad start dont blame anyone else blame the way you shuffle or the consistancy of your deck. Everyone should have no excuse to a win or loss. Either one after the match or sport or w/e, your head should be up high. Holla at cha boii!

There's no such thing as "Curse of the First." I hate it when people that are undefeated in an age group go, "OMG! I'm not gonna win b/c of the Curse of the First!!!1!1!" And while I'm at it there's no such thing as luck.

^^^ :eek:No such thing as luck????

Congrats on the win, and good luck at worlds. Seems like there is too much history behind this thread for this foreigner to make much sense of it.

FWIW I can't see anyone using your deck's name as you haven't posted a list and the name makes no sense to me. This is an outsiders point of view and doesn't count for much. Just a heads up that your character will be judged by how you post here and elsewhere. You can be the nicest person in the world in real life and that will count for nothing with those of us who only have yor online persona to go by.

I'm getting old! I'm turning into my Parents :)

ok, heres what Ithink about this topic and you winning...

it looks like you just jooined the Pokegym to gloat about about how you won and your deck. You didn't even pick out a sig or avatar, and have only posted in this thread. And you make like your deck is the "new deck for Nats! it'll win everything! Netdeck if you wish!" but it won't be (imo). Because of your bragging (and probaly d0nking) noone will use it. And the report wasn't detailed at all, you just wanted to put a huge name like "AWSOME SAUCE" in a huge font with colours on the 'gym.

SoTG, buddy!

Well, at least you don't expect people to agree with you all the time, that's one good thing. In the scenario you described above, personally I would have thrown a quick time extension into the mix just to shake things up. It should be obvious that the person was stalling, so a time extension would have been appropriate to fix that. As for Magic's superior match end ..... meh, 5 turns can be pretty long. Playing? What's that? Since there hasn't been a lot of professors rising above the bunch to step up to the plate, I haven't done much playing - even at league. Nice thought tho. Maybe this year things will happen differently.

Pokekid: last week or not, still a viable thread. Get over it, and yourself.

get over what?
not like i lost to him, i lost to a high caliber player
still pretty disappointing when yah think about it =/
