To Be Flipped Or Not To Be Flipped

AHHH! The eternal question! This is more of a general opinion question. I don't like using any trainer or Pokemon that requires a flip to be successful! To me Pokemon is a strategy game and introducing the luck factor on a regular basis is not strategy... but that is my humble opinion and since I enjoy reading everyones comments on the wonderful site, I thought I would take a look and see what other people think about "to flip or not to flip" enjoy!

For the most part, I agree; Trainers that rely on a flip are usually to be avoided. However, this isn't always the case. For example, in some decks, I like Pokémon Reversal, simply because the Gust effect, even on a flip, is so powerful. If I have the choice between a flip and another drawback (such as discarding cards), though, I'll usually go for the other drawback.

I try to drive out the luck, but more and more I am thinking that today's modified is pushing the luck factor a lot more. For now, I avoid the flips. I don't mind an attack that includes a flip for something extra, but I won't play one that, if the flip fails the attack fails.

But that's just me. I did lose a match once when a kid flipped four heads in a row :)

I played at the Chilean nationals with one boy who played me 2 Mary's Impulse in two turns in a row, in the first he draw 16 and in the second he goes with 12
Then I make a Copycat ^^

Would you get angry if your opponent keeps flipping two heads in a row for dusclop's judgement attack and knock out your pokemon and especially pokemon-ex?

i would check their coin (running....)

i hate putting flip cards in my deck
the only fliping i do is when im asleep or confused or trying to cause the defending pokemon to become paralyzed etc.

and when people flip, they sometimes just toss it in the air so it automatically lands on heads (they do that often here, it's quite easy to do). or when it's going to land tails, they grab it and flip it again before it hits the table. It really pisses me off when that happens. it's practically cheating, but you can't prove it >_<

When we play we don't use coins for flipping, we use dice (six sided), heads are even and tails are odds. Seems to work better and less arguing about the coin toss.

Yea Flippy things are anoying but helpful if you get them to work. But overall I hate using cards that require a flip. Even though it ads an exciting twist to the game. I guess it just depends on your taste.

Flipping to determine the actual outcome of a game (like in the days of Focus Band/Baby Rule)should be left at a minimum. This is one reason that alot of TCG'ers dont take Pokemon serious. I've heard many times how someone dislikes the game because it is too "flippy".

well is pokemon a flipping game!?!

flip who starts 1st
flip for tyrouge
flip for poke reversal
flip for rocket experiment
flip for baby
flip to heal(moo milk)
flip for attack when confuse

flip flip flip flip flip flip flip flip flip flip flip flip flip flip annoying LOL
some cards in yugioh require dice but usually appear in fun decks, but they attack don require a FLIP,restricted magic or traps doesnt need flip

if japanese feel tat those cards are too broken ,restrict them like yugioh or make them supporter

I think there should be a card (such as a Stadium card) that can reduce the luck and increase the skill factor by doing something like this:

"When a player plays a Trainer card or use an attack (excluding attacks that can Paralyze the Defending Pokémon), you may discard 2 cards from your hand as a substitute for flipping a coin."

That way, you can use more strategy, but at a cost that can be less than if a coin flip fails. I do agree that the game is too "flippy", but it's a unique mechanic of the game.

Yes its easy to understand getting annoyed with two flips on Dusclop's judgement and you lose a poke-ex just like that! But on the other hand the opponent is playing Dusclops as part of his strategy and is gambling the bit hit against doing nothing! So yes it is flippy and obviously down to luck but that's the trade off!

That is precisely the reason I came within a gnat's eyelash of tossing all my cards in the dumpster and walking away for good. I just got so sick of coin flips deciding the game. There is very little satisfaction in winning when you know you just out-lucked your opponent rather than outplayed him. It was aggravating as all get-out to play everything exactly right and still get beat by the coin.

I got so sick of being dissed and ridiculed for stating my objection to all the flips that I dropped off the boards. I am just now starting to look at them again on a regular basis.

Yes flips are part of the game, but they should never BE the game. I've got no problem with a flip determining which of two things happens, but I'll avoid "tails fails" like the plague.

This is my reason... it is the CHANCE factor in pokemon.
POKEMON has awesome draw power, has ways to manipulate the deck, the discard...
Something had to give... hence the flips.

I was never a fan of Focus band... but after much playtesting in early modified... it was the way to go... you just had to chance that fgator could get another attack if it was NOT knocked out.

I remember those debates... *ugly* I do believe though the babies are extinct no? Or atleast in the manner that they were abused... we all know those babies that just would not get knocked out...

I am forced to agree with the majority
I hate having to flip too many coins (roll dice) in a single game
because if this game really does rely on skill to win, than we should take away the luck
but of course, name one other card game that has the draw power of pokemon (as stated earlier) so random TeCH cards don't hurt nor help as much as in Yu-Gi-Oh or Magic
so it seems that flips make the game better in some sense
