Hello again!
We left for Atlanta to play Pokemon but also to see the Terra Cotta Chinese soldiers and the King Tut exhibit at the Civic Center. Friday we saw the soldiers and it was very interesting and historic. Not much to say - if you weren't there.
So, I'm testing like crazy, Gengar/G vs Machamp. My Gengar/G is kicking butt and yet I'm still not sure. I pray on it and decide it's better to lose with something you know than win with something you don't just for the glory of it.
Round 1.. Kevin M. with Machamp mirror
This goes very well for me, except (1) I put out 5 prizes instead of 6, thus pulling another "Tom Wise" and gathering a warning, (2) I use a Hurricane for some stupid reason on an Azelf instead of Take Out, and (3) I accidentally put a KO'd Machamp under my deck instead of in the discard pile. Nerves, I guess. Anyway, I take it. 1-0
Round 2... Kyle with Machamp mirror
This goes right down to the wire. I took 3 early prizes, but he made a strong comeback. Then we traded prizes until 5-5. I then gusted him easily for the 6th prize. It was indeed a "lame" end to a great game. 2-0.
Round 3... (cool guy) with G deck
I start Unown G. He starts Dialga. I go first. Oy. He Poke-Turns Dialga, bring up Skuntank with Energy Gain and Energy, lays Lake Boundary, gets the "dirty" win. Hey, it's all good. I donk, you donk. Whatevah. We played a fun game after that went the distance and I won. 2-1.
Round 4... Parth with Blaziken/Heatran/stuff
He never really got it going. We both start slow, but I get tech going early. I get rid of Heatran ASAP. He tries Burn, but I keep rolling mostly heads, Warping, or not caring. He made a decent comeback, but I took the last prize with Revenge+ Level X on clean Blaziken. 3-1
Round 5... Mr. Multi with G
It seems like John never drew anything. He took 1 prize. We had a good time and it was good to catch up with him. Thanks, man. 4-1
Round 6... (good guy) with Gengar/G
Ooohhh, I was gonna face my nemesis. However, he really didn't have the necessary cards, especially Poke Turn, to make it happen. It went pretty well for me. 5-1
Round 7... Viet (Jason) with Kingdra Gonzalez (Speedy)
I'm in now matter what. He beat the living tar out of me with a T1 KO of Azelf. I try a Baltoy. Then I'm Claydolling for a bit and getting something here and there. I think I took a prize. 5-2
TOP 16 TJ with Machamp
TJ almost didn't make it, but I'm glad he did. I won Game 1 fairly easily, getting the jump and using the Tech. His Uxie Lv.X made it hard on me (nice tech!) and he used Plus Power to boot! In the second game, he chose to go FIRST! OMG, I'm holding Machop, Machamp, Energy! I do NOT get RC and he does and donks my Machop. I'm left with little but I try to make the "Big comeback." My mistake was sending up tech Basic to take the fall, devolving a Machamp, while I built, because next turn I got RC, Stage 2, which would've helped tremendously. When he took 4 prizes, I made the decision to go for it and not scoop. It was reasonable. If I could pull within 1 then, take 2 prizes for every 1, I could win. It didn't go well, so I scooped with 2 minutes left. Either way, it was sudden death.
Here's where it gets weird. I knew the tide was turned when he chose in Game 2 to go first and I couldn't capitalize, but I knew I was destined to probably lose when I had the option to choose who went first and my only Pokemon was Sableye! Unlike my match at States, I would not be donking Gastly! I was scared when I saw his Machop. I did what I could and used Impersonate to get Machop and Uxie. He used 2 Uxie and STILL did not donk me! I had a chance! I was able to Warp out his Machoke (from Broken Time Space) and bring up both his Uxie and my Machop. I played Premier Ball for nothing. I did NOT have Machamp SF but Machamp Revenge in hand. Still not bad. I drew my 3 cards and neither a Machoke, nor a Rare Candy. I lose.
TJ went on to beat Ryne Sablehouse's G and another G deck to play for Top vs. another Machamp, and he lost. So, I lost to an exceptional Champ deck and a little bad luck for me.
PROPS
Tymon and crew for a great tourney
nice hotel
my girlfriend for all her support
all my friends, new and old, in Pokemon
SLOPS
not much- just some bad luck
