Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Top 16

Muddy, they BOTH deserved the win. Idc how any of you feel about the deck, Kevin is an amazing player and worked hard for this. It came down to the WIRE with a coin flip/Klingklang topdeck. But congrats to BOTH players.

Well obviously they did, making it to Top 2 at Nats is a huge accomplishment. And I apologize if anyone took that the wrong way.

He won by using Gear Grind....

First flip was tails. DEAD SILENCE in the room.

Second flip...HEADS. Silence was GONE.

Wow, second time I see that a game that came down to a flip. In Top 4, Kevin defeated Jay b/c of getting heads from the Dual Ball on the second coin flip in order to grab a Shaymin to move all his energies in play to Raikou EX to pull off the KO and win on time Game 3

Despite the game ending with a coin flip, I really didn't mind that. In fact, I already had a feeling Klinklang would win, and what do you know, it did! I'm glad it did, as it shows how good the deck really is.

who got senconed in seniors?

Jason Martinez took second in seniors with some sort of Darkrai deck (not sure what variant it was though). Also Ty Wheeler, the new national champion in seniors, ran QuadTerrakion with Mewtwo.

What I want to know is, what did Ian Roberts, the new junior national champion, play? I know that the junior finals was CMT vs Hammertime, but I don't know who was who running what.

I didnt expect klinkklang would win because of Esa. he made hammertime very popular and i expected many players will play hammertime.

Jason played speed Darkrai.

Ian played Hammertime.

Does anyone know what the top 2 decks were in juniors and seniors? Klingklang EX won nationals! Does this mean hydreigon/darkrai will win next year? Biggest let down though for the biggest fan (myself) of zekeels ;(

Juniors:
1st: Ian Robb w/ Hammertime
2nd: Jonathan w/ CMT/Terrakion

Seniors:
1st: Ty Wheeler w/ QuadTerrakion/Mewtwo
2nd: Jason Martinez w/ Speed Darkrai

Interesting fact, the 3rd and 4th places in both juniors and seniors were Darkrai variants. Yep, they didn't have so much variety compared to the masters top 4.

Also, Klinklang actually origninated from the Darkrai/Hydreigon deck in Japan. ATM, it is one of the best decks in Japan, and in this rate, will very likely be the same here for Fall BRs and Fall Regionals. Will it still do well all the way through next year's nationals? Only time will tell.

Most people i talked to didnt think the deck was that amazing. Yeah it autowins against decks that cant accelerate, but in a 1000 person tournament it was just better to go for consistency. Also Esa always wins finland. Give him 4 reshiram ex and 56 energy and hed make the finals.

Haha, thanks for the trust, but I would need at least one Sawk with 4 Reshiram EXs to get into Finals ;)

To be honest, I was very surprised that Klinklang won the U.S. Nationals. Hammertime isn't that bad, but I guess it wasn't that played in the U.S. Nationals. Playing top128 and not facing any Hammertimes means there weren't too many of them. But I think we'll see the whole top128 deck breakdown in a few days and after that we'll see how popular Hammertime was.

Congratulations for the winners of each age division!

Please stop saying that. John has been working on his Klinklang deck since basically around Worlds last year. He made cuts at Autum Battle Roads with Klingklang. He has had this planned LONG before that deck won Japan's Nats. IMO, it highly disrespects John's creativity and deckvuilding skills to assume that he took the concept from that deck without going to find out the back story to this deck.

Are you sure about this post Esa, it isn't smart to reveal your secret tech for Worlds.

Congratulations to all winners! Klingklang winning Nats made my day!

Well excuse me, I didn't even actually know Kettler originally had this idea before Japan's Nats. My apologies. Not only that, but John Kettler mostly kept quiet about it, so this is basically the first time you are really making this known to everyone.

What I don't like is that the time limit played a significant part in deciding the National Champion at least in the Masters division.

In my opinion, the finals should never have a time limit on them. This is the National Championship Finals! Give the players some room and time to play at their best. Limiting them to a strict time limit causes cases like this where the winner is chosen not by taking 6 prizes or by decking the opponent, but by the leftovers of time being called. I know all the games can't be held like this, but I think FINALS deserves that much.

I think they meant John Roberts (Winner today)

Agree but what pisses me of even more is that the guys in charge didn't allow The Top Cut to record the finals, even though TTC were allowed to record typ 16, top 8, and top 4. Why would you not let them record the match when it benefits YOU and everyone else involved in the community?

Really dissapointed. If this game is ever gonna be as big as say Magic it needs EXPOSURE!

Pokemon just needs to bite the bullet and hire The Top Cut as official TCG ambassadors and give them the crew & equipment to report Pokemon full-time, there's no reason that in 2012 I cannot go to pokemon.com and see streaming matches, especially the top 16 when the US National Championship is taking place, that would be like not televising the World Series or Super Bowl. If there is World Juggling Federation on ESPN there should be top tier Pokemon TCG matches on pokemon.com.
