^I really hope you're right, as somebody trying to grind in (I didn't play at all this season). However, I think I asked about that on a different forum and they told me there's almost always only 8 spots to be earned at the grinders. I could be wrong though (hoping I am).

There are only 8 guaranteed spots that have been announced in advance. Anything beyond that is a bonus. Check the Worlds FAQ on the TPCi website.

So the T4 players at NATS that earned a Free trip and are already ranked in the T40 for invites are basically wasted. It really means the T36 get invites because face it if you make T4 at NATS and play about 13 games your ranking is going to be high enough to place in the T40 anyway.

Furthermore, players that won a Trip from last years worlds (Frankie Diaz) are already ranked in the T40 because of his 9-0 NATS performance, thats another wasted Rating invite since he is ranked 17th currently in T40 in NA.

So with no pass downs there are wasted invites is what Im trying to say.

They are not wasted. POP wanted to avoid the hassle of passing down invites, when there were only 20 or 25 2 years ago? With all the passdowns, they calculated more or less always the 4th player in NA got an invite, so instead they allotted alot more invites and denied passdowns, essentially keeping the number the same but avoiding them a huge hassle in figuring out whose is getting passed down and whose isn't.

The invites have been more or less the same every year and Worlds is always tried to be made a 128 person tournament.

I can't see grinders invites in a SE format being anything other than a power of 2 because the SE format eliminates resistance (and thus a way to discriminate between 9-16, for example). So most likely it will be 8 invites, or if we're lucky, 16. I'd like to see more invites given away rather than fewer this year considering how big the grinder will be in SD.
