My son and I are new to the Pokemon world. We are going to our first states next weekend. I need to know what Swiss style and top cut means.

these should explain in more details but in short Swiss means you play X rounds, based on attendance, paired against people with roughly the same win/loss/tie record. Top cut means after the rounds of swiss the Top X players (highest wins, second highest wins, third, fourth etc) play in single elimination tell the winner is determined.
