Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

UK Nationals: horrible decision- comments please...

My 2 cents worth: Nintendo didnt cause the error, so why should they give Irwin the invite?? The invites go out to the winners and those that fall w/in the top2/4/8 (w/ prizes sliding down if already won by 1st, 2nd, etc.) The results are that he didn't QUALIFY for the top 8. How should anyone be given an invite when they didn't qualify?? He can always pay his own way over (which was suggested before w/ an invite), play in the GRINDER like anyone else who didn't WIN an invite and qualify there based upon his play, not his frustration. I agree, the results should have been shown to him on that day. IF he has any gripe at all, it is w/ the HJ (who BTW posted here several times to his credit and showed that he made the right call on the day in question, just not w/a printout then). I ask you all this then....Should the HJ pay for Irwin to come to the Worlds?? I think not.

I think now this line of posts are redundant! Graeme has been extremely big ( no pun intended!! ) to post the amended results and that should now be an end to it! Of course if Irwin feels he has still been wronged then he has a perfect right to pursue it with PUI/TPFG but as far as this thread is concerned its dead in the water! There has also been some " unease " over the judging for this event. In my particular group ( 11-14 ) I didnt have one single bad moment or one instance of my knowledge being called into question! The other judges ( Graeme and Nigel ) also did a blinding job with all the pressure that was there!! The people that have queried the judging have (in the main ) not run or judged in a major event like this and do not know how difficult it can be sometimes! Lets be honest, without people like myself, Nigel, Graeme, Ben ( at Rainham and SE Challenge ) Ian (SE Challenge ) and some others these events just would not be able to take place!! Good luck in your pursuit Irwin, I hope you get closure on this but I suspect you might be heading for disappointment!!

can I first step in and clear up any rubbish about criticism towards the judging? sorry, the judging was spot on, on every occasion I had to use it. In all tournaments someone gets something wrong. Discovering mistakes afterwards doesn't change the past.

The event ran smoothly and was GREAT - winning was an added bonus to my experience of a successful, pleasure-filled event for me - I often said so at the time to others around me. Do remember to feedback on successful things at these events to the organisers - they want to know!

People do need to take things in and enjoy these events as they are rare. People, try to realise that nerves and anguish can be confused for dissatisfaction towards the proceedings going on around you - particularly if you're not doing well. No-one looks for mistakes and inconsistencies after the event if they are doing well in tournaments - if there are points of concern these things should really be dealt with before you leave the venue full stop.

I think now that we've established that Irwin could not have made t8 we need to move on. Apology yes, for the unintentional upset. But had Irwin found himself in a t8 position he would have had a marginal case for an invite maybe.

As he did not, it's only fair that he isn't given the invite. Sorry if it sounds mean but we can't give presidence to this course of action.

Irwin I know that you want to go and that you were upset but if the scorekeeper was proven correct the result stands and you have to move on.

Of course the biggest guarantee of making t8 is by making a great deck. channel your energies there and I am sure that you'll be picking up an invite next year, with no problem.

It's not fair on any of the judges or Graeme to drag this on any further. It's best to let the matter rest - and perhaps concentrate on maybe qualifying through the grinders (if you can get there) or SE Challenge 7.

Hope some of this makes sense as i'm still recovering.

Ok, just an update, I have been in contact with PUI and the HJ on the phone and they have both been very co-operative and understanding, and I'll post if I have further news which I am allowed to post...

Thanks for your support everyone, it has been greatly appreciated.

Just to update this item to a close, I have heard back from Pokémon organised Play in the USA after they were sent a report of the happenings at this event. Based on the data supplied they have decided they have no plans to offer Irwin an invite to worlds.

I hope that is the end of it.
