Unlimited Play

I don't play unlimited at all, but I have noticed something: in all of the Card of The Day threads, people rate almost every single card 0 or 1 out of 10 for unlimited. Have there been ANY cards in the last 10 sets of so that can compete in unlimited, or are cards just straight up not as good as they used to be?

Some of the Pokemon can, but the Trainers are completely outclassed by their older cousins. (with the exception of Rare Candy, which isn't exactly "new")

" Computer Search in POP8, anybody?? "

Really? CP in POP 8?

Well, actually there are some decent cards that have been recently made:

Ts2 Devolutor (Legends Awakened)-- since it's an ATM rock you can attach to exes.

Chatot (Majestic Dawn)--- like a Cleffa with more HP, no baby flip hurts, but it's not too bad.

Basically, something needs cheap attacks with good damage, good typing, and good synergy with Power denial or Trainer denial.

Also, Cleffa >>>> Chatot. Chatot will almost always die in one hit, anyway.

Huh, and here I was thinking I was weird being about the only one doing regular Unlimited reviews for COTD...

But yeah, pretty much almost all newer cards are outclassed by their predecessors. For a (bad) example, why use Mom's Kindness over Bill? Things like TM TS-2 might be ok, as well as upgrading whatever basics and/or Stage 1s you play (+10 Weakness is better than getting mauled by x2 Weakness), but overall, not too many new cards offer any advantages over their Unlimited counterparts.

There may be times when Chatot can use its second attack and still get away with it, kind of like Murkrow's Mean look. Also there may be times when you are without energy, or would not want to play down energy if you're tight on energy and prone to energy removal, but may not be prone during the next turn.

But if Chatot played Scizor ex, it doesn't get OHKOed, niether with Scizor (Majestic Dawn) if it doesn't have energy attached. It can stall against Clefable (Jungle). Vileplume ex can't one hit it.
Lots of Stage 1s now can hit it with Wally's Training and DRE though. Lots of things can OHKO it,
but it sure helps in fighting weak decks. So if you're running Clefable, maybe a tech Chatot wouldn't be so bad as a tech. Sometimes Chatot might give more draw power than Cleffa for example- I like Chatot,
because it's not the typical oh baby 30 hp and easily split bombed and anything can snipe it for 30 once it's benched. It takes 2 hits to KO a Chatot. If they double split bomb you, they take 2 prizes....
if they KO Chatot, well... it's only one prize. So Chatot is good if your opponent wants to snipe your babies.
I mean I don't like having my opponent win by flipping heads on a Split Bomb, or sniping me when I don't have a baby active and 2 babies on the bench.

But Suicune ex can easily KO it, so can Sneasel (Neo Genesis), but there are also decks like Jolteon *
and Beedrill (Skyridge), which can also win by surprise.

-----On a less serious note-------

The way to play Chatot is with Energy Root, Snow Point Temple, and Dark Vileplume.....
