Unown g and "self damage"

I know that unown g can block most effects but we are having a small issue with him at our leauge mostly with the self damage attacks

I.E if you have ramperdos PL and use his first attack and knock out a pokemon but he has unown g on him does he still take the 40 damage from the effect of HIS attack

2 professors say that the damage would be blocked
the other 2 say that he would still receive the damage

who is right in this case

:fighting: head smash 80

if the defending pokemon would be knocked out by this attack, rampardos does 40 to itself.

The two professors that say it would be blocked are wrong for two reasons.

Damage is not blocked by Unown G.
It doesn't matter how that damage is calculated, it's still damage.
It doesn't matter if there is a condition that must be met for the damage to be done, it's still damage.
This is a very important concept.

Second, Unown G was errata'd. The text was corrected to read that it only gives protection from opponent's attacks, not from your own Pokemon's attacks.
It is critical that professors are aware of errata issued for cards. Especially for a card that is in almost every deck like Unown G is.
All errata can be found here: http://compendium.pokegym.net/compendium-lvx.html#c3
