Frequently Asked Questions
When are the Pokémon TCG State and Provincial Championships?
The Pokémon TCG SPT Championships will be held on March 8, 15, and 22, 2014. Find event dates, times, and locations.
Are there any requirements for attendance?
The Pokémon TCG SPT Championships do not require an invitation or qualification of any kind. All players in good standing are welcome to participate.
What is the tournament structure?
The Pokémon TCG SPT Championships are run using the Standard Format (formerly Modified) and Age-Modified Swiss pairings. At the conclusion of Swiss, the top players will compete in Single-Elimination rounds, with a maximum of 8 participants. See the Pokémon Tournament Rules for detailed information about the tournament structure.
The number of Swiss rounds run will depend on total attendance at the event. Each round of Swiss in the Masters Division is best of three, with a time limit of 50 minutes plus 3 turns. Tournament Organizers have the option to run the Junior and Senior Division Swiss rounds either as a best-of-three match or as a single-game match with a maximum time limit of 30 minutes plus 3 turns. Check tournament listings for specific details regarding the Tournament Organizer’s selected format.
Most Pokémon TCG SPT Championships will be single-day events. A few larger SPT Championships may be run in a two-day format, with a second set of Swiss rounds for qualifying players and the Single-Elimination portion of the event occurring on Sunday. Please check with the Tournament Organizer for the specifics of each event.

Beginning in the 2014 season, North American National Championships Travel Awards and Travel Stipends will be awarded to the top TCG performers in the season’s Championship Points rankings.
To view the award schedule for Travel Awards and Stipends, click here.
* Byes are awarded to the winning Canadian or United States player and are awarded at the National Championships corresponding to the player’s nationality. A Canadian player is therefore eligible to win a bye at the Canadian National Championships from an event hosted in the United States, and vice versa.
Byes do not “stack.” If you have won a bye in another event, either a different SPT Championships event or a Regional Championships, you will receive the largest bye you have earned. You will not receive the sum of all the byes you earn.
