Upgrading My Computer

I know that, in order to make better YouTube and Streaming videos for the players, I need to update my computer and general recording practices. Right now, I'm just going to start with the computer. With any luck, I'll have all of this ready for St. Louis Regionals in the Winter (mostly b/c I'm not flying out of Minneapolis to any of the Fall Regional locations). Oh. Before I forget. I want this one laptop computer to be my media center for as long as possible. This means multiple HD streams, basic video editing, the kinds of things that you'd expect a reasonably professional YouTube channel to utilize.

I'm looking for some advice as far as some of the hardware I'm looking for in a new laptop computer for this project.

Here's what I know about the system that I need to build...

1) A decent processor. I'm trying to decide whether a 3rd gen i5 is sufficient for my purposes, or if I need a 3rd gen i7. I'm basing a lot of this on an article I saw on CNN showing how the various processors ran high-end PC games. It seems like a higher end i5 would be sufficient, but I don't know how that processor will handle multiple HD streams.

2) Top-end RAM. The question here is whether I get it pre-installed, or if I purchase my own (off Crucial or something like that) and insert it myself. I'm not sure if I need more than 8GB. More than that is seriously expensive, and I'm not sure if the benefit is worth the cost.

3) Graphics card. The standard Intel card is woefully insufficient for video streaming. I've heard some nasty things about AMD graphics cards in laptops, so I'm leaning towards an nVidia card, and probably a 2GB card. But is that overkill? Or is the 1GB sufficient?

4) Hard Drive. I'm almost certain I need a 7200RPM spinning hard drive plus a solid state cache drive. I'm not too concerned with space, as just about anything on the market these days has more than enough space for hours upon hours of 1080p video and audio.

5) Network Adapter. This is the part I'm most concerned about. I have no idea what I'm looking at with these. But I know I'll need something Gigabit, and I know it'll need to be high end. As far as the streaming's concerned, this will be my bottleneck as far as my own system is concerned (I know that the speed of the network itself will ultimately be the biggest bottleneck, but I'm not too worried about that ATM).

I think I've narrowed my commercial custom pre-made laptops down to 3 models: Alienware M14x, Lenovo Thinkpad T430s, and the HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 Quad Edition. But I don't know what other manufacturers exist for what I'm looking for. I've tried Toshiba, but I'm not sure if their customizable laptops are comparable to those of the other manufacturers. And I also don't want to build my own laptop, that's all kinds of complex and far more time that I actually have to build.

Thanks for any help you guys can give, or any places you might now about for some additional information!

I'd prefer to be able to customize every aspect of the computer. And I'm not a fan of that 2 grand price tag. The GE70 0NC-003US is more the price I'm hoping for. I'm hoping the prices drop at some point after Christmas...

head over to overclock.net

ive been there since '07. best place for anything custom pc, and they have a decent laptop forum as well. good luck

Also passmark.com is a good place to find benchmarks for hardware (video cards, processors, and the like). I used it when searching for my laptop to get objective ratings of the internal components. Just compare the rating of one video card (or whatever) to another. Really easy to use.
