Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

US Nationals Moved...

WHAT THE ugggggg. HOLY geez ohh this mmmmm My whole summer is BUILT around ORIGINS!!! Without the main event on Saturday my summer there is RUINED! I don't even know if im gonna got to nats this year of they put it there. This blows big time and i don't know if your gonna kill your gamers attendance by doing this. I hope i win my way there because if i don't i don't think ill go due to ORIGINS is sooooo much more fun and sooooo much more appealing.

Lets thank POP for ANOTHERRRRRR BADDDDDD DECISION!!!!!!

For us and many other people it doesn't save any money. Instead of spending maybe $150 on gas for the whole trip, we'd now have to pay at least $244 per plane ticket.

boo-hoo!

Seriously, so many people couldn't go to Nats because it was too far away. St. Louis isn't the most central part of the nation, that goes to Kansas, but whats the odds of actually having a tournament?....ZOMG....TORNADO!!!!!!!
yeah...

I am biased too because I am from Missouri so Bow-chica-wow-wow!

If any of you haven't been to a "vince" tournament, then you will realize you will have loads of fun for a MUCH cheaper price than some silly origins full of BO, freakish peeps, messed up sound systems due to the other games, and ungodly amount the food costs.

Oh MY GOODNESS!

WOOT CHAW and all of those other phrases!

If the event is, um, free, we will be breaking EVERY attendance record out there!

I can give anyone/everyone the skinny on less expensive hotels, great ideas on what to do, and everything else.

Trust me, this move ROCKS!

Take the $80 you were going to spend on badges, per kid, and have a couple of really nice meals, buy a box of cards from your local league store, pay for your hotel!!!

WOW!

Vince

I just blasted POP hard for this but after reading all 7 pages and hearing Vince i agree on this
For the price of a badge you can pay for a hotel and in the end have a little less spending to play pokemon for 3 days. In the end,yes it hurts but it seems like change may be good and yes it will break all attendance records because your taking away 60 per badge and giving a free event. I guess next stop is St Louis. See ya all there in late June win or lose and goodbye Origins. Ill miss you :frown:

Well as said above Origins brought this on themselves by running their event into the ground the last few years that is why now almost all of their major backers (Magic, Pokemon, and etc) are now backing out. The event has not been run the way it should be.

I personally am excitied to see Pokemon as a stand alone event at such a large venue as America's Center and what all they may have to offer.

I am biased I am from St. Louis and now live only little more than an hour away so this will save me tons of time and money (still family there to stay with). However logically thinking St. Louis is a great choice. Geographically speaking it is more centered in the country and is really close to the U.S. Population Center (which is Edgar Springs MO for those interested). St. Louis is a great city that has always had a HUGE base of Gamers from Pokemon to Magic to Mini Games. We have big attendance at our Regionals States and even most of our BR events had 40+ players per event. It is about time the area got rewarded for its loyalty.

Its not a real arguement to say I dont know if I will go now cause it is a little farther because for everyone that it moves away from it moves closer to someone else so Go dont Go the event will be huge and will be great (my family with 5 of us drove to Ohio for it, so others can drive as well if they really want to play). There are tons of stores that offer other games for you people that like to play them sure some of us more local people could give you info on them....and just wait it may not be Origins or Gencon but little info is now offered maybe we find out this because a huge convention only time will tell.

Wherever it is in the US, i will go to it. Either way, it is roughly the same price to go to Ohio as it is Missouri from where i live. No one really has no legit reason to be complaining, and for players in Ohio, thats just tough luck. I was a bit sick of Origins, and St. Louis is, IMO, just more exciting.

As mentioned a few times before we are plaing Pokemon people not every TCG, RPG or anything else like that. Sure it was fun to go and check out the other stuff in Origins but who says St. Louis and OP can't do a good job at keeping us entertained for the second biggest weekend in Pokemon of the year. Give it time guys, I will too. Who knows I might switch sides on this depending on what else is announced.

If I can continue filling up my tank for $20....I'll be able to make it. Let's hop gas stays low! Gas savers ftw -.-. Origins was only 2 and a half hours away from me too :(.

Here's one thing to consider...

PUI CANNOT let this event be a failure.

How do you define failure? Is it fewer attendees than last year? I think that would be accurate.

PUI will do whatever it takes to make sure that attendance is kept high. So it SHOULD be a great event.

With that being said, I just booked my flight to Columbus. LOL

attendance wont be lower than last year. the only people they will be losing are the gamers whose loyalties arent with pokemon, and those people who used to be able to drive to nationals but now are too poor to fly there. they will gain people from the midwest who can drive there now and any 6 year olds that were scared of the weirdos.

I am really excited, personally. It will be awesome to travel somewhere new! For most people, Nats is a big trip anyway. Columbus, St. Louis...why can't we all just be happy that we have events like this to look forward to?

OMG!!!! How AWESOME IS THIS?!?!?!?! This is the BEST news Ive heard YET from PUI, POP, Pokemon, & whoever else is involved...lol

For all you who have ill feelings about it...
Go jump off the ARCH!! :nonono: HAHAHA Just kidding!!

Listen guys & gals, we cant always have what we want, such is life. But what you CAN have in this deal is that St. Louis has sooooo much more to offer for families who decide to make Nationals their Summer Family Vaction! Sure it means that a few are left out here & there, but it also opens up for ones who never made it to possibly come in! Its all about CHANGE PEOPLE, CHANGE!! CHANGE IS GOOD & CHANGE HAPPENS FOR A REASON!! Reasons that may be unknown to us which is ok! So we DONT have to know why they do what they do, we just have to know that their are ways to voice our likes & dislikes at every oppertunity possible.
Being a St. Louisian myself means thats less travel for me sure, but MORE oppertunity for me to show off this GREAT SHOW ME STATE to my fellow players!! Once your here & see what St.Louis has to offer, you'll be pleased with the new place! Im sure many of you do enjoy the Gaming Convention just as my kids did, but...this OPENS up the playing field for MANY MANY other activities for everyone! This means that more families will partake in FAMILY travel time, theres more for the parents to do & go see while their Pokemon lover is off having 1 of the GREATEST times in his/her life, something they wait all year long for! This just really brings Pokemon to a whole new level & I think you all should at least be THANKFULL that PUI is putting you all somewhere that everyone can enjoy! Being a wife/mom to 4 players, we LOVE to travel, but to NEW places! I hate going back to the same place every year! This gives us a chance to not only spend family time together, but it also opens the doors for our travel experience, new sights, new everything!
So I will say...Look up St. Louis, see what all it has to offer, check out the Center, just look around St. Louis before you start MOANING & GROANING! Sure Im upsizing the place, but not because I live here & this just means 1 less major trip for us, but it does mean that I just get to expand our traveling options for Regionals this coming year! So Im THRILLED about that!
I will leave you all with some websites...take a minute to give St. Louis a try online 1st! Then AFTER the event come back & moan! But remember...Give it a chance 1st! :thumb:

I think this is awsome! I always hated Origins and I love when pokemon organizes events in hotels because its just pokemon and not all people dressed up at a convention with costumes or like tons of other tcgs included with pikachu. With pokemon doing this move their saving money on badges and easier probably cheaper hotel space.

Last year pokemon gave out probably over 90 badges for free which cost em over like 5 g's. Not including their space they bought and other stuff. MO is like almost the middle of the US so it shouldnt mess with attendance. Hotels should be easier to get this year and it should be cheaper then ever without origins.

G-Note

This is awesome. I'm really excited. St. Louis Regionals had the biggest growth last year, the third highest attendance overall (Texas and Oregon were 1 and 2, and it's closer to them too), and more players are being added all the time. This is gonna be great for the game, I'm sure we'll have bigger attendance than last year's nats. Plus, St. Louis is such a better city than Columbus, great stuff.

It seems like no matter what decision PUI makes people just turn on them. This is so pathetic. Why don't you guys just shut up and stop being so self-centered? Oh god, you have to drive farther. BOO HOO.

I drove from FLORIDA to OHIO last year to get to Origins. DO NOT complain about your trivial little 4 hour ride to an event. My closest event is a CC/BR 2.5 hours away, with the closest premiere event at 5 hours away.

This will be GOOD for the game. If pokemon has the strength and backing to become an independent event, then that means there is more money for nationals- either because we're not just shelling it out to origins, and because we brought them close to a thousand people to each give them 50+ dollars. That's a lot of money.

Do you guys just think they're going to run some horrible event? You guys have gone to worlds before, where it's JUST a pokemon event, and those are always fun. Why would nationals be any different?

Sour grapes is all I'm reading.

Great move. I support this 100%.

I thought Worlds was THE event?

Most important response first: U.S. Nats is THE event for the U.S.

Nats is an OPEN competition.
Worlds is INVITE with a grinder and side events.

Nats comes from the heritage of STS & is controlled solely by PUSA.
Worlds comes from the heritage of Tropical Mega Battle and TPC has the control.

Will Worlds always be in the U.S.? I don't think so.

U.S. NATs is the BIG event for USians.
Worlds is the PINNACLE - how many people can climb to the pinnacle & how many could you fit on the pinnacle if they could get there?

I have faith in those who make the decisions for Pokemon- they have done us right so far. I'm sure there are reasons for this change and I'm also sure we will never know them. And that is just fine w/me.

Quoted to show off our partial mind meld here.

Ready for an emotional response? Calling this another bad decision is a thoughtless response. You haven't SEEN bad decisions of the magnitude or quantity from POP that we had from Wizards.

I'm a big fan of SCOREBOARD over MOUTH. By that measure:

"growing & fun & tons of prizes" beats "few events & no 15+ & almost killed" yet again.

they will gain people from the midwest who can drive there now and any 6 year olds that were scared of the weirdos.

 I always thought that the PKMN folks were the best looking, coolest dressed and least stinky group at Origins, but scary weirdos frightening 6 year olds:confused:

Still, we won't have room monitors in Imperial Officer cosplay interrupting tournament matches by trying to interrogate the kids...

lol that 80$ isnt going for badges now.. its going to my airfare =/
gosh..

After a good nights sleep, I'm a little more acceptant of it. It is sour grapes, you're right, and it is annoying, but it really probably won't be changing my plans. Of course, now I can't make a trip to grind to worlds because my gas money is going here.

DO NOT complain about your trivial little 8 hour ride to an event.

Fixed, if it was 4, I definitely wouldn't be complaining. I have a pretty high level of relative distance.
