Venusaur CG + DRE

I have a Venusaur active , a DRE attached, and attack with Toxic sleep. Does the DRE reduce the posion to 1 damage counter between turns?

DRE only reduces damage dealt. It has no effect on other things like putting damage counters on a Pokemon, or other effects that are generated (such as Skarmory ex's anti-retreat, or Special Conditions).
