VGC and TCG

Is it a good Idea to go for both VGC and TCG? I want to do both, because I love both the game and TCG. I am ready for both of em. Help?

Well...

VGC is much easier to get into imo, because of the large playerbase on websites, and the fact that you can get personal tutors easier coughme.

Shoddy Battle/Pokemon Online is the good "lazy" way of playing the VG tho.

Depends how dedicated you are to either. Last year I went to the Regional VGC after having practiced a decent amount got 5th place, and qualified for the National VGC tournament, however, the TCG Nationals was the day before so I figured I might as well play in that. I then went 7-0 in the TCG tournament and I really could not justify dropping a tournament I was X-0 in especially Nationals to play in the VGC so I did not get the opportunity to play in the VGC Nationals. And to the above poster it may be "easier" to get started in, don't expect to win if you don't put a lot of time in or can figure out the counter to multiple powerful teams, because the top notch VGC players are really really good (keep in mind I'm not saying it's easy to do well in the TCG either :D).

I can do both pretty easily but really im more of a VGC player, I stop playing TCG for the year after Regionals and Spring battle roads. But it is possible to do both. When it gets time for nationals, though, you have to make a choice, like metalbird. I've even seen some people qualify for VG and TCG worlds, so it's possible if you can juggle both.

I play both too, qualified for both VGC/TCG Worlds in '08.

I really enjoy playing both, but I like VGC a lot more just because the format for TCG right now is pretty much a joke. Of course it's a good idea to do both, if you enjoy doing both! You should definitely go to a VGC Regionals if you don't live too far away from one, because if you have a consistent team and you know what you're doing, chances are that you'll do well and even qualify for Nationals.

so... I really don't know anything about VGC tournaments. I might want to get into them. My biggest question: can you only use pokemon from the latest games (B&W), or can pokemon from Red, Blue, Green,(insert everything from Yellow to Platinum), Heartgold, and Soulsilver that have been transferred be used also?

In the current VCG championship, the format is as follows:

Double Battles
4vs4
Unova Pokemon Only
Victiny, Zekrom, Reshiram, Keldeo, Meloetta and Genesect are banned

Every year they have a different format.
