The Speed Gamers, a group of video game enthusiasts who play for marathon hours to raise money for charities, have announced they will attempt to capture every Pokémon available in North America during 72 straight hours beginning 5 p.m. CST Dec. 19. The gamers will donate proceeds raised during the fundraiser to ACT Today, a nonprofit supporter of people affected by autism.

There are 491 Pokémon currently available in North America, beginning with Bulbasaur and ending with Darkrai. To reach the goal, the gamers said they will begin new files of Pokémon FireRed, LeafGreen, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Diamond, Pearl, XD: Gale of Darkness, Colosseum and its bonus discs, Pokémon Ranger and My Pokémon Ranch. The Pokémon then will be transferred to a single game cartridge to complete the National Dex.

During the marathon, the group's blog will host a live Web cast of two games being played at a time. The blog will also host a checklist of how many Pokémon the gamers have caught.

This marks our 8th marathon; 4th for charity. We've raised approximately $10,000.

We are giving away a pokemon edition nintendo 64, pokemon edition Gameboy color, and also the cartridge we transfer all the pokemon to. All you have to do is watch and you'll have a chance to win.

Thanks guys!

Put this on the front page to give it more publicity. This is a great cause and a great way to put what you love to a great use.

That feat for the heck of it: Insanity, and a waste of time.
For charity: Awesome, Epic, Inspiring, need I continue?
Best of luck guys!!!!:thumb::pokeball:

so is there a way to get mew, out side a special event?
if not then ...oh well... not to mention... how hard will it be to get the legenday dogs... those things are very
hard to catch!

I know you can get Mew by uploading 999 Pokemon to My Pokemon Ranch. Though you have to expand the ranch over a number of days... hmmm...

Uh...how can they get Darkrai? Unless they have Platinum, Darkrai's only been released through TRU here I thought?

Assuming they're playing US versions, they could get a Mew through Ranch, but they would have to play for 7 days. A Celebi isn't going to come to them at all. They won't be able to get a Deoxys. Darkrai currently isn't up for the US Ranger 2 yet, so they won't be getting that. So much for 491 without cheating/transfering from a different game.

actualy celebi was given on the Japanese Pokemon coloseum bonus disk. also, for my pokemon ranch, all you have to do is forward the wii's calender a day.you can get mew in as little as 30 minutes this way.

Thanks guys for all the positive feedback. I'm definitely gonna give your forums a shoutout during our marathon. Hopefully I'll see some of you there.

Mew we are getting through ranch, celebi from the japanese colloseum bonus disc, and we've got a ticket for Deoxys .
Don't worry bout all that though, this has been in the works for months, and all 491 are accounted for. Its going to be extremely hard, but we think we can do it.

if you have any questions feel free to fire off an email or in this thread.

If you already have the ticket for Deoxys in your FR/LG then how will it be in a "new file"? Since the ticket was last given out years ago, that would mean that the file would have to years old, wouldn't it?
Good luck anyway.:thumb:

Just a question:

You can only use Pal park every 24 hours, can't you? You can't just change the Calendar with the DS. Are you just going to like 20 DS and trade them DS to DS to the one game Cartridge?

There's a way to trick the system for the Pal Park... you get two GBA cartriges, use one to reset the clock, and the other to transfer.

wow, this seems really cool. yet it is going to be extremely tought getting all 491 in just 3 days.

For Deoxys we are going to have to transfer to a separate a cart before we start. We are using the pal park trick to trade more than 6 pokemon a day.
