GENERAL INFORMATION

Cost - $30

Special promotional items: Players will receive a special Prerelease card and another premium item, while supplies last.

Tournament Structures:
Each player receives 6 booster packs (provided) from which they build a 40 card deck. We then play several rounds of Age Modified Swiss (all players play in every round) Basic energy is provided. All cards, except the energy are yours to keep. Please return the basic energies you borrow.

PRIZES: All Players get 2 additional boosters at the completion of the tournament!!!

SIDE EVENTS: Side events will be announced at each location. Booster drafts, if offered will cost $25 for 6 packs.

Yes, it is really $30. Unfortunately, inflation happens. Do you remember back when you could buy a booster pack of Gym Heroes for $2.50 per pack? I do.

We last raised prices in May of 2007 with the release of Diamond and Pearl. We put it off as long as we could, but our goal is to provide a fun tournament and opportunity to play with cards before they officially go on sale.
 
Yes inflation......but these events are designed to be fun and provide an opportunity to play with the new cards and meet friends.....
 
Thank you both for explaining why. This is absolutely helpful to be informed about! It is too bad that the cost have risen, but I understand. I was hoping that we would be receiving additional product, whether that would be sleeves or extra pack or 2. I miss the days when we only paid $20 and had the chance to win a box for first place. Though it made prereleases very competive, I liked how people actually try to build as good of a deck as you can rather than just throwing random stuff together.

The tail end was bad, but Play Pokemon! was aware and concerned about the same things. If sleeves do come back, they will most certainly be of better quality.
 
That'd be great. I figured the combined quality issues and budget shrinking of P!P resulted in them switching to deckboxes instead of sleeves - something that was very useful, but easier to manufacture without sacrificing quality.

I wouldn't mind seeing the return of sleeves for an extra $5... especially if they were higher quality. :thumb:

Regardless, looking forward to this! I was thinking I might attend two, but now that I've had to add up the cost I've been reconsidering... $60 plus $40 more for drafts?? so much money...
 
$30 is a bit of a ripoff, and the afterdraft is pointless now. The least they could have done is brought back the sleeves for that extra money. I expect a slightly smaller turnout at these now.
 
No the game has gotten so big now that there will be plenty of people attending the drafts. Everything is going up in price now. It is not unreasonable that Prereleases are as well.

How is $30 for 8 packs which MSRP for 3.99, a deck box and a promo a rip off?

If a 5 dollar bump is going to break you than you have no reason to playing the game. Your priorities should be else where.
