Riley had a great time at Lacey yesterday, his first 'cash'! (Yes I'm a poker player) Thanks to the tourney organizers.

I am a bit disappointed though that someone thought it would be a good idea to trade him a MewTwo-EX Promo for a Computer Search and a Skyla and a Stoutland that he had just opened.

We are still fairly new and he's only 6 and was super excited about winning some free packs. That seems like a cruddy trade to take advantage of a kid to me, am I wrong? I was still playing in Masters when it happened so I didn't see it.

I tried to have my son stop him as he knows a bit more about values and such, but the other person he said was very persistent on the trade. As my son doesnt like confrontation he just kinda backed away.

thanks R3. We have had several talks about trading when I'm not watching, but yes the impulse takes over. Riley learned a lesson (I hope). Until now he has tried to do deals just for the sake of doing deals.

Yea, my son phillip (the last kid your son beat to go 3-1), ran to me while i was playing saying he was going to trade for your sons computer search, I told my son to wait and I guess yea, impulse trading took over. It happens, but I do hate the older kids/adults who take advantage of the younger ones who dont know too much about values.

Wish judges would get involved more, but they are too busy i guess with watching the matches.

why do you book locations with a cap of 40 people and is there pre registration for that

Because we have a relationship with this store and they have been very nice to us in the past. Space has never been an issue before because we either held it on the same day as another tourney in western Washington or we had it midweek during Christmas break. Unfortuntly neither was an option this year so we are doing the best that we can. I did not want to have to cap it but I can only get so many players in the store so I set a number that will guarentee a seat at the tourney first come first serve.

Is there Pre-registration? Will there be someone there early to take down names in order, or do we have to just stand in line until the store opens? It's starting to get quite cold.

thats dumb denying that many players a seat in a tourny washington shouldve planned it out better or found a new venue

Oh please.

Unlike a good portion of the country, you guys are fortunate enough to have venues to play in without caps like this on a regular basis, or at least they're quite uncomfortable when numbers get much higher than 40-50...

Stop whining. You guys in OR/WA are the lucky ones in the grand scheme of things.

Lacey City Championship:

Juniors: 13 players, Winner Jack W.
Seniors: 10 players, Winner Sam H.
Masters: 48 players, Winner Tyler N.

Thanks everyone for coming.

We also have a huge player base. When we have caps, people will get turned away. Even if the caps are 60-70. We regularly have 80-90 people attend cities. This is abnormal, and due to the abnormally high WA turnout, it makes sense to pick larger venues. The fact is that we have many larger venues to choose from, and should be using. Then again, we have great TOs, and I suspect this was fairly unavoidable.

Like I stated before, I am really just hoping that there will be a system in place to take down names without players having to wait a substantial amount of time in the cold weather!

Well that is true about South Puget Sound events they are larger then the North end. Marysville had about 70 but that was counting around 15 Canadians. Mukilteo on a day were there was a CC in Canada there were just above 50.

It is my hope that with Lynnwood being so close to the Christmas holiday that a lot of people will be in the midst of their travel plans so fingers crossed we wont have to turn people away. This is the first time in 4 years that we have put a Cap on attendance and the first one was because it was our very first time using that store and the owner did not know what to expect. But there is only so much physical space and we felt it best to state a cap so people know what to expect if our numbers exceed capacity.

That all makes sense. I appreciate the response. Any word on taking down names pre-tourney? If not, I understand. It would be quite the hassle. Either way, looking forward to the tournament : ).

In fairness I am not taking any pre-registratons (with the obvious exception of my daughter) it will be first come first entered. I will have a list to sign up on. It is my hope to not have to turn anyone away but the store can only seat so many players.

By "Pre-tourney" I mean at the event, before 11:00. And I'm actually kind of looking forward to a shorter tourney.
