So i'm at League tonight and there's a copy of ICv2 Guide at the store. Issue # 64 June 2009. On the ICv2 Best Sellers list:

  3. World of Warcraft
  4. Bleach (Viz Media)
  5. Pokémon
  6. Legends of the Five Rings
  7. Epic
  8. UFS
  9. Call of Cthulu
  10. Bleach (Score)
Top Five Mass CCGs

  5. Chaotic

Top Five CCGs Over-All
  1. Bakugan
  2. Pokémon
  3. 3 Yu Gi O!
  4. Magic: The Gathering
  5. World of Warcraft

Kind of  about Bakugan......

Um... how are we possibly behind Bakugan in anything? Bakugan is a dollar store staple that can hardly even be called a CCG. Doesn't it have figures and little metal balls? And Bleach? A TCG based on an action anime? Ugh...

There was a huge craze at Christmas time for them. I've seen the product sitting on shelves at Walmart except for last night - the self was pretty barren (probably due to Easter - put a Bakugan into an egg for the hunt).

Thanks for the info! Does anyone know what the difference is between 'Top 25 Hobby Channel CCGs' and 'Top Five Mass CCGs'?

And what the heck is Bakugan? *runs off to check*

EDIT: Eeew... Bakugan is either a lot of fun or just really really simple. I guess both, given its success...

The Bleach TCG was probably the best TCG I have ever played next to Pokemon and perhaps better then it to a certain degree, alas it was canceled due to SEVEN being bought out.

But it's nice to see some nice things about Pokemon.

Bakugan...please tell me you're kidding?

Also, I've never heard of ICv2, so I was wondering regarding their statistics:

What sources are they using? Is this their opinion, or what? I mean, I seriously find it hard to see how CCGs like Bleach or World of Warcraft can be beating Pokemon tbh...especially something as crap as Bakugan.

ya bakugan is completly dead in az and so is bleach all to gether lol and im serious and to me these are the top games i see out here getting played

1. magic they have huge prize support and fans that have sticked to the game for many years
2.pokemon not tryin to put down poke in numba 2 than numba 1 but we do have alot of players just not that many than magic
3. yugioh alot of players has quit or have gone to a new tcg lol
4.ufs and theres where all the yugi players went lol seriously 80 % of the local card shop yugi players are now ufs lol

wow, bakugan is at the top. that's weird. o ya, brian, tell matt i got some bakugan stuff to give him next week (wondering how i got it, i know a guy...naw, just kidding w/ u, my dad got all this stuff when KB toys shut down.)

To tell from experience i work for a retailer that sells bakugan and it FLIES out the door so im not shocked were #2 behind it. I am glad we finally made #2 and are showing this game wont fall :)

You guys do realise the Pokémon has frequently topped the ICv2 list in the last year or so?

Of course the latest fad is going to do well for a while. The real test is for a game to continue being popular for a long time. Pokémon has proved it's got what it takes.

Is there any OP for Bakugan?

There's a bit, yeah. Nothing really consistant though, mainly just isolated events hosted at Toys R Us every now and then, a lot like what Hasbro used to do for toys like Battle B-Daman.

And yeah, I don't agree with Bakugan being labeled as a CCG. It has cards in it, yes, but it's more of a figure game if anything, and even that is a stretch. It's not fair to rank it with card games.

I have to admit though, I've been playing around with the Bakugan for a few months now, and while the game doesn't have a lot of depth it can be mildly interesting. The magnetism and rolling onto the cards is rather enjoyable. And I think a lot of the figures just look pretty cool.

Also, I'd also like to add that BJJ's list is somewhat incorrect. ICv2 stated on their website that there were errors with the list printed in the magazine. The correct listing is as follows:

Bukugan... Bakugan Isn't even based of the cards! My little bro plays it, and, if your opponent dosen't use any, you could win without any cards!(except for the hard cards) Besides, Bakugan doesn't have any op or major tournaments, right?:confused:

Bleach deserves the spot... the only TCG I've played that's been more fun is the Megaman Battle Network one... now THAT was a fun game.

I agree, I found it was my 3rd favorite TCG since Duel Masters, pokemon comes in 2nd.

Wait so ur telling me that Bakumon bests pokemon, you kidding me. I don't believes it is even around still.

ICV.2 is short for internal corrspondence version 2, kind of a card and comic industry trade mag and info source. When I was a retailer I used them fairly frequently to keep up with news, hear about new anime products, etc. They are pretty reliable source wise, and if I remember correctly they get most of their data from distributor sales. They publish some pretty good how to stuff for small retailers to help them get a handle on a very volatile industry. That being said, if they are based on distributor salews that doesn't reflect in-store sales, which could move Bakugan up or down.

Bernie who used to be a book buyer

their website is pretty nice- well organized

I'm more surprised that Dragon Ball and Naruto are left off of these lists, more than where Bakugan is, etc.

Thanks for posting.
