Perhaps I missed it but I fail to find anything about "how the rankings are going to be used".
Or in other words will there be ranking invites?
Will there be invites for Nationals and how many.
 
i was waiting for someone to ask this. yes there will be ranking invites, but its a mystery as to how many. i think the bad economy is the reason they didnt announce the number of invites yet; theyre waiting to see how many they can afford

Only players who receive invitations via their National Championships, Premier Rating, or performance at the 2008 World Championships are permitted to play in this event.

prof clay once posted that the invites would be the same number as last year. i dont know if that was a slipup or a mistake.

Yeah the whole economy thing is really too bad.

But even if the worst happens they can give out non-paid invitations.

I wish the would announce the number. I like the 128 player cap we had last year. I think that is a great number to stick with each year rather than having a different number every year.

As for the economy being a factor, I want to slightly disagree. Some cost will go up, but I think sales will still be strong because this takes people thoughts off the economy because they want to have fun. I think that while it make affect it, I am pretty sure they are just busy and haven't had time to finalize or formally post what exactly will happen. I would like if it was released sooner rather than later.

I agree with what Drew said.Sooner rather than later would be nice. But it doesn't really matter
when you think about it. You still must perform to make it to the show.

Lia, there will ALWAYS be invites given out at Nationals IMHO.

And have any of you ever thought that the big 3 are more concerned with getting through pre's
and getting city dates etched in stone then a tournament that is 10 months away???

Just a thought......
 
Well it was more we were talking about it and realized there was nothing announced about it.
So how important was getting up in that ranking? It wasn't LOL.
 
John, I can see Lia's point, that it would be nice for the players to know the expectations and rewards for this year.

I believe those were released at the beginning of last year (or at least before cities).

This year, we will hopefully see the announcment before cities.

It does matter to some people, as it will affect their travel if there are trips or invites on the line for rankings.

No official word, so we will have to wait and see. (Note, if there was an official word, I missed it!)
