Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

What cards can work with Dark Steelix?

I entered Pokemon TCG just too late to get to play the last good Steelix (Neo Genesis). I believe it was often played with Dark Blastoise (which could even harness the effect of Metal Energy back then), and Southern Islands Onix, which is in fact is a very good basic pokemon.

Now the Dark Steelix in TRR has caught my eye. I believe it might just be an acceptable attacker. It is just above the 100 mark, which is good for a Stage 1, it can make use of both Darkness & Metal Energy for increased attack/defense, and it can fetch any energy from discard pile. Fire weakness & heavy retreat cost hurts though...

Any good suggestions for trainers and pokemon that could work with Dark Steelix?

-Dark Metal Energy
-Darkness Energy
-Metal Energy
-R Energy
-Multi Energy
-Dark Dragonite
-Dark Electrode
-Metagross

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Thanks pm! Why Multi Energy? It will become colorless most of the time b/c of the other special Energies on D Steelix.

Anyone got any other suggestions??

If you make a deck based around it your gonna need some Rocket's Missions and TV Reporters to get those Special Energies in the discard pile. Then you use Dark Steelix's attack to get them back and attach them to him. Darkness will help him do more Damage and Metal will help reduce the Damage to him. Metagross can benefit from this as well, you get a Metal from the discard pile...then just move it with Metal Juncture. But Powering up Steelix with 4 Darkness, 4 Metal and 1 Fighting would make it pretty hard to take down. :)

Thanks, some really good advice there! I'm thinking about swarming with Mantines also, both for a litte "bite-back" at fire pokemon, but mainly for the damage reduction effect. With 3 Mantines in play, and 2-4 metal on Dark Steelix he will be untouchable for a lot of decks. But of course this depends on the type of deck... I'm fully aware. Nevertheless, I'm very tempted to try it out.

Kingdra is good as it protects Steelix from the comenly played fire type. And have Rocket's Hideout out ups his HP to 130 with Metal on that's technacle 170HP.And attach the Darkness energy your hitting 100 a turn for 5 energy or 90 a turn with 4 energy that's pretty good.

Pidgeot is always an option, searching for just the right energy when you need it. But yeah, you need a water guy to go with Dark Steelix. Kingdra is a great idea.

I'm trying it with TV Reporter and a couple Rocket ex's (in addition to the standard 4 R, 4 Dark, 4 Metal). It can work, but it's just a little bit slow for the current format...

Of course Kingdra is a good option that could fit with Dark Steelix. But until now, at least, the way I have pictured this deck is with 4 Dunsparce, 4 Onix, 4 Dark Steelix and 3-4 Mantine. Keeping the count of pokemon low will allow me to add more disruption cards, like Pokemon Reversal and ATM Rock. And 3 Ancient Tombs to get rid of fire weakness (That's great with Dark Steelix, cos it does't have an owner in it's name like all Aqua, Magma & Rocket's pokemon, and it isn't an ex). I'm also thinking Rocket's Pokeball and Pokemon Retriever, since I could use some more Dark Steelix late game when a few of them are knocked out.

Well if you play Kingdra instead of playing Ancient Tomb you can play Rocket's Hideout to make his HP170.(Techanacle sue to Metal Energy.)Wich is cool and if somehow Dark Steelix can't fight Blaziken with Kingdra on the bench bring up Kingdra for the kill. And in 2 shots Kingdra can OHKO RayEX.Though if not needed to attack the better.

Lol, Yeah it's cool how Dark Steelix can both atk and def boostings. It's also weird that you can get OHKO'd by someone who does 170 damage, but someone doing 50 will take 13 turns to ko you.

As I said Kingdra is definately one to consider. I was just thinking "card economy", and since using Kingdra would mean I play at least a 2-2-2 line, which is 6 cards, vs Ancient Tomb which could be 3. Besides w/o Kingdra I would have one more space to fill with a Mantine.

Post it in the deck forum to get fixes if you need. Since it is in another format than the one I'm thinking of I cannot use very much of the cards you've chosen. Though I proley would if they were modified legal.

thx, posted it in deck help

btw. i live in Croatia and unlimited is the main format here

Is there any card in the current modified that is like Furret in the old Format where it has a Poke-Power that can search for ANY energy. That's what this deck really needs. I know Pidgeot can, but it's a stage 2.
