I was away from the TCG for a while and I missed out and Platinum and Rising Rivals, so can anyone tell me the staple cards and combos from these two sets?

Just look at the sets in the Researching tower, and if it looks broken, it's probably a staple.

The main decks right now are gengar SF with Nidoqueen RR called mother gengar, and infernape 4 and luxray GL called Luxape

As you can tell, SP Pokemon were released with Platinum, and even more with Rising Rivals.

Let's just say...the format substantially changed...

Shaymin(and it's X), Ampharos, and Flint's are most certainly not staples. Other then that go with waynegg's list but with the addition of Nidoqueen RR. It's essential in a couple of decks and good in others.
