When me and my mom first heard baby by justin beiber she pulled over called my brother and asked him if he was a boy or girl

Haha that's weird I wasn't aware Justin Bieber was an "artist". I thought you had to create art to be one of those?

I've had several first reactions to artists, I will use the one that I felt was most important in my musical development.

The first time I listened to Metallica's "Master of Puppets", I was completely blown away. The intense ferocity of the guitars in the intro, verse, and choruses, the beautiful melodic breakdown in the middle half of the song, and the epic conclusion of the themes including one of the greatest guitar solos of all time. The first time I listened to Metallica, my mind was blown. I was into Pop music before that, after that day I have never listened to a word of Pop ever again. Metallica opened my eyes and showed me what music really is.

Still has nothing on Beethoven.

I will agree on that. Beethoven is a genius! He didn't get me into playing guitar like Metallica did, but for sure I appreciate his music. In particular, I find the fifth symphony absolutely amazing. I actually think musically speaking, classical and metal are pretty similar. One just has a bunch of electricity in its instruments to make it sound more aggressive. I'd say those two are my favorite genres.

When I first heard Lady Gaga, I had some fun because that beat was sick. Then I took a ride on a disco stick.

I listened to a bit of Rage, it's decent I spose. I like more pure hip-hop instead of hip-hop fusion, so I like Mos Def/Biggie over Beastie Boys/Run-DMC personally.

There are various artists that I heard for the first time and immediately became a fan.

The one that is currently most salient to me is Secret Garden-- I heard their song "Nocturne" on the radio one day and was immediately enchanted by it. After creating a Secret Garden Pandora station, "Elan" was the first song to pop up, which had similar musical qualities indeed, and made me cheery all day.

Another is Hadorbanim (lit: The Porcupines), an Israeli band, and one of their songs, יצאנו לרקוד "Yatzanu Lirkod" (lit: We Went To Dance) that had a Michael Jackson sort of feel to it. I heard it while travelling with my Birthright bus.

The first time I heard "modern rap..."

Yeah, no

"Modern rap" is both pretty vague and a sweeping generalisation. Disregarding rap as a musical medium is the same as disregarding pop music, or any other type of music for that matter - it can either be an art form or a commercialised product (or something in between). I would post links to some examples rap I like, but unfortunately I can't post links to things with profanity.

At the tender age of 5, my mother was dating a "pharmacist" that was close to a band. We would often be seen hanging around their studio. Me of course with my head phones firmly in place during practice sessions. That is where my love of Man o War, and all things heavy; was born.

At 14, I went to a house party. The opening riffs of 'Blind' were cutting through the din of voices that occupy any good teenage gathering. I said to my host, "did Sepultura release a new B side?" At that precise moment, Johnathan Davis' growl screamed through the pa, "ARE YOU READY?!" As my jaw plunged to the floor, I knew music would never be quite the same for me. We all spent the whole night listening to that album over and over.

While time has broadened my musical tastes, those two moments stand out to me.

You got me wrong, I ADORE rap. Rap makes up the majority of what I listen to. This new rap-pop or whatever is awful though, and I can't understand why people like it more than the classics of the 80s and 90s.

When I first heard my two favorite styles (dubstep and rock) the reactions were different. When I first heard 'Crazy Train' by Ozzy Osborne I was like OMG I love guitar!!!!! Then I started getting more interested in 70s-90s rock. The just recently my friend was talking about how crazzzzzy awesome dubstep is and I thought hmph some highly overated genre like new Pop. I was wrong I was on Pandora and though WTH and started playing Dubstep, first song I heard...... Dun Duh Duh DUHHHHH 'The Hero' by Nostalgia which is basically a variation between Legend of Zelda- Overworld and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Overworld with some heavy beats and I was instantly hooked w/ Dubstep. Now my favorite artist is Skrillex, favorite Song(s); Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites and First of The Year (Equinox) both by Skrillex! I'll post links.

Just wanted to post another:

I was recently watching Daredevil (by Marvel Film Productions (created by:Stan Lee)) and heard an amazing song during the funeral scene and my mind was itching to know who it was and what was the song. I then (2 nights later) watched so you think you can dance and saw Hampton "The Exorcist" Williams dancing (I'll post link) and it played the same song. By now my mind was about ready to explode! So I went online and searched up "Daredevil Soundtrack" and looked for the funeral scene and saw..... Dun Dun Dun DUUUUH, 'My Immortal' by Evanesence. And now its (and the band) is one of my favorite songs and bands.
