Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

What will replcace Claydol??

(Courtesy of Pokebeach):

Magnezone (Prime) - Lightning - HP 140
Stage 2 - Evolves from Magneton

Poke-Power: Electromagnetic Draw
You can use this power once during your turn. Draw cards from your deck until you have 6 cards in your hand. This power can't be used if this Pokemon is affected by a Special Condition.

[L][C] Lost Burn: 50x damage. Place any number of Energy attached to your Pokemon in play into the Lost Zone. This attack does 50 damage for each of those Energy cards.

Weakness: Fighting x2
Resistance: Metal -20
Retreat: ?

Well...Magnezone = bdif after rotation? XD

lol magnegatr.

If Magnezone becomes primary draw power (which I doubt), SPs will have a hard time keeping up because they'll lose Claydol and Uxie, but Stage 2s will gain a draw card - worse, one that they can't easily KO, like Claydol could be.

Zomahgoodness Beach.
"place any number of Energy attached to your Pokemon in the Lost Zone. This attack does 50 damage for each of those Energy Cards..."
If my French is right (which it most likely is, considering it a heritigial language for me) then the translation does make a distinction between Energy Card and Energy -_-

I don't think there will be a replacement to Claydol, personally. I think it'll just become a more supporter/trainer based format.

here's my take on how draw will get affected once claydol will almost assuredly get rotated next season:

People aren't going to use card like Dodrio. Honestly, i feel that people are simply going to rely on spiritomb and a heavy supporter line to set up. The only possible "engine" I could see working is a Staraptor FB Lv X tech. Once your spiritomb gets KO'd, you could promote it, level up, and free retrat back to the bench and use a supporter of your choice every turn, and even that I am not sure of, due to it's weakness to luxray gl, which will presumably be staying (and staying popular, which it might not if it becomes RR-On) in the 2010-2011 season. It could fit even better into SP decks, with its ability to be searched out via SP Radar, but i have a feeling that Cyrus's Conpsiracy covers Starpator's job well enough. If you're playing SP and your hand is so bad that you actualyl need an extra supporter out of nowhere, chances are it also won't be strong enough to build the staraptor in the first place.

Disruption will be HUGE. Things like Giratina's Let Loose, the upcoming Weavile from HS:Unleased/Revived Legends, and other disruption cards will be incredily strong with no claydol or uxie to refill your hand anymore.

I reckon fire decks could become really strong. With Kingdra and Gyarados most likely getting rotated and Palkia G becomnig bad due to the loss of Uxie/Azelf/Mespirit, fire decks will become a lot better, especially because they have a draw engine (Ninetales HG:SS) whereas other decks don't, which should give them an advantage over the rest of the field once Uxie and Claydol are rotated out.

Obviously this is all speculation and whether the new format will be PL-On, or RR-On, or even something else could drastically affect the metagame, and what we use to draw cards and set our pokemon up. Only time will tell.

I think draw power is going to become much more deck-specific after claydol. For a deck to be competitive, it will have to find its own consistent draw engine, instead of every deck using the same one.
For example, and bear in mind this is speculation:
SPs will use the cyrus/staraptor engine.
Fire decks will use the ninetales/typhlosion engine.
Grass decks will use sunflora. (as crappy as that is)
Stage 2 decks will use Magnezone.
Scrub decks will use Dodrio/Noctowl.
Stage 1 decks will use Spiritomb.
IMO, SP decks will be the most consistent, followed by fire and stage 2s. Everything else... well that basically just leaves out stage 1s but who likes donphan anyway.

Magnezone Prime is terrible, no offence. It's a STAGE 2, but unlike, say, Pidgeot FRLG, it's Poke-Power is kinda bad. Draw until you have 6? That's like a much worse Claydol, and it's a stage 2 as opposed to a Stage 1, and most likely has a really high retreat cost to boot. Add magnezone Prime to the "scrub list", please.

Magnzone is not the answer. Not all decks can play it. It becomes insanely dumb for people do make space just for it. I expect that Copycat and other shuffle cards will become big once again.

Magnezone Prime is not THE answer, but it will be AN answer. Draw until you have 6 cards is pretty decent - especially if you're running Night Teleporters.

Magnezone is just a handy card to have around. Especially if disruption becomes huge, having him around will help.

guys guys guys you need to check DAH BEACH more often like 2 a day cuz here http://pokebeach.com youll see the magnezone prime HMmm see him? yeh draw cards till yah got 6 basicley a worse claydol cuz another stage more hp tho and he dont put any on bottom but its worth it HMM?

ABSOL PRIME/AMPHAROS PL FTW OMGGG

jk haha.

The way it looks there won't be a Claydol replacement, but Magnezone looks promising. BTS/Candy yayyy

Yeah I'd love to tech a 2-1-2 line into my deck for the sole purpose of drawing cards...

GL getting that out every game =/

You could always open with Spiritomb and use Darkness Grace to evolve Magnemite to Magneton, then on turn 2, you evolve Magneton to Magnezone. If only, Magneton had the Claydol power instead of Magnezone :frown:

@ Hatter, the only problem is that in place of Claydol in the past, there was a superior trainer engine (like Holon), or cards that still made up the difference in ways that still provided an immense advantage (Magcargo, Pidgeot, etc). Looking into the new format (and presuming PL on), neither of those options are really available unless you run SP, which has a trainer engine exclusive to it and easier access to Staraptor FB Lv X.
