Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Where are the collectors at?

Not in the same league as Mozz and trophy cards, but my recent spending spree has started to come through - I received my Pokémon Scramble set and the 2009 movie blister packs! No point in putting up pictures as there are nice scans at www.collectorviper.com!

I absolutely love the scramble set - its got a really sturdy heptagonal play mat, and some really funky dice, totally love them!

The movie packs have been discussed loads already, but I will say this - the foil design is totally awesome. Its basically a dot matrix design - its kinda hard to explain but a matrix of small circles that are foiled in the same colour as the underlying art. Really gorgeous effect IMO, not too 'obvious'

See - don't need to have super-rare cards to have a bit of fun :p

I don't really collect a lot of the newer cards, but I have to admit those are really cool. The scramble set artwork kinda reminds me a little of the pokemon snap cards and the movie cards certainly do have a unique holo pattern.

Nice dogma, i just purchased that scramble set to I really like it as well, and it did remind me of pokemon snap.

In my opinion though i do think the older japanese promos are "better" than the new ones, for the main reason that they are out of print, and they are much more difficult to find then the newer ones. Also the older ones have a lot less prints than the new cards.

For example a lot of the japanese numbered promos like the mcdonalds sets, festa pikachu, railway promos and others from that time had a very limited run, and were only given away at events or for a short time. the newer promos were given out for a longer period, and more copies were made. The only new dpt promo that is very rare like masaki promo rare is the pikachu from dasuki, and the jumbo birthday pikachu. Both of those are distributed at a much lower level than most of the newer dpt promos, which makes them more sought after

Hehe i have all the mcdonalds promos and the Festa Pikachu!

For the record, I like most older promos better too - for me, its not so much how rare they are, more about the 'history' - whats special about them, where they came from etc. etc. that's why i spent way over the odds for a complete set of unpeeled vending cards recently, as i just love that part of Pokémon history!

I'm looking for most of the movie vs. decks now... eBay is not showing me anything...

Scott - how do you know that the Dasuki Pikachu was less distributed?

Okay the daisuki pikachu is similar to the players club eevee, and porygon of course not as expensive and rare because they are still giving them away, but you have to be a memeber of the daisuki club and reach 1600 points to get the card. Almost identical to the eevee 500pt and porygon 700 pt. Anyway that is one card i have had my eye on, it is somehwat expensive usually around $120-200 but it is a very nice card and i do not know many people with it.

Oh and the vs cards i got rid of all of those sorrry, I think the only one i have left is a tyranitar deck, and im not sure if i want to hold it for now because im not big into the vs  but i like the lucario deck and a few other movie decks, I think though out of decks the neo starter deck takes the cake (totadile and chikorita deck)

I've got the Neo deck (for really cheap actually), and the only vs half deck I've got is the Lucario one... the one I really want is the 5th movie one - I love the art on the Corsola and the Politoed...

I have to agree with the whole "history" thing. Part of the reason that makes collecting so interesting is finding the story behind each card. For instance why/how they were given away. Sometimes finding the actual information about a specific card can almost be as hard as finding it, as is the case with most prize cards.

Yes I have to agree with that, harder than finding a really rare trophy and/or prize card is finding history/information on them, which is essential to know if you're a collector who wants a unique collection and to make sure the cards that consist in your unique collection very few have but many would like to have.

yes that is true i really like the stories behind the cards, especially the tournament ones because those have the best stories.

oh and nice dogma i like that neo set it is hard to get and it pops up rarely on ebay

We should totally start a website or something to collect the history of these cards (before its lost forever!)

yeah i mean there is bulbapedia, but the history is very shallow at best. Some of the newer cards have more detail to them, but most of the older ones have about a one or two line description. When trying to find the exact amount, for example the tropohy khan it just says, how many were given it are very few, also with the illustrator. Maybe why the illustrator is the top card for collectors is because noone knows how many exist, but it has to be very very low because you see cards where less then ten exist now and still no illustrators are poping up.

Scott are you willing to scan your promos (in high quality?) Same goes for everyone on here actually.... it'd be nice to have a the complete card list ever made!

If everyone is willing, I reckon we would have most of the cards between us (my contribution being the Neo set LOL!!). What do you think? The Snap prize cards would be difficult but not much else!

yeah i could scan just about everyone of them. i had a guy asking for some for bulbapedia, but to put them on there it is a headache and a half. I can get ones that you need though but what site are we trying to put them on...here? I mean i could contribute some better pictures than most of the ones that are up but i just need to know which ones people want/need.

Yeah, maybe here for now, but I really want to start something like www.collectorviper.com, but with more detail (and less news!)

I'll see what I have and maybe start a new thread with a wishlist - don't want to take over your excellent thread Scott!!

haha thats alright it is a good idea that sparked from talking about collecting so it is no problem, if you need scans you can let me know though

Sorry, I didn't make the system,. I just follow it. =p

I try to get descriptions added, I've only been the guy in charge of TCG since Stormfront, and I've been trying my best to get around to the older cards, and adding details to them.

yeah i think bulbapedia is the best bet for information. I mean i dont have information that is absolute on most of the cards. Most of the information is just certain but i know people who know exactly how may of each card there are

Yes, but your work on the new cards especially is really awesome :thumb: Also, from it was from Bulbapedia that I realised there were actually two Pokémon Snap contests, so its definitely a great start...

Your site idea sounds pretty good Dogma.
As soon as I get back from Tunisia I'll be able to help a bit if the idea goes ahead.

I'm going to be recieving a ______'s Chansey soon and was wondering if anyone kn ows where they came from?
