Why California

A couple years ago (2004) when I complained about Worlds being on the same weekend as GenCon Indy, PUI said they learned a lesson. They need to plan about 2 years in advance in order to get the place they want.

So, I'm guessing CA is a "stepping stone" to something that has a 2-3 year waiting list in order to reserve it.

I say we go back to Pokemon's OP roots. The Queen Mary, or better yet, a Cruise ship.

I am from northern California, and I am glad that Worlds was here in 2005 and will be again this year, 2006. It is about a 10-12 hour drive from where i live to Los Angeles or San Diego. I would be even more thrilled with a Worlds in northern California's San Francisco or San Jose/Santa Clara. Susan, Santa Clara's PTO runs great City Championships, Pre-releases, Regional Championships, and Gym Challenges. Hopefully we'll see the California State Championship move north one year, and Susan can run it.

I travel for work, and visit Texas often. Texas is hot and humid, really quite hellish in August. Having said that; cars, hotel rooms, restaurants, and convention centers have air conditioning; hotels have pools; Texas has BBQ (not as good as Memphis, but good) and Six Flags over something.

Most importantly, Texas has great PTO's, most notable would be Team Cook who has the largest Premier Event attendance for all tournaments in all of Pokemon. Team Cook has the experience running the huge events and all the feedback from the events run are overwhelmingly positive.

While I am not a fan of Texas in August, I would gladly bring my son to a Team Cook Texas Worlds Championship. Texas really does pull the numbers.

.

Six Flags was shut down

My son earned an invite to worlds last year. I wouldnt allow him to play pokemon this year because they made it in California again. It seems elitist. There are 49 other states...

Ouch! Meany!

NJ has got the Pokemon Center close by (NYC). And, Origins (Columbus OH) aint too far away either. I wish there was something more close to the Rockies.

I find it interesting that Easterners think that distances between cities are greater the closer you get to the Atlantic ocean.

Not eliteist-more like underutilization of a tool. Worlds may be a closed event, but the buzz it can generate is useful in promoting OP in the area. Besides, eventually the sea levels will rise and all the major cities in CA and FL will be underwater.

Well look at it this yay:

2004: Orlando but why? It was done on the grounds of disneyworld plus it was so dang close to the other parks in the area it was a waste of time to argue that it shouldent.

2005: San Diego and why? It was done because most of wizards BIG events ended in san diego and they wanted this event to be back home for a year to give some memories.

2006: Anaheim and why again? Well its really defined in one woird: DISNEYLAND!
The POP crew wanted it there so they can have a place for kids to go a day or 2 before and for people to enjoy something

Next year expect it to be somewhere where its close to great amusemnet parks and family fun. I cant see if its gonna be in the USA or the world.

In 2007 Worlds is in Norway here in Europe, thats what Tego said, but that was on 1 April =P lol
I'm 75% Norwegian (Austad and Knudson grandparents). I'd love to visit my roots.

I really don't understand this complaint.

Nintendo1: "Where should we fly people free-of-charge and put them up in a hotel for free so they can play Worlds this year?"

Nintendo2: "Well, we could put it somewhere where there is a lot of tourist stuff to do or maybe we should put it somewhere more central, like Omaha."

Nintendo1: "Hmmm, it's quite a quandary."

Nintendo2: "Yes, one could say it's a dilema."

The people complaining about this are primarily those without trips. If you have a trip, who CARES where it is?!

As for not letting your kid play Pokemon because you don't like the fact that Worlds is in Los Angeles, that's got to be a joke, right? That sounds pretty goofy.

If it's in Beruit, I'm not going.

Worlds is an expensive proposition, even with travel and and accomodations paid for.

i <3 cali...it could be in cali every YEAR and i don't think too many people would complain. it's just a good place to have the tournament and to have a trip to

lets just all agree people that live in Cali are happy, people that live about 2 states away from Cali all complain =]

Maybe worlds next year can be in San Fransisco cuz theres a 6 flags there plus for some reason alot of people like that stupid golden bridge(i think its orange), doesnt impress me anymore seen it soo many times... plus you can go to baseball games theres the oakland and san fransisco ball park that has a game like every week or something... and in San Fransisco they have the best sour dough bread bowl and clam chowder ever! =]
