Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Will there be another Georgia marathon this year?

Agreed, the biggest turnoff for me last year was I saw they did one in a mcdonald's. Now, McDonald's is a fine establishment sure, but not a very ideal pleace for a pokemon tournament.

That McDonald's is one of the biggest in the area; seats over 100 people. There is a weekly league held there as well. The "local" comic / TCG store were very unfriendly to Pokemon players in the past and the players and parents were not going to go back to an unappreciative venue. Yes, it is a bit crowded at times, but it is DEFINITELY worth it. I have played there for 2 Cities and numerous BR's. It's all about the people, and they are THE BEST! Come and see for yourself; GREAT TIMES!!

Georgia Marathon is the best series of competitive play every year it has occurred. Best players. Best judges. SOME of the best venues. Come get some. >=)

Georgia Marathon

Many Thanks for All of the positive comments...!!!! :thumb: Because of the way Christmas
hits we will probably be running Events from Sunday December 26th through Sunday January
2nd. I will be running the first 4 South of Atlanta and Greg Wyman will be running the next
4 in North Atlanta. For the South...Google exit 47 on I-85 South. This is about 1 mile from
the Heroe's Venue in Newnan. Many hotels and restaurants available. Stay here for the
first 4 then I will get you a location for the North Side. You maybe can do priceline.com and
get a good deal....You just have to pay up front and not Cancel. The Venues are going to be
Great this year. We will have more judges and help running the tournaments. What's Better
Than Spending the Holidays in GEORGIA with many of the BEST Pokemon Players in the
Nations....??? Don't get snowed in....Come to Georgia and have a Blast with All Your
Pokemon Friends....:thumb:: I will be posting with more details soon. We can't

The pizza buffet and McDonald's/ Burger King were two days that I wouldn't miss for the world. I really hope they'll be on the trail again this year.

Georgia Marathon...

Please HOLD OFF on Room Reservations for the time being. Some of the beginning
Venues are Still Up in the Air. We will get them nailed down and post the Final Draft

Vacation in Georgia....!!!!:thumb::biggrin:

Waiting to book the rooms. Hoping to do at least 6 of them this year with maybe Carson coming down from Ft. Bragg for a couple.

When considering whether or not to go, the fact that I imagine mediocre fast food locations as venues for playing cards really bothers me.

Jim: If they use the Pizza place, that was nice. Now, the McD's.....too noisy and the SRs had to go play at a nearby fastfood restuarant (not enough room). I didnt care for that. Hopefully, no fastfood joints this time around.

Tower Games was nice and that was day 2 of my 3 days there. Thankfully, McD's was day 3 and we dropped to get an early start to our drive home.

The McD was a mess but what a turnout and it worked out okay. They have had some growing pains over the last couple of years and it will be interesting to see what venues are secured for this time around. I highly encourage anyone that can make it to do so as this has been our favorite event series of the year that past few. The competition level really spiked last year and winning one of these tournaments was like winning most states. It is awesome to see the metagame evolve each day too. Our hotel rooms were just a sea of cards.

Best of all are the friends that are made over a weeks time of playing!! Bringing in the New Year with Sniper and Lawman....nothing like it!

The reason why the events were held at a fast food place is those are the locations were the leagues are and also the Spring & Autumn Battle Roads. I know Gary and Greg are working on trying not to have them at restaurants this year, but sometimes you have to work with what you can get.

im seriously considering going if i could get off work for a lil this year.... missed last year because i forgot about it completely

Blaine: The idea of, 'we need to take what we can get' doesn't do it for me. Especially in, what I think, is year 4. I think the people in charge are smart innovative people, and they've had time to learn, they do not possess a monopoly, and are probably well motivated to improve their event in doable ways. I don't mean to suggest that a few people saying "I wouldn't attend the GA Marathon if an event is at a McDonald's" is the right motivation, I think many people described it as an experience that could've been improved upon (and Keith understands a good experience as he delivers one by judging frequently and at top events). The simplest way to improve seems to be to leave Mickey D's instead of trying to solve the issues of Mickey D's. Honestly, its not designed to host a tournament, much less one that is growing every year. Just thinking of my own area and the resources available, some veteran's hall like the American Legion of VFW could probably be talked into doing it for free since it benefits the area's youth.

I understand leagues are held there and can be quite successful. BRs would work there too, bc the volume of players is less. With the popularity of this event (yes, it IS an event!) that Gary and Greg worked hard to court, I would think that a bit of a more viable location could be had for the CCs than a Mickey D's. JHMO.

As a PTO, I certainly understand that sometimes one cannot find a location that is big enough and cost efficient also. Not everyone is blessed to have a card/gaming shop. I have no card shops in my home area. I feel your pain. I also understand the need to have a separate "city" for each event, yet keep them centered around the greater Atlanta area. Locations will be limited. If McD's is the best you can do, then I understand. But dont expect players to say nothing if the enviroment is not the best for playing the TCG.

Keith

PS I love the series and hope to come down again for the 3rd yr in a row. Greg and Gary have done a great job in growing the game in the area and to attract players from all over to come to these events.

Without turning this into a major debate the only thing I would say is that different locations are being looked at to host the tournaments, but sometime you have to work with what you have. Another point, is it right to move a event from a location that has supported Pokémon Leagues, players, & tournament all year round just to please a person that doesnt like Big Macs? Hay they currently have the McRib, everyone loves the McRib. Like I said they are looking at different locations trying to find something in the area that would hold the number of players planning to attend the event. You also have to remember City Championships don't have a location budget like Nationals & Worlds do.

Well said Keith, as a PTO is it hard to find locations to run events as there are not card/gaming shops on every corner. Sometimes you have to make lemonade out of the lemons you are given. Mmmmm…Lemonade and a McRib sounds good right now ;)

We've all talked about this last year and everyone agreed restaurants were a terrible location for tournaments, especially now with the event drawing more and more people. We appreciate all the hard work put into making this event work each year, but we need to make an effort to:

1) Start tournaments on time.
2) Avoid restaurants.

Starting these tournaments on time is particularly important because not only will they have a lot of players, but it's not just a weekend of tournaments, it's an entire week. Four days into the event last year we were all so sleep deprived we had to skip one of the tournaments.
