Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Windows 7 Public Beta

I don't think Win 7 will run on it....
Now if was a PC with 512 ram it might run, but run sorta slow.

I am building my own PC and deciding one XP 64x (I think there is a Xp 64bit) or Vista Ultimate 64x.
Not going to go into much detail but, it has a 2.80 Quadcore CPU as of right now and a XFX Nvidia 790i motherboard and I am debating on going with the 1600 wat PSu or the 1000wat PSU...
At best the ram will be 8gb by june since I am starting out with 4gb. The computer I have let my grandpa use is like a file server to me since he has DSl and I am on ddial-up most the time....

Darn.. I was really hoping the 32 MB of RAM would be enough.

XP x64 has very little support. You will be better off with Vista x64. I have XP x64, but a lot of things do not have drivers and so it is worthless IMO.

If the machine is DDR2, then I would get all 8 GB of RAM now. If it is DDR3 then wait. DDR2 is really cheap right now, not sure if it will go lower. DDR3 is becoming more prevalent, and once it is mainstream the price of DDR2 will rise.

Ya the 790i only takes DDR3....
And I can not order form newegg at the time which has some great prices...
I bought a huge full tower case, since I plan on water cooling after I build it.
only missing
Harddrive: 1.5tb
PSU: Possible 1600wat (Requires electrition to come and install new outlet:biggrin:) and the 1000wat...
Video Card: 9800 GTX Black edition or somethign else.
Ram: Ya DDR3 RAM
Here is a link to my build log.

There are reasons people like to jump on these betas. Some are just curious, some need to know how future proof their computers are, and some need to know if the programs they use will work.

I'm actually in a fourth group. I am a computer technician. I - or rather my room mate - downloaded Windows 7 to see what it was like for professional reasons. I have no personal interest in it past wanting to know how to fix it before it goes to retail. When it goes retail I will probably purchase it. Until then, I'll stick with Vista.

Correct.. I am pretty sure there are a few more reasons.. I guess I was more referring to the non-tech professional public.

Like you, I need to know the ins and outs of Windows before it is released so I can provide better support for my clients when and if they choose to migrate. I also program, so I need to make sure that the programs that I do write, will still work in Windows 7. If they don't I then I need to send updates to them as well. Once I graduate, who knows what I will be needing the betas for.

However for more personal reasons, I am also just curious as to see if Microsoft can redeem themselves from the early Vista issues that plagued users. So far it looks like they may be able to.

would this reformat My hard drive? Because I really need to do that, but I can't find my XP disk. With this do it?

Yes, this would format your hard drive. However without your XP disk, you will not be able to install XP. This is a beta and should not be used as your primary OS. Also this beta does expire in August.

Though if you just want to reformat it (and not install on OS for some reason) you can save time by downloading one of the many hard drive wiping utilities that you can burn to a CD. Active@ KillDisk is a good hard drive eraser. http://www.killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm (Download the ISO, bottom right corner of the table). This will make data unrecoverable (for the most part).

If you are wanting to put XP back on the computer then you will need the disk. If you have a firend with the same computer that should work just use your Product Key if asked for it. If not, then you may want to contact your PC manufacturer for a replacement. They usually charge, for this service. I think that Dell charges around $20-25.

You may want to check your computer store on campus. Universities and many colleges generally have an agreement with Microsoft for extremly discounted products. For example, Office 2007 Ultimate cost me $22, and Windows Vista Ultimate cost me $34. These are full versions, with no restrictions. I assumed that you are a college student at OU from your screen name....

Or if you don't mind running a server OS you can get Windows Server 2008 for free, if you are a college student. Microsoft created a program (not computer) that allows students enrolled in universities to get access to some of their software for free. The program is called Dreamspark. (http://www.dreamspark.com ) or (http://channel8.msdn.com/)
The first link is the actual link, I provided the second link as it shows you that it is a Microsoft site.

My computer is a custom build, so I will try the Hard Drive eraser.

The reason I wanna reformat my PC is(You'll laugh) I seem to have a Keylogger on my computer that I can't get rid of, and it's stealing my WoW password and making it impossible for me to play.

And I won't be a college student untill this August. I've been accepted, but I have to Graduate High School first.
