Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Winter Regional Championships: Salem OR, January 19-20, 2013 (UPDATED)

I received word from the manager at the Shilo Inn today and she did not think that they are booked during that time. She was out of the office today, but will check tomorrow and set up the group rate. Don't panic yet folks. Stay tuned for updates in the next day or two.

Awesome! I'm so happy the community helps each other out like this. I'm still relatively new and it keeps impressing me. Thanks to everyone!

I go in tomorrow to sign the agreement for a Pokemon discount. They have lots of rooms available and will offer a rate of $70 plus tax to players. You can get a double queen or a single king at that rate. As soon as I go in and get it set up I'll post the group name you need to use to get the deal. The Shilo will also have an open gaming room available Friday and Saturday nights as part of the deal.

OK, as promised here is the information you'll need to book a discount room at the Shilo Inn and Suites, Salem.

Group Name - Pokemon Regional Tournament
On-line booking discount code - POKE

You can call the hotel directly (503-581-4001) or the toll free reservation line (800-222-2244). Tell them you want the Pokemon Regional Tournament group rate. They are offering a double queen or single king room at $70 per night plus tax. That's about $30 less than the posted rate and cheaper than you could get from one of the discount sites like hotels.com.

If you want to book on-line that will work as well. Just go to the Shilo website, use the discount code POKE and the group rate should come up.
Shilo has been great to work with over the past few years. They provide an open gaming room on the second floor Friday and Saturday nights, have continental breakfast, a pool, hot tub, sauna and they are located less than 2 miles from the event location.

What about for staff members
I will be sending out the letter to staff in a day or two, but the short answer is, if you are a staff member that had a room provided last year you should expect the same deal this year. I arrange for staff rooms so you wouldn't need to book your own.

Hotel has been confirmed for me +4 others. It is going to be a long drive, but it will be worth it so see all my old friends.

New Location - Still at the Fairgrounds

This year we were not able to get our usual building for Regionals at the fair and expo center because by the time we found out we were moving the date to January the Jackman Long building was already booked for the weekend (there is a home show in it that weekend). The only building available that weekend big enough for us was the Pavilion, which is nice on the main floor but has a few thousand seats around the perimeter of the building. That makes the space a bit uninviting since all that extra space will sit empty.

Ever since we booked the venue I have been working with the staff at the fair and expo center to see if we could switch to something more like the Jackman Long building. Initially all the buildings of that size were booked, but I found out last week that the group in Columbia Hall, the building right next door to Jackman Long, would be willing to switch with us. I got confirmation on that today, so we are moving to Columbia Hall!

Location Change for Winter Regionals:

Columbia Hall
Oregon State Fair and Exposition Center
2330 17th Street NE
Salem, OR 97301

My friends and I from B.C are planning attending this event. We've found a really price on a bus to Portland but getting to Salem may be troublesome. Is there public transport that would allow us to travel from Portland to Salem?

You have three options that I can find:
  1. Choice #1: Greyhound - http://www.greyhound.com/ Takes a little over an hour and costs $16 to $20
  2. Choice #2: Amtrak - http://www.amtrak.com/ Takes about an hour and costs $15
  3. Choice #3: Combination of Tri-Met (Portland's public transit system) and SMART (South Metro Area Regional Transit)
You can take Tri-Met to Wilsonville and then take the SMART 1X to Salem.
    http://www.tri-met.org/
    http://www.ridesmart.com/
The Tri-Met portion of the fare depends upon which services and zones you use but it should be no more than $5. Tri-Met runs all day; check their website to figure out which routes will get you from where you'll be starting to Wilsonville. You may have to transfer along the way. There are a number of SMART runs between Wilsonville and Salem each day and the cost is $3.
See you in January!!!

don't see that the Oregon Expo has reserved event

Hi, BDS, I checked the oregon state fair website and the Pokemon regionals was not on their calandar. Also, I checked the pokemon.com website for regional tournament information, and the message said "Information of the winter regionals is comming soon" check back later. Why isn't everyone coordinated on this? Is there possibility there will be change of venue or date?
