Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Worlds 2009 location, and new tourney structure for Japan

Interesting to see that Japan is having Nationals.

Please note that I just used the word "Nationals" for convenience in this news article. The final event in Japan's tournament series is still called "Battle for the determination of Japan's Representatives" [for Worlds] or something like that, depending how you translate it. :p

Will the Regional events in Japan carry invites for the first or second placers, and then Nationals invites for a lot more, or will invites only come from Nationals?

It's too early to tell, but I think it looks like placing high at Nationals - the final event of the season - is going to be the only way to get a spot at Worlds.

I'm curious as to whether organized play for the video games will accompany the TCG everywhere, or just Japan. The Video Game Showdown seems, IMO, like the start of something bigger.

It will be very interesting to see. I'm curious about the fact that it seems like next year's DS tournament won't just be called Video Game Showdown, but "Pokémon Worlds". This is going to be exciting, I can't wait to find out more. :D

So if the Pokémon TCG world championships are renamed Pokémon worlds, then does that mean we could be having Video game nationals in each country as well?

If your gonna go back to California, don't make it in San Diego AGAIN!! Its been there to many times from Wizards to POP. Everyone is forgetting Los Angelos. Its a great tourist spot and a close run to many amusement parks and fun family spots.

Thats just an opinion but really id like to see Las Vegas. Its yes a gambling hotbed but its also a great place for kids to visit with amusement parks and other places.

Well there is out largest indoor themepark - The Adventuredome.

Theres also the Excalibur, which has an underground arcade.

The odds (pun intended) of worlds being in Vegas are about the same as someone putting $3 in a megabucks machine and hitting it on the first pull - ASTRONOMICAL

We do have kid friendly attractions, but the aura of the city is way too overpowering with the adult orientated nature of the city.

Now im glad its gonna be on the west coast, meaning I can drive it and save money on plane tickets. I hope its in California, but if it isnt, thats fine also.

We will all find out in less than 30 days...

"on the west coast of the US" Doesn't mean California. Las Vegas has some great convention centers too. ;)

las vegas isn't on a coast. the whole state of nevada is land locked. maybe it'll be in anchorage lol

I hope Worlds is coming back to Socal. The event was awesome in Anaheim in 2006. The Hilton Hotel in Anaheim again sounds good to me.

If anything POP is making a round trip....Orlando, San Diego, Anihiem, Hawaii, Orlando San Diego....etc IMO

Pleeeeeeease be Seattle!!!! That would be absolutely super for those of us in Canada who can't afford a trip across the USA .

Ok, my speculation that POP will book on a hilton hotel that is large enough to accomdate like 1500 people or more from all over the world.

Best choices they would go for are: Seattle - WA, Porland - OR, San Fransisco (or Oakland) - CA, Anaheim - CA, or San Diego - CA....

Pokemon held an incredibly successful Pokemon Rocks America event in San Jose at the San Jose Convention Center. The San Jose Convention Center has an attached Hilton Hotel. Souther California has hosted the last two California based Worlds Championships, and all of the State Championships in memory. San Jose has hosted Regional Championships, is home to a past 2nd Place Worlds Player and a past National Champion, has a fantastic PTO, great players, thriving league, and has demonstrated an ability to host major events (PRA). With nearby family attractions like Great America theme park, and two nearby airports (San Francisco and San Jose), as well as the nearness of a world class tourist destination (San Francisco), it is conceivable that 2009 will be the year that San Jose hosts a Premier Tourney bigger than a Regional.
