Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Worlds 2010 info updated on Pokemon.com!

To be fair, they did suspend the modified rotation for a year. The result is that we all didn't have to go out looking/paying for cards to replace Claydols and other commonly-used trainers. We could all stick with the same decks with the occasional updates that we used back last year.
Plus, they give us some of the most important staple cards in league, which is very good for new players having issues to get Claydols, Roseannes etc.

But I still think another place (last time they had Anaheim after San Diego) would have been a much better choice than Hawaii. There could be a lot more trips for the same money, giving players a higher chance to earn one (or a higher chance to pay the trip if they got an invite) and therefor attracting more players to Premier Events.

If Silvestro and Jay H opted out of rankings, would that free up two invites while still allowing them to get their trips to worlds?
That's actually the point of the whole "no-pass-down" thing that it would not free up invites. ^^

I am going to take the approach that we actually get more invites this way.

Here is why I feel that way. We got a total of 25 + 8 + 4 + 4 = 41 as far as Nats and NA Ratings last year. I can say with some confidence that the T4 in both MX and CA most likely won't break the T40. If they do, only one will do so. That means there will still be 39 spots available. T8 at Nats will DEFINITELY make it into the T40. That would leave 31 spots. I am fairly confident that atleast 1 if not 2 of Worlds winners will be in that, leaving us with 30 spots, which is 5 spots MORE than what we normally have. I can't be upset with that, especially seeing as the last 3 years I have finished in that area.

Well.... this only further shows how Canada and mexico obviously shouldn't be categorized with the elephant known as the US

I do like that there's more invites to go around, essentially, which is pretty nice. However, what does bug me is the lack of trips - therefore, rating invites and four of the nats players that make t8 won't be able to go more than likely...really, really wish they would've at least worked out a trip to top 8 of nats or something...oh well, at least there's more invites.

wow, pokemon is getting cheaper and cheaper, worlds winners prize is now 7.5K it used to be 10k..... but I do think the invite system is better, more rank invites so that people who dont live in areas with a huge amout of events may be able to get one.

Actually it was 7.5K Scholarship for years lol.

But I still think they should bring back Gym/Stadium Challenges, exspecially for an expensive place like Hawaii. ^^

It was never 10K. I have only seen it at 7.5K.

NA has been around 1840 the last few years as far as where 40th has been. That's a good starting point. If you can get above that you should be in good shape to make Worlds. Currently there is only 1 player in MA in NA that is above that. While I feel that 1850 should be fine, I think that to be safe you need to get to atleast 1880, if not a bit higher. :thumb:

Invite

So the top 40 in each age group in NA will receive unpaid invites? That's a bit of an increase from last year, isn't it? (we can discuss the difference of paid and unpaid later)

Oh. I am thinking there will be a 40-70 invite in the grinder for juniors. especially masters there could be only 10 invite because they are old not being stopped by their parents to go.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

Especially during the current economy less people will go. In 2007 there is only like 50 players. This is 3 divisions. This is a expensive place. People also need a good deck because they only go there to win. I am thinking selling cards we dont need and buy cards what we need to play. I am seeing Flygon X the most played. It is $10 on pkmn-cheap-cards.webs.com

We need at least $1500 per person because of flight and hotel. Only way to get travel reward is win at nationals this year which i do not know where it is held this year.

On eBay have bunch of non-legal cards. Everyone is trying to get money to go this year. Also the company pkmn-cheap-cards.webs.com is trying to make money by selling cards for cheap price.

If anyone know where is nationals is at this year please reply.

I don't mean to sound stupid, but how does the Travel Awards work? Does it pay for your trip to Hawaii if you make it to the Top 4 in Nationals or place top 40 in premier ranking?

wow, after the us and most of the rest of the world is recovering from the worst economic slump since the great depression, PUI can't even give a few extra paid trips out. This is ridiculous and a serious let down.

You have to think that if we are recovering from a "slump", then that would imply they are suffering from the same "slump" as well. I am just glad they decided to hold worlds at all. You need to think how much is it going to cost TCPi just to run this mammoth event. Thinking about just the internal cost you have all the TCPi staff that is needed (flight, room, food, etc.), the venue cost (site rental fees, site insurance, electricity cost, etc.) then the other staff, as in judges and coordinators, (flight, rooms, food, etc.). Then you get to the paid trips they are providing to the 27 players, plus the scholarships, prize support, staff/volunteer support/shirts.

They are looking at a huge cost to run the tournament as it is. So personally, I am not going to complain about the extra invites, even if they are unpayed. Because, they might, or might not, keep this new invite policy for future events. If they do, then there is always next year.

When, I grinded in 07, there were less players compared to previous years. We had over 200 players in the previous grinders and we had if recollection remembers 154 or 156 players in 07. I went 7-1 and got 4th. There were only 6 MA that got in. Liz Reed who was 6th didn't even find out until the next morning as they thought they only had 5 spots. The only difference is that it looks like there is going to be more invites/no opting out so that might push up the number of people who make it into via the Grinder.

Grinder

Now in the Grinder will have more less player than last year (2009 San Diego).
I heard almost every JR player in grinder 2008 in Orlando Florida get invited. Now I think everyone in the grinder will be invited but maybe not MA division.

How much player is in the Grinder in 2007?
