This image from a Japanese publication will start to get some buzz today, which reveals Xerneas EX, Yveltal EX, Venusaur EX, Blastoise EX:

It is also showing something mysterious, in that arrow pointing to the question mark card.
First thought: what if it's hinting that Stage 2 EX's can mega evolve?

This may explain Chandy and excadrill ex. Perhaps they'll have mega evolutions as well.

That yveltel card is awesome, tho it kinda looks like darkrai's ex card. I like the XBALL-like attack.

Hmm, it seems that they change the card frames when they change the Ultra rare mechanic.

We had the ruby and sapphire frame and the ex ultra rare.

We had the Diamond and Pearl frame and the Level X ultra rare.

We had the Heartgold Soulsilver and the Prime ultra rare.

We now have the black and white frame and the EX ultra rare.

It seems that we will still have the Black and White frame, and there seems to still be the EX ultra rare, if this is to be real.

Oh boy, EX cards for XY? It's obvious to me that there will still be Mega-Evolutions, what else would those mystery cards be? And there's an M in what looks to be the name of a mystery card.

I guessed we would have Mega-Evolutions as the ultra-rares instead but both EX AND Mega-Evolutions? I'm not so sure. EX cards are some of the rarest and most powerful cards at the moment and to add another tier? A bit ridiculous in my opinion. I'd settle for Mega-Evolutions on their own. I bet Mega-Evolutions will be equivalent to FA or SR cards. As mentioned by signofzeta, every group of card sets previously has had a maximum of 1 ultra rare pokemon card type (exception of Legends?). If there are only a few per set (e.g. just Mega-Venusaur, Mega-Charizard, and Mega-Blastoise as the 3 for the first set) then I don't mind. Otherwise EX cards would have to be a bit more common to allow players to collect these cards to play them (like normal basic/stage1 cards are more common than their evolutions).

And the fact that some Pokemon have 2 different Mega-Evolutions also is a bit of a problem. Which one will they use? Do both versions apply to the 4 card rule? And so on. I'm also not fond of having 2 versions of Mega-Evolutions. As much as I love both Mega-Charizards I'm annoyed at the unnecessary segregation which also affects the TCG making more versions of the same card (don't we all hate Litwick?), even though the Pokemon are slightly different. I would have preferred a Swanna in PB rather than a second non-holo Machamp.

On the other hand at least this allows Legendary Pokemon to still be able to have ultra rare cards. Best case scenario is that both the EX and normal versions of a pokemon can Mega-Evolve and that Mega Evolutions are the equivalent of FA cards but there are only a few per set. I prefer sets to have few ultra rares as it makes them all the more valuable to collect.

Anyhow I like the looks of these EX cards. I'm guessing the Mega-Charizard being segregated is the reason why it didn't appear with these cards. Jungle Hammer seems a bit underpowered for 4 energy but it heals 30 so all is not lost. No absolutely overpowered moves which is a good thing. I'm surprised that Xerneas does bench damage being a fairy type. I would have expected it from Yveltal instead. We still have no idea of what sort of mechanic Fairy type cards will use.

There's only 1 Mega Pokémon allowed per team in the games, so I don't see why these Megas for cards wouldn't be like Stars were. Only one per deck. Old ex's and Stars existed at the same time. Why not now?

The ex series had the ex cards and the star cards.

The HGSS series had Prime cards and the legend cards

I'm assuming that the mega evolutions would be as rare as the legend or star cards.

the 3 symbols next to venusaurs card, soshite, means a link, and the two big katakana above the question mark say ME-GA. so yes that ex is linked to a mega card somehow. 2 years of Japanese paid off!

Little disappointed to see EXs cards back. The thought of Mega-evolving onto a non-EX is pretty cool, but Mega-Evolving onto an EX? Do we really need Mega Blastoise EX? Wasn't Mega Blastoise more than enough? I wanted mega-evolutions to buff NON-EXs, not even more EX play.

Also disappointed in the move sets of these cards.

Life would've been a lot better if BlastoiseEX/VenusaurEX had a small circle in the corner of the picture with the text "Evolves from"…

It seems they dont care about the game anymore. Looks like XY will be just as broken as BW. This is really sad.

We haven't seen the rest of the cards yet. And these cards don't have ridiculously OP moves so it's not all too bad.

I agree there. Would have loved normal mega evolutions. The problem with Mega Pokemon X is that they may be ridiculously OP. I wasn't fond of the Gold Star cards back in the day even though I somehow managed to pull one and it's the only old-school card that I still have. However they were very few in number, though with the rarity I think Mega-Evolutions would be secret rares? Would be nice if they weren't ridiculously rare seeing how they could be game-breakingly powerful and also would be nice if they were Full Art by default instead of reprinting EX cards and trainers as full arts.

As for move sets, yes there isn't something amazing and new in there but at least there won't be too much hype before release causing a rush for certain cards. We can slowly discover the better cards over time and I believe that way is more enjoyable. Who knows, since Charizard EX isn't shown maybe it will actually be an amazing card?

Luxray GL and Garchomp C didn't seem that impressive despite having a high amount of HP. However, you can bet their powered up forms will be broken, and that there will be no reason not to play them. Much like the Level X's. It wouldn't surprise me if one of the mega forms topped 300hp.

Remember that 1 of them can be used with dark patch and DCE. They all still have absurd HP and attack damage, 2 of which will have megas and it looks like non ex pokemon will be they are now.

I totally did not see them continuing EX cards. I figured Megas would be the new Ultra Rares/Full-Arts, being played like LvX's. So it would go Squirtle -> Wartortle -> Blastoise -> Mega Blastoise, for example.

My elation of a nerfed Catcher has been doused with the reality of EX's for at least another couple of years.

(I don't know how much more powerful an EX can get by Mega evolving....G-Booster is kind of an indicator of this.....but what if Mega evolving brought the EX down to 1 prize value? That would be interesting....effect of Life Dew + another attack.)
