Yu-Gi-Oh! Organized Play Canceled in North America

. PLEASE this little "war"

Or "guerrilla" (little war) had to say it!
Yes I am sad to see Yugioh being "canceled" but if this means that we will have better organized play for Yugioh and perhaps a better ban list I may play again as long as they make Chimeratech more playable, such as 2-3 Cyber Dragons in your deck and 2-3 Overload Fusion and Future Fusion.

I also left Yugioh fbecause my area has a lot of very mean spirited players not to mention cheating and they HAVE stole my favorite deck that I modified for years even though it was a ban deck it still had a lot of sentimental value to me.

I never actually had joy in playing Yugioh, since I was never able to win tourneys (trust me, I had all the staples besides Tree Born Frog >.>).
And the reason that i noticed that who ever had more money to spend on Yugioh wins, this may not always be true but usually this is the case.

But with Pokemon, I get joy from playing, the people are nice (except my league leader who is very mean and rude to me since I'm still "new" to the game) and it's not as expensive and has a lot more strategy then Yugioh and don't tell me Yugioh has more strategy, I've played Yugioh since Metal raiders until Force Of The Breaker.

k well this is just for a bit according to them so for now we won the war on them, but we never were even fighting them, our main problem is magic and that is still very populer so even if its gone for I bit its kinda a pitty kill because they were kinda on life support along time ago.
P.S Im talking over all about the yugioh franchise not just the card game because the card game was the only thing holding it together.
PPS well its not really a war but just us seeing what will out survive the other and pokemon will deffinatly outlive yugioh even if it dosn't die here.

Yah, but magic has so much staying power, wizards going out of business would probably be the worst of times for ALL card games.

I don't think you guys are being very cool about this. I mean most Yu-Gi-oH players I just hate and this made me happy at first. But as a former player of the Duel Masters Card Game I know how it feels for all the money that yo invested in a card game to basically be flushed down the toilet. I mean really it feels just weird, Yu-Gi-oh crashing just like that, I predicted this a year ago but it doesn't seem real.

What's left us Poke-players and MTG-players now. Is this the first sign of the biblical apocalypse. What happens now?

I wouldn't go THAT far, there's still Pokemon and M:TG and there's bound to be a new TCG(s) down the road when the time comes. I know how you feel but Yu-Gi-Oh! was a doomed game from the start with severely flawed game mechanics and no resource system at all. It hasn't been worth it for 5 years...

Yu-Gi-Oh may have been a "doomed" game, but it was a GOOD game nonetheless. It has some flawed mechanics but the biggest thing is for it to be fun and it is actually quite a fun card game. Now, I think that if this had been a smooth tradition Yu-Gi-Oh would have continued to do well enough to keep being made. Now that it hasn't had a smooth transition I am not sure. I expect the game will survive as I know that Konami knows better than to kill of something that is making them a ton of money. There have also been other games that while they have flawed mechanics should still be around but aren't because of poor marketing and communication.

Treeborn Frog? Treeborn Frog is a common. You should have at least had that...

More strategy? Neither game has 'more strategy'. To compare the strategy in rations of amount isn't exactly a good idea.

And, by the way, until Force of the Breaker? You've missed the Phantom Darkness Era, and the new Synchro Era. Which means, in short, that you have missed quite a lot.

I never said there was anything wrong with likeing both games I am just curious as to which game has the largest plaer base, I know Pokemon has outsold Yugioh for the last 3 or 4 years.

Now that 463,450 number is that players who have particpated all time or just this year. that would make a juge differance. Are there any numbers for how many players in the US have particapted in a Yugioh Premeir event (not a local tournement at a store but something on the level of a Battle Road or City CHampionship) THoes are the number I would like to compare together.)

I'm not sure what you are looking for. How do you know Pokemon has outsold Yugioh? I've never seen published numbers on that. Antcedotal info from the shops around here sell mostly Magic/Yugioh and then Pokemon.

Weekly Yugioh Tournament at Hobby Shop by us averages 45 - 60 people. Last Regional tournament (equivalent to a city champ) we went to had about 220 people.

Hope that helps.

OK, just until FoB, so you were about the Monarch Format, or the DDT format, well you missed DAD returns, Gladiator Beast, Tele-dad, Lightsworns, Twilight, Plants (yes plants, incredible huh). Look each game has different kind of strategy, and depending which one you focus on (like I focus more in Yugioh as I have more friends in that area) is going to appeared to you as the card has more strategy. Kind of like asking if Football or Soccer has more strategy. However I do have to admit that Pokemon based ON MY AREA (may not be true somewhere else) is nicer, but mainly because those people are children, and as much as evil as you are most of the time you won't be mean to a child. Or a child may not be rude to you. While yugioh is mostly teenagers and young adults (usually until 23 max) and therefore a grown man to a grown man is more likely to be more hostile than a child to child or child to man relationship.

By the way my last message was not targeted at anyone specificly (as in sorry for the misunderstood JandPDS)

Now I have to go school so you won't see me for at least 8 hours so yeah I just leave this to leave you thinking...............................................

Ok I can see Cyber Dragon going back to 2. It hit one becuase of easy Synchro summonings but it still is a 2 for 1 trade. The only way Overload would go up is if Future Fusion was banned or vice versa. Chimeratech was broken as it was and yu-gi-oh tries to get away from the OTK's. But as it is its just an alternatie win condition.

Anyone who thinks yugioh is dead is retarded and seriously needs to do some investigation before they make such asinine statements. There are more yugioh players in the us pokemon players , I mean just go to you local yugioh tournment and compare it to the local pokemon league. Also pokemon hasn't come close to out selling yugioh mostly because pokemon has no real secondary market.

Here are the facts:Konami has taken over distribution and op for yugioh in north American. Konami is doing the sneak peaks and will be announcing their plans for op in the fallowing weeks and are expected to keep the same op as udes as far as regionals and sjc but they also seem to wanna focus on local hobby shops too.Konami has announced the new march first ban list which will bring a more varied and enjoyable march-September format. Seriously yugioh just got a whole lot better than pokemon.

Im sorry but like everything you just said is rong, pokemon has more players and sells more then yugioh, pokemon is the secound most played TCG in the world so maybe there are more players in usa then pokemon but pokemon is played in like so many countrys even if they dont have op, you also are looking at what they said before they cancled play in north america so who knows what they are thinking now and most of all it has not gotten better them pokemon because for the last few years pokemon has been better then yugioh.
P.S with this ban I really think alot of yugioh players will join pokemon or magic so yugioh is dead for now.
PP.S well most people here think yugioh is dead or dying so calling all the people here retarted isn't a good way to make friends

Sadly, Cyber Dragon is still limited, at least in Japan. *cries*

Chimeratech was only bad because when it was a viable deck, you could use all 3 copies of each card, making an OTK much more likely. Once Future Fusion and Overload Fusion were Limited, it killed the deck there (still ticks me off a bit Overload was limited, I mean only Chimeratech is the viable Dark Machine fusion to bring out with it). And of course, I was always ****** that Cyber Dragon was limited in the first place, use of it had already been dying off for a while, so I still saw no reason to Limit it. It's not nearly as bad as Malicious imo, since Malicious will always be able to be activated so long as 1 is in the discard...but eh, that's my ranting.

lol well malicious will have a ever last limited and non for probably the nex year and a half like theyve been doing to it but cyber will probably be put at 1 for a steady time so there no reason to put it back at 2 or 3 lol.anyways if you have a playset of malicious i woudnt get rid of the 3rd just so fast now if the dont put it back at 3 at the ned of the year ya get rid off it lol
and this new ban list and the whole ude thing hurts the us but uk and europe in general will want our card lol
luckily zombie here in the us wasnt that crippled it can still play off pretty good.

Not everything he said is wrong. Konami is taking over YGO, So it's not dead. Also, Pokemon doesn't have more players than YGO. Pokemon is the third biggest TCG, and there's nothing wrong with that. YGO is printed in quite a few languages, and also has quite a world presence from my understanding.

YGO is good competition for Pokemon. It keeps our cards at reasonable prices and the game balanced and fun.

Finally someones that's not a pokemon fanboy who can understand the facts.

I've heard (mind you, I have no idea of the truthfullness of this statement) that UD was told to empty their warehouses of stock. They plan on doing so, but for now they don't seem to be giving any great deals just yet. However if they do dump the product, expect collectors to be a bit upset when the price of cards on the secondary market tank. Sounds like a bit of history repeating itself .... (WOTC and pokemon type history to be exact.)

Which is why a certain Golem is seeing more play. Seriously, if Synchro Monsters were the true reason to Cyber Dragon's banning, Big Force Golem (or whatever its name is) would be right next to it.

The real reason (as aformentioned) is Chimeratech Overdragon and (as not mentioned) Chimeratech Fortress Dragon. Both are god-like cards, but are seriously overrated (as Future Fusion can be destroyed and quite a few cards were and still are capable of stopping Overload Fusion from coming into effect. Shadow Imprisoning Mirror comes to mind). Yes, against a deck that is unprepared for DAD, this is unstoppable, but in the current format, every deck is trying to defend itself against DAD in some way.

Finally, someone else whom agrees with that point.

I'm surprised it didn't all go on UDE Day... From what I hear, the tournament organizers only gave out a few packs, and none of them were provided by UDE for the event (as in, specifically for it). However, the Crimson Crisis Prerelease is this week, so who knows?

Pokemon is the #2 most popular deck in terms of dollar sales in the US for the past 3 years. Where did you get the idea thst it was behind Yugioh in Sales? There was a huge front page article on the gym when Pkemon passed Yugioh in sales. But the question I resally am curious about is wichgame currently is more popular in terms of Organized play?
