Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Thursday Update

I hardly can't imagine POP isn't working on a "sollution" right now.

If there are so little seats left already I am sure they will try to find a way.
Even with no-shows (xx%) taken into account I can't imagine they will just say "well we did announce a max cap you are not in".
That's not the way they worked for the last years.
However they are kind of bound to the organisation or origins/space available and such.

I really hope everybody showing up tomorrow and Saturday will play.
This kind of numbers are imo worth to make the USA Nationals a "stand-alone" event.

Keeping my fingers crossed for all players who were not able/sure they could travel to Nationals and arriving next 24 hours.

I already bought a badge and everything. Hotel room booked, and I am arriving on Saturday morning. I can't imagine them, kicking people out or saying they can't play. That would just be absurd. Gas prices are up, and people already have everything booked and payed for.

Ok, quick question. I already bought my badge online and my hotel is already booked. So if I bought my badge online, am I guaranteed to play no matter what happens?

A badge is only good enough to get you into Origins, not into Nationals itself.

As for numbers, I don't have an update for you for Juniors or Seniors, but BDS announced before the 10:00am Modified tournament this morning that they had just sold ticket #500 for the Masters. And since that was a good 8 hours ago, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the Masters is already sold out.

As for the possibility of raising the cap, it's fairly clear what popular opinion is on that topic, even amongst people already here and registered. That said, only the PUI guys know if they do plan on sticking fast to that limit or not. I still believe that they will, seeing as how everybody's known about the limit since January 21st. But I guess you never know. The Pokémon area is decidedly roped off from the neighbouring WotC area, so we do have a fairly set table limit.

But I just bought my badges for Nationals only. But, if I arrive Saturday morning do you think I will still be able to register?

Ok, so I've just been told that the Origins staff lied to BDS. :p Dave tells me that the last time he checked, there were 107 spots left in the Masters. What he didn't say was WHEN he checked. So take it for what it's worth.

So, by the time I arrive Saturday morning, do you think I will still be able to register? You have been such a help so far....

I have no idea. I only get numbers updates when I get around to asking Dave, and he's had time to look. And just now was the only time that happened. :p

If I were to make an unbased guess, I would say that getting here on Saturday would be too late. It sounds like a ton of people are showing up tomorrow, so it would depend what divisions they all slot into. And then that all hinges on if they hold the limit or not, and again, only PUI has any idea if they're going to be hardline on that or not. (My second unbased guess of the post is that they will hold it.)

Fellow Pokegymers:

For some wierd reason, I was able to purchase my badge online today and register for the Master's National Championship. I do not know where people are getting numbers but as of 6 pm when I purchased my badge, there were 83 spots remaining in the masters division.

I earn a living through sales. This year's economic downturn, and increased travel costs, have decreased my income this year. We had to bail on Nats this year, and are leaving all of our hopes for a Worlds invite on a solid Grinder performance by my son. I have confidence in his deck and ability this year, but our fingers are crossed.

We do have league friends from Santa Clara, CA (Team Invasion FTW) at this year's Nats, so I have been following these threads, and will continue to do so, for word of what is happening this year.

I told my son of the likelihood that a number of players, some having booked flights and/or hotel rooms, will not be able to play in this year's Nats because of space limitations. He felt as bad as I do. In fairness to POP/PUI, the following info has been on the go-pokemon site forever:

"Registration will be limited to the first 256 Junior Division players, 256 Senior Division players, and 512 Masters Division players. You MUST register for an event ticket in your division through the Origins Game Fair website or on site at Origins to be eligible to play. Players without an event ticket will not be admitted into the event. Origins online event registration will open in late April or early May. POP will post a notice at www.go-pokemon.com/op when we are notified that Origins online registration has opened. "

Now, based on last year's numbers, some may have felt comfortable waiting to register on site, but registering (for free) for the event, when paying for an Origins Badge, was always possible.

I imagine that based on the pre-announced limits, MA will have a T-32 after 9 rounds. It will be the toughest Pokemon tournament anywhere of the year. There will be people turned away, people who go 7-2 may not make it in (only 6.24% of competitors will top cut), and the howls of outrage and sour grapes will be heard here long after the event is over.

I profoundly hope exactly 512 MA, 256 SR and 256 JR players show up on time to play and everyone is seated, I hope no one donks and every game is played out to a six prize card win within 30 minutes. I hope that everyone who does not make top cut with the same record as some who do make top cut feel that those that did make top cut deserved to make it. Okay, maybe I hoped one too many times.

I would like to see next year's Nationals split off from Origins. It is ridiculous that Pokemon players should have to pay $60-$75 to play in a free tournament. I would like to see next year's Nationals be unlimited in number of players who can participate. I would like to see a top cut that allows closer to 25% vs 6.24% or less of participants be able to play in match rounds. I would like to see enough rounds played that allow all x-2 players to make top cut. If making the US its' own continent so that Mexico and Canada are not hurt by more rounds and a bigger cut, then I hope for that too.

Okay, with hopes and wishes noted, I both hope and wish that you all have a great time this year at the US Nats.

So, I already bought my badge online, so does that mean that I am guaranteed to play then regardless?

Wait i a minute. today i finally thought all my problems where over, if i won a states and a regional and i turned in my sheets before the time, im GUARANTEED to play in the main event and enter? just too add, a passport and a birth certificate is enough to redeem my travel allowence right? thanks.

Only if you registered for the event at the time, or subsequently. The expensive badge just lets you wander around. To play for free (after buying the Origins badge), you have to register for the event.

The badge is only the first step, by itself is is expensively worthless.

I just registered on the Origins website a couple of minutes ago. Does that mean I'm in for sure other then turning in my decklist on Saturday?

So I should be in right? I did do just what POP said wich was register online at the Origins website for an event ticket.
