Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

The "did You Know?" Rules Thread

Dont try that at Regionals, Nats or Worlds. You WILL have a rude awakening. Trying to bait out a power spray when you cannot pay the cost is deceitful and can be penalized.

Last year there was a post by Pokepop which said this was possible (I even had it printed xD)

Murkrows can use Honchkrow X's attacks provided it leveled up from a dark genes honchkrow and has the energy required to use it.

Things Ditto LA does not copy:

Type (it is always normal type)
Weakness
Resistance
Retreat Cost
Poke-Powers or Bodies

Ditto also immediately reverts to 60 HP when it is Benched and has no attacks.

Something less obvious:
You don't need to put 1-2 cards under your deck if your opponent sprays Claydol (I thought you did...).

And some posts/rulings can be relooked at. When roast reveal came out in HG for Ninetales, this was discussed at length. 'Pop stated he would state at the start of his States that you could not bait out a spray with roast reveal (and download). So, that is what I did at the 2 SPTs I HJ'd. No issues at all at either tourney.

Better to warn them early than deal with harsh penalties later. At least this way, you know what to expect.

If Machamp (SF) uses Take Out vs a basic Pokemon that has Unown G attached, you can't choose to do the 40 damage instead. Since it is used on a basic Pokemon you must use effect part of the attack even though it is blocked.

If you use Ambipom G's "Tail Code" attack and declare that you're moving an Energy card to something with Unown G attached, that Energy card is discarded.

You may return a Pokémon to your deck with Pokémon Communication, and choose to "fail" the second part of the effect (getting a Pokémon out of your deck) even though it's obvious that there is at least 1 Pokémon in your deck (the card you just put back).

If a Poké-POWER such as Hippowdon LV.X's Sand Reset or Electivire FB LV.X's Energy Recycle is declared and is then Power Sprayed, as per the text on Power Spray, the Poké-POWER counts as being used, and the adverse effect of the using it (not being able to use it again, or your turn ending, respectively) still applies.

In order to affect an older card with a Pokémon Power, a newer card must affect both Poké-POWERs and Poké-BODYs. If an older card states that it affects Pokémon Powers, then it affects both Poké-POWERs and Poké-BODYs on newer cards.

That was last year.
The ruling has been updated and as Lawman states, would be dubious.

However, due to the ruling from last year, I recommend that staff announce this for those that are unaware of the change.

When your opponent KOs your Ho-Oh(SW) which has Expert Belt attached to it and you flip heads for the Poke-Power, wait...I have no idea if your opponent draws 1 or 2 prize cards! That's really a " did you know" -ruling since there's no ruling for it.

There's a Japanese FAQ for it. From memory its just one. [Now I have to go and check :D ]

[edit: here is the link for those that understand Japanese which I don't :( *tear* http://www.pokemon-card.com/faq/answer.php/faq/7001/ ]

SP Radar can get SP Lv.X's. (Evidently two of my opponents at States didn't know that, because they both asked the judge, were playing Arceus decks, seemed like n00bs, and lost.

This thread is awesome!

Thank you to everyone who's contributed so far! I had no idea you'd take the time to make this such a great resource !

___________ My 2cents _______

Baby Evolution:

More things to remember (or know!)

If you're evolving a Baby Pokemon into a Basic Pokemon:

1. It's now an EVOLVED Pokemon, so Machamp won't use TakeOut for auto KO (i'd just be 40 damage!)

2. You HAVE TO use the Baby Evolution Power to evolve it, so if you're powers are locked, you can't evolve the baby!

Personal Conduct at Tournements:

Please Remember the "TIME AND PLACE FOR EVERYTHING" adage.
I'm HUGE on SOTG and creating a 'safe' playing environment for younger children and their families.. so...
Reminder: There IS a code of conduct that you're agreeing to when you sit down to play. Anything that a 6 year old is not supposed to see or hear could get you in trouble... *just sayin'....*

If ya don't take it there, it won't go there... feel me???

Garchomp SV vs. Garchomp C (Dragon Rush)
(and Garchomp SV vs. Palkia G LvX)

Yes. You discard the energy to resolve the attack first. Then, you check to see if there's anything left to go into your hand.

TRAINERS that screw up your PokePowers!

Please don't make the mistake of using a Trainer that PREVENTS your PokePowers from occuring :(

If you're using a card like Uxie LA, Blissy Prime, Luxray GL LvX, or Gallade4 LvX, make sure you're playing them down from your hand and NOT from the deck!!

Great Ball makes you bench a card straight from the DECK, so Azelf LA, Uxie LA, Mesprit LA and many others will be no good if you used such a card to try to activate a coming-into-play power.

Level Max is unpopular for that very reason. It spoils many LvXs coming-into-play PokePowers.

So, make sure you know what you're not messing up your PokePowers with those "play down from the deck" trainers!

If you KO Gengar SF with an attack that has an effect to remove the pokemon from the field (i.e. Uxie la, Shuppet pl)
the Gengar does not flip for fainting spell (if you use said effect) but if you KO Gengar and just switch to the bench (i.e. Gengar AR Shadow Skip, Magnezone SF Gyro Ball) Gengar can use fainting spell and (if heads) will get the KO on that pokemon.

^ it's fainting spell, not feighting spell

That a Pokemon with Unown G on it that is attacked by Pachirisu (GE)'s smash shot, you cannot discard the Unwon G attached.

Something to note about Fainting Spell is that it can be blocked by an active Glaceon Lv. X or a PL Ampharos. Thus, Tyranitar/Ampharos can easily destroy Gengar with ease. Psychic Lock, Power Spray, and Psychic Bind do not stop Fainting Spell.

I didn't think that this was all that uncommon of a ruling, but I was asked about it twice at States and once at league recently, so....

If you use Garchomp C Lv. X's Dragon Rush attack, and then retreat it to the bench, the effect of not being able to use Dragon Rush again on your next turn goes away.

Good thread, RA.

^^^Dang!^^^ Did not know that, Luxchomp just became that much more amazing.
Here's a good rule if you noticed someone near you getting amazing hands everytime: you are allowed to shuffle your oppenent's deck as much as you want before the game starts, but then they will be able to cut their own deck once you are finished.

Can you explain this in more detail.

For example, a shuppet ko's a gengar and puts spritomb active
