Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Cities Medals?

Then I wonder why a lot of Pokemon Players that have played for such a long time, moved to other card games. First off Rotation, rule changes, and now the lack of medals to those who have worked hard in this game. Without any communcation to the players. What is next to happen that will cause more people to leave? I hope this gets resolved soon because it makes it rather hard to encourage those who have left to come back.

Rotation is part of the game.
Rule changes are part of the game.

If people don't like those, they are free to choose a different game.
Clearly many people accept those as part of the game, and continue to strategize and innovate new decks.

Lack of medals?

I'd posit that people who are good enough at Pokémon to win medals aren't going to play a different game because they didn't get a medal as part of winning.

(If there are people who specifically left for this reason, then I'm wrong, and I'd be curious to know who they were. But then I'd say they were an exception and not an indicator of a general trend.)

The lack of communication or timeliness in delivering medals is entirely another issue, and has been suggested before, (hopefully) just a matter of thing going awry....yes perhaps more than once. But I don't believe anyone is intentionally trying to have it happen this way. I believe the people in charge, somewhere, are doing their job to the best of their ability, given constraints and things out of their power.

A lot of Pokemon players moved on to other card games? Have you NOT seen the increasingly impressive and growing numbers of US Nats and the need for 2 day Regionals/States in these last few years? Just because you know a few people who left Pokemon doesn't mean its the general consensus, and I'm sure it WASN'T because you didn't get a medal in time.

Yes it sucks not getting one, but if that's your reason to leave a game, you weren't playing it for the right reasons to begin with anyways.

The 2 day Regionals has only started this season. And states hasn't occured yet. I was stating what I have seen so far this season not others. But I do admit last year the attendance was fairly high. But with things this year I have seen a decrease in the Pokemon player attendance so far. Yes you get to go and have fun playing and win a few packs but I don't find that enough to keep someone interested in playing.

BRs had massive attendance, thanks to Championship Points. You seeing a decrease in your area =/= an overall decrease.

But that's EXACTLY what keeps the vast majority of players playing. Only a relatively small percentage of players will ever win Medals, tophies and scholarships.

And 2 day Regionals has been around for at least the last 3 cycles. It was an idea 3 cycles ago, implemented at the largest Regionals last cycle, and now it appears to be mandatory for all Regionals.

Not true... for many Juniors and Seniors they can win a medal if they try hard considering the abundance of cities. I got my brother (a Junior) into playing only because he wanted to win a medal. As a little kid I would not have started playing this game if there were no shiny prizes. If I am putting hundreds of dollars into this game I would at least like to see some communication from the higher ups :/

Well, did you and/or your brother get your medals?

If you did, did you stop playing then?

Are you REALLY investing 'hundreds of dollars' JUST for the chance you might win another one?

Look . . . I like Prize support too. I also think it would be nice if we had official word on the delays instead of 'I heard this' or 'someone told me that'.

But I don't think anyone serious is really quitting the game over it. That would be silly.

BRA 2011-12 USA 12758 players

BRA 2010-11 USA 9823 players

BRA 2011-12 Idaho 106
BRA 2010-11 Idaho 142

Looks like Idaho is bucking the trend :(

My brother did not go to cities this year because he did not want to spend money on the game if there was nothing cool to win. That is my point.

And my point is that your brother's experience =/= the general experience.

Attendances are not falling, despite the delay (not removal, delay) of medals.

Your brother does not sound like the typical Pokemon player.

I get that, but what I'm sayin is as a whole they don't have to give us anything. They do, and then ppl start complaining when they don't have my medal, why don't they give us this promo, this card sucks ban it, where's my scholarship, put more of x cards into print because i can't pull any. My general feeling is that pokemon players are spoiled, be grateful that we get anything. Some of ya'll remind me of the kids at league who just expect to get a promo for no reason. When did it become, give me this! over, may I have this please?

I hate this attitude. We are customers of this company, no less. Customers have a right to have expectations of their vendors. The attitude that they owe their customers nothing is disgusting and it would mean the demise of the entire business unit if it infected TPCi. I don't believe this is the case, but better communication would be appreciated here.

So I take it by reading the above link, there won't be any 2nd or 3rd place "awards"?

AFAIK, there have never been special awards for anything other than 1st place at CC or smaller level events.

I still miss trophies.

Also, wouldn't it be much easier to just bring the medals to the tourneys like they used to, instead of shipping out heavy packages to hundreds of people? I don't get it.
