How to make it fair for the West Coast and everyone else next year

+All Invites should be Regionals or Nationals or LCQ.
+Dump ELO and ratings, that is my personal opinion.
+Florida is da state this year. I tip my hat to them.
+California didn't get a fair shake because of the traveling to Nats thing, there does need to be a West Coast Super Regional event if the Worlds and Grinder isn't out west.
+BR should be fun tournaments with real prizes. (Small $50 Travel Allowance to either Nats or Worlds)

Don't squish all events on the same weekend, that really doesn't solve anything if you dump ELO. I actually enjoy traveling to away tournaments, but it isn't fair if rankings are involved. Dump Rankings, problem solved.

I don't even care if we get the trip to go to worlds, just give the players who PERFORM consistently and well INVITES. the die hard players will pay for themselves if they receive invites. Top 4 at nats can get trips but top 8 can have invites..

...but then you need a system that rewards consistency. Kinda like... the ELO rating system?

There is no magic solution. If you want to get to worlds, the best thing to do is to play the system as best as you can. I still say give POP a chance

i think the #1 and #2 players in each age divison in each state should be invited to worlds

you can't do that IMO, not really fair considering some states have major competition. I don't want to mention any names or states but I will give you an example. Kansas doesn't have hardly any competiton there....It would be really unfair if there(not so good players) get 2 invited for each division. Do we want somone bad at pokemon representing US at worlds? I think NOT. I wasn't knocking on Kansas....I am sure there are some great players there but it was JUST AN EXAMPLE. Now take Florida for example. They have soo many world class players....How can you just give the top 2 players from the masters division the invite when there top 8 players in the state are probably the top 16 players in the state. I think this system that we have now isn't too bad but considering Gas prices and travel expenses have dramatically increased, I feel this system is and will be impossible to show who the truly good players are. This system is basically...the more you travel....the better chance you can go to worlds....basically if you got money to not only afford the cards but the money to travel then we want you at worlds. If you are like me somewhat struggling to get cards and travel because my fam is going through a hard time right now...this game is basically saying we don't want you!!!!(basically). There are soo many players that could qualify if they can travel. Am I good enough to go to worlds????Yes I AM....I feel I am a "solid" player who just couldn't travel....If I could travel I might of had a shot at making it to worlds.

Regionals invites are neccesary I think. Massive events, higher competiition than many nats.

I also think, to solve the problem of players being able to get to less states - SCRAP STATES entirely and make Battle Roads fewer in number and not so densely distributed. Lowering the K value of Cities is also a good idea.

I'd do away with Ratings invites altogether as well.

There is an underlying fallacy that the West Coast was somehow treated unfairly.

I don't think we feel we were treated unfairly, if you are referring to the way POP/PUI treated us in the number of tournaments that were run on the west coast. Where we feel it's more difficult and harder for us is that people don't always understand the distance we have to travel to our events. Do you realize if CA's state championships are held in SoCal (San Diego, LA) that it's a 5-6+ hour drive for the NoCal players to get there? For our regionals, it's about a 7-8 hour drive for Colorado to come here to Utah and vice versa when it is i there. Even IF there were 4 states in two weekends on the west coast, NO ONE could conceivably make it to all 4, whereas back east people do it all the time.

That's the heart of the issue. Compress states to one weekend?

Even so, you'd have to make sure adjacent states were on different days to avoid still being doubled up by back east. Could the PTOs/Venues accommodate that?

I wonder if the TX people have the same issue.

But isn't that where the major amount of Cities and BRs offset that? More CCs and BRs on the West Coast due to the huge population and places to hold them?

And no compressed states will not work. RIers will want a State Championship. NHers will want a State Championship. CTer will want a State Championship.

Nope and Yep. Houston area has more of a problem then Dallas area.

  • Invite/Trip to 1st Place in Regionals
  • Invite to second place in Regionals
  • Invite to first place in States
  • Invite to top 16 at Nationals
  • Trips to top 4 at Nationals

You can't have States in one weekend, PERIOD. States on 2 weekends is the least you can have without having some places with no states at all. I'm sure the sour grapes would be plentiful if that scenario played out.

While this leaves the location situation there, it's now and forever unavoidable. As long as it's called STATE championships this will always happen. Please end the excuses of where you live and focus on having balance elsewhere in the system. Regionals, cities, BR's should be the focus of change.

You can't have one series on the same day or weekend, cause some facilities that PTO's use could be booked for that specific day/weekend.

Agreed. My state in seniors would have me a 2002.95, and a noob at 1633. ;\
