How to make it fair for the West Coast and everyone else next year

To follow up on PokeDaddy's post......sure, I suggested breaking up NorCal and SoCal as 2 states for SC purposes, but I didnt make the same suggestion for my OWN state! We "deal" with it, as Steve so rightly points out. THe TN SC has been in Memphis since 2005 while my league is in Sevierville, TN...a good 8 hrs away! The players in my league have not had a chance to go after their own state's championship since 2004, when it was held in Nashville. We compromise by attending other state's SCs that are closer to us, ie SC and NC.

In fairness, maybe the oppo end of Cali from where the SC is held is not very close to any SC, but that is just a nature of where you live, not PUI trying to "diss" you. PUI should not take away events from other places bc "you" (general you) live too far away from many events. This is a "you" problem, not a PUI problem.

thats nice and all to say that us west coast players should step up and start holding tournaments, i.e. become professors. the first question is would you want any body running tournaments or a truly great player running tournaments?last i heard anyone running a tournament cant play in the said tournament. this would increase the amount of tournaments but decrease the amount of good players holding the better rankings. thats just one possibilty, a less pressing one, the more probable in this case would be. would a really competive player give up playing to just set up tournaments? or in other words give up playing to help others. i know this sounds mean, but i think its wrong to rob someone whos dream is to be the best. more often than not competiveness doesnt see eye to eye with fun.

I know many a PTO (or even TOs) that are mighty fine players too! So, yeah, sometimes "one" may have to "sacrifice" for the greater good of the whole.

Oh, but it's ok to put restrictions on the East Coast? Let's "rob" the East Coast of the their opportunity to play.

i am sorry if i came off harsh but you wouldnt of got what i was saying if i didnt. i for one, if i started to hold tournaments i would have to start a league first, where i live it would most likely be me my friends and many people i would have to teach how to play. that in itself is different than some places that have alot of players, but no tournaments. so for me it would be fun and all to have only my friends playing in tournaments but seriously there are alot of places that already have tournaments and it makes sense that they do. thats all i am saying is that alot of cities and towns in the west coast tend to be small and often farther apart. where i live its not uncommon to travel 40miles to get the nearest city to shop for anything. i could be wrong. i have played in few leagues where i live, i was the most experienced and knowledgable player, i more or less was called on for rulings and what not.

i guess the real question is that if i started holding tournaments would other people show up to make it worth it?

Celeni: How do you think many of the leagues start? A few friends and a brave soul willing to volunteer to run the thing. Find a location and there you go! You will be amazed at the number of people that will stop and ask you what/how to to play, once you are running/playing league.
