Someone needs to dig in and write this up comprehensively for submission to front page.

I doubt that they are not making enough money. POP is a branch of PUI (Correct me if I am wrong). And therefore, are allocated a certain budget to spend the millions upon millions that PUI get from selling Pokemon. I thinking having worlds where it is is blowing their budget badly =X

Listen people last year Worlds was in Hawai and he reduced to 64 for category because Hawai it`s expensive, i didn`t doubt in that but this year is Orlando, maybe i can pay my trip doing top 2 at Nationals or earning an invitation by rankings but we must don`t forget that Argentina did very good job in Worlds 2007 so i don`t know why OP don`t sponsored our country, i am not saying to have 4 pays trips but 1 at least. Seeya everybody!

more sales = more trips/invites. it has nothing to do with how good a job your country did at worlds. seeya!

I think they should pay the trip for some of the ranking invites. The problem by not giving all (or at least some) of the ranking invitet players a travel award will be, that not all the best players will atend at worlds..
I also think they should give out the invites after how good each country do at the latest worlds, or make a point system where a country can earn point after how good the players did at worlds.
Just a thought

I see a lot of problems with this suggestion, first and foremost, pokemon is not a team event, players compete for themselves, not countries(though some share a "national" feel, it has been very obvious that many a player has more of a "region feel" than a country feel), second, it has the potential of shutting off even more small countries, and giving benefit to the larger ones, i mean, this year we had different results, but with the current structure, USA will most likely flood the LCQ, and have many more players than anyone else on the world, Japan will have a significant number above other countries as well, and they will most likely come on top of it because of their quaality of players and extra fueled by their sheer numbers, so a system like that would benefit the US and japan more than the smaller places with little representation.

I personally dont see the reasoning to support more a country because they do better at worlds, i just dont see the direct correlation between doing good at worlds and having more support; as a matter of fact, and following a true to NFL philosophy, the countries that should get more support are the ones doing worst at worlds, so to even the field, whats the point in improving the best while the level on other countries need more support? if anything, the countries doing worst are the ones needing a boost to improve their quality of players, not the other way around; and frankly, thats truly hard since this countries tend to have very little sales, so that makes the whole idea unviable.

It sounds like a horrible idea to me. The US sends the most players. The US has the biggest chance for their players to do well. Odds are that the US would get most if not all the points and thus be able to send more (or force other countries to send less). Rinse and repeat.

Sorry, but it's a GREAT idea for the US players that just want Worlds to be a bigger US Nats, but it's a bad idea for everyone else. :/

US players deserve to have a legitimate shot at worlds. The odds last year for anyone from America to make it to Worlds was ridiculous. Everyone can attend US Nationals, they are completely different things.

US players deserve to have a legitmate shot at worlds? Don't they have Nationals? Don't they have rating invites? What isn't legitimate about those? Every other country in the world has the same ways to get to Worlds. What is unfair about it?

We have way more people. Many states have more players than most countries represented at worlds. The good Canadian players, the good Mexican players, had a better chance of making worlds than the good US players. Smaller countries, even easier. Some of the countries represented had 10 person nationals. You can't compare that to 400+, and the slightly higher number of US invites last year than other countries didn't nearly cover the gap of the US compared to the rest of the world in # of players. This year looks better.

I actually dont share that view, had it not been for an almost flawless BR run last year, neither Pablo nor Kenta would have had a trip to worlds last year, and only 2 mexicans gained access through the ranking system; Pablo won an US regionals and came second on the other one, and he could have very well missed the trip if not for his last couple of BR victories, I cant speak for canada, but Mexico's national is not so far from USA in the masters, last year we had circa 250 on the masters, and I can guarantee it was not a walk on the park. and even with Pablo's great season, he had to wait for combinations from the US nationals, so no, I dont really think mexicans players have it any easier.

The US will never get a correct ratio of population/invites. That will never happen. Can you not be happy that our country gets 15-20 times what most other countries get? Oh, all my friends can't participate! BOO HOO. Get over it. Seriously. Play better next year and maybe earn an invite to play in a tournament that isn't EASY to get into.

Worlds isn't about you, or me, or Ives. It's about players from around the world coming together to play the only WORLD championship.

Be happy that Worlds is in our backyard this year. It's fairly cheap to fly/drive to Worlds and stay at the hilton (compared to what everyone else has to pay). We get to go and hang out and see all our friends even if we don't get an invite. I don't know about you, but I am excited about Worlds invite or not.

Probably the best post so far on this thread, I couldnt have phrased it better.

I think you are right but well Pidgeotto says others things, if a player of SouthAmerica or an small country win one time his teory will go down very fast, so hope than all the big invitations countrys get the first positions, seeya all the people in Orlando. Bye!

My point isn't even about the US having better players or anything, we just have a lot more. 4 nats invites clearly wasn't proportional for a 400 person nats, when some nats had 1 in 10 getting in. Not to mention that the US is bigger than most countries, and had an even larger number of people not even coming to nats.
I'm not sure exactly what Prime's last post means at all. It would seem like everyone in the world should have an equal chance to making worlds, and that would mean making the US ratio similar to other countries. Don't keep saying 'the US gets way more than all these other countries!", look at it individually. In many cases a US state=another country. You can't possibly compare the US to any one other country under PUI in terms of how players are competing here.
