This looks good.

4 invites for Nationals is back, and 20 ranking invites is very good too, seeing I was in T10 all last year, even though i won nats :p

I think 2008 will be a VERY good Worlds.

This is the link for anyone who wants to see it at the official site:

This is amazing news. Top 4 invites at Nats back AND Top 20 in the Premier Ratings for Europe. Sounds GOOOOOD! :D

I do wonder how they decided on the number of invites per country. I mean, 8 for USA makes sense, but why the difference between 2/3/4 invites for Europe?

Denmark/Sweden 2 per age group, Finland/UK 3 per age group, Netherlands/France 4 per age group. I wonder how they decide that?

But oh wow, we went from 4 to 20 invites for the ratings. I am so thrilled with this news :D

I was excited to hear 2 invites per age division at Australian Nationals. I mean, yay! We get 2 representatives per age group!

But my excitement was drowned away once I heard that only the 1st place winners get Travel Awards...
I doubt there are many people here would be willing to pay upwards of $7,000AUD to go there...:(

Oh well. Exciting news. Thanks for the post. Looks like it is going to be a WORLD Championship this year, rather than a America VS America VS a few random foreigners.

He just mneans that there will be alot more foreign players at worlds than before(2006 and backwards :p)

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Let me rephrase my comment.

Looks like it is going to be a WORLD Championship rather than just America VS America VS a few Japanese VS a handful of Foreigners stretched around the globe but most did not attend cause of the real long flights... *takes a breath*

I cannot read that page correctly, don't see which country will get a paid trip and which on doesn't.
But if I understand correct, it's up the LD to ADD some trips?

Rainbowgym: I had the exact same problem when I was at university today, so naturally I hurried home, excited to see if Norway would get a paid trip or not. XD

Are you using Internet Exploder? It seems to me that the problem with the university computer was that it had IE instead of a proper web browser.

LDs may add trips, travel awards, or nothing. It will be interesting to watch the LDs decisions, not that we can do anything about such decisions which have to make sense from a commercial point of view.

Many many of you asked for more invites to Worlds, even if it was without travel awards. Now you have it.....lets see how the numbers work out. I think PUI/POP is trying to give us a mix, to reward the Nat Champs w/ trips from many areas, and then invites only for many others. I recall in 2004, when the WC was last in FL (1st year for PUI also), there were some travel awards with invites, but most invites were w/o travel. I know, bc my then 9 yr old son won an invite w/o travel at the Eastern Regional (back when there were just 3!!) in Rockville MD. We did not go to Worlds that year bc I didnt have the time to coordinate the trip with work, plus having to pay the whole way. That was the year that sooo many JRs didnt show up to claim their invites, that ALL the LCQ JRs were invited into Worlds. There were also 30+ SRs and 20+ MAs invited to WC from the LCQ (if memeory serves me correctly). That is why there was an outcry at the LCQ in 2005 in San Diego when only T8 made it from MA.

You asked for it, now show your support and GO to the WCs if you win that invite!!

How can it be a WORLD Championship if half the players outside the US that get invited can't afford to attend? If anything, this year will be more like the previous years.

Prime: Many Euro players have said they would attend IF they had an invite w/o trip. As they say in "Field of Dreams"....."If you build it, they will come" (Now, it will be time to put their money where their mouth is  )

Well, I hope they do, but if people in the US can't afford to make it, what are the odds of people outside the US making it?

Yes I use explorer and the page shows up so weird, it's not really arranged and difficult to figure out which countries do get POP travel award and which not etc.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

I don't think all unclaimed invites will be added to the grinder, don't count on that it's not going to happen that way.
So it's not going to be as previous years.
Possible more players show up from invites inside the NA region, but with growing interest in Europe I think there will be also invites used from outside NA regions.

I guarantee you that the invites not claimed will be given to the grinder. The tournament has to have 128 in each age group so they can have the right number of rounds and top cut. If 20 people in masters don't show up, they aren't going to just run the tournament with 108 masters playing.

I'm going to guess and say that 30-40% of the international players that get an un-paid invite will not attend Worlds. I might be on the low end too, but I'm just guessing. Those invites go into the grinder the the US gets them. Why the US? Because Worlds is in their backyard. So the grinder is going to be filled with US players. So the US gets 30-40% of the international players invites and Worlds ends up being just like it was in 2006, with 50% americans and 50% the rest of the world.

But I am sure there are many US players that prefer it this way. Oh well.
