Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

2009 - 2010 League Cycle - UXIE AND CLAYDOL

As a league leader, I am split about this. I think half my kids will love the chance to get tournament-heavy cards that help their decks. On the other hand, I think some of the younger and casual players will miss the badges and POP packs. I expect to have an increase in competitive players (great) but an overall drop in league attendance. We shall see. I think the whole Nintendo DS skin idea is great and will not only increase the casual players who might have dropped otherwise, but also hope it serves as an incentive for kids to finally get My Pokemon accounts.

Which kid seriously wants those PoP packs? The kids at my league are totally uncompepetitive but even hey notice theres something wrong when they get another pair of piplus and pichus :/

It sounds like a good idea. However in the league I attend, attendence is almost too much (not enough room for everybody some people actually play on the floor which is kind of dangerous). Plus sometimes it seems that the people playing (especially little kids) play their friends (and then either let their friend win via forfiet or the friend lets them win via forfiet), that way they get their packs/badges way quick.

Of course due to work, I can not attend every week, so I am still stuck on the 3rd/4th Badge.
A question is in order about that: If you are stuck on a badge, do you just keep playing for badges, or do you switch to the next season? I ask this cause they usually have a mess of leftover stuff after the season ends.

Our league in particular, gives people an opportunity to earn the old badges along with the new one they are working toward. For those who can't attend all the time, this is a nice way to help them earn older badges. Also double points on scorecards is helpful too.

Saving money? I would consider that....

Oh, and I know a bunch of people who don't even bother getting their league cards marked just because they don't care about the badges and POP packs (They actually did until they were just reprint packs). I have a feeling they're going to changed their ways.

That's how I've been doing it! :p

Is it possible to expand play to multiple days or perhaps incorporate a kind of "sister" league in another nearby venue?

The Trainer Challenge cycle is focused on rewarding participation and does not recognize wins or losses.

I'm super excited about the cards...mainly because it an uxie, and it's a good card to have...but the newer players love getting their first badges!

Without knowing to much about the game
Badges>promo cards

And will this promo card be stamped? because marked cards are now banned...

I'm pretty sure if the cards have an kind of official logo stamped on them that doesn't count as being marked. That just wouldn't be right.

I would personally consider marked cards by anything drawn on the card after the print.

Biggie? Really?

HEHEHEHE.

Yeah well my favorite forum handle BigIrishGod is kinda long, so for the past few years I've used Biggie. :thumb:
When I worked with a company called Privateer Press it was practically my name. Don't worry though; you can just call me Dan. ;)

This is also how the league instructions specify it should be done:

Stamps earned during the current season are awarded to players on a one-for-one basis for each previous season, until that player earns his or her prizes for that previous season, or until you run out of supplies.

So whats it guna take to earn one of these promos? Is it guna be the same way? get points for each battle until you reach your goal? It would be cool if they made like a check list instead......win 1 battle with an all grass deck, beat 3 opponents without giving a prize, win 1 battle without using any supporters.......That would be challenging!!!

Based on the League document I've seen, it appears that the Videogames will play a part in whether you can earn all of your Promo cards.

Wow, this is very exciting, I can't wait! I was wonder what PCi was going to do, since they used up gym badges and energy badges, but this is unbelievable. They didn't have to give us Uxie, they could've given us any other card, such as those one thousand times reprinted starters! Imagine another Chimchar!

I like chimchar, lol. but I'm glad to see something new for the leagues and hopefully we'll see more league attendance (which has been an issue in my area).

Is it true POP packs are leaving? :(

On a side note, yeah Uxie!! I might just shut up about the POP packs, but I'd still like confirmation :p

Is there still going to be POP packs? I really like them just cause you always get excited whats in them  Also what snorlax is it going to be?

1) no clue on the snorlax as far as I've been able to gather - maybe a new one?

2) according to the order forms - no POP packs this season, or atleast for the Rival Cycle....guess we won't know until much later.

I just placed the order for my league and assuming that no one else puts up the info, I'll post it gladly (unless the mods/admin's prefer not to do so) when I receive the goodies.

I'm the only LL in Austin, and while I would love another venue or a second league day, I don't have the time (I'm working part time and am a full time student teacher) and have so far not had anyone interested in starting another league. If anyone wanted to do that, I would support them as best I could, because Austin really does need another league.

Foil Uxie sounds really nice, I hope it will be the LA one. ^^

Too bad I don't have a league near my home yet. =(
You know, you could apply to become a league leader. That's what I did and I started up a league around Fighting season, and slowly but surely I got more players :D

If you and your friends would like to join a Pokémon League but there are no existing leagues nearby, don’t let that stop you! As long as you have that safe public location and someone is willing to take the job of League Leader, you can start your own league! Begin by reading our Pokémon League instructions document, and then fill out an application here:

http://www.op.pokemon-tcg.com/league/application/
I would be very interested in quantifying the increase of LL applications as a result of this League prize structure. I would offer that there are at least two (2) distinct time frames to view these data.
1. Now, or at least when the full cycle of cards are revealed over the next few weeks (?)
2. After the first cycle has commenced and players are spreading the word of just how helpful and effective this is.
I will say this again, this move is absolutely brilliant. I belong to several leagues and run one of them. The turnout at all these leagues is fairly substantial.
  • When the "leaguers" hear that they are going to be able to earn actual playable cards, they will be very motivated to maintain their league attendance.
  • Additionally, the fringe players will see this and will, in all probability, want to become more active in league.
  • For the seasoned players, this is very alluring. More than one of the previous posters have mentioned that they are going to league now (or more often).
  • For the elite out there, who knows what you will say or do, you're elite.
I think a graphic of this year's league attendance versus the previous three (3) year's attendance would be very telling. I guess we will have to wait a year to see that though.

Bottom line: Grow the game.
League is the grass roots area to grow the game. More folks at league equates to more players playing in Premier Events. More players in Premier Events, the more return on investment the OP division of TPCi can portray. More ROI, the enabler for OP management to expand the game and potentially it's rewards. Bringing the VG into the league fold is just the icing on the cake.

I am involved in my company with five year plans. I am sure that the OP division of TPCi is not immune to these business analyses. I see this move as another step in the evolution and growing of this game that smart management and effective public relations brings.

As I said, brilliant. Kudos to the OP Division of TPCi.

This Uxie is being made like this just to distract us from how stupid and crazy Heart Gold and Soul Silver sets are going to be.... Check out Pokebeach if you haven't already. -_-
