Not true. Supporters are subclasses of trainers again >.<

Anyway, today's COTD is Professor Juniper from the Black & White expansion. Its effect is simple, discarding your hand and drawing 7 cards. Anyone remember the old Professor Oak? It's back , with a one card improvement, but as a Supporter :frown:. However, you should definitely play 3-4 of this card in G-Dos.

Modified: 8/10- Awesome draw power is awesome
Limited: 10/10- Awesomer draw power is awesomer :biggrin:
Unlimited: 3/10- Why play this when you can play Oak?

Vileplume or Spiritomb would not block the play of this.
For new cards, they only block "Trainer-Item" cards.
Check out the document about the Rules Changes that Pokemon put out.

9/10.

Been playtesting it with just a couple in my decks. Get all the useful stuff out of your hand and THEN use it. I would never run a lot of them (other than gyaridos) but it has a place in every deck. I don't give it a 10/10 because in some situations it's the only thing you can do but you can't use it because you'd lose if the contents of your hand were all discarded. Also, Juniper is not hot, so... you're silly.

9/10
Great for discarding cards for Gyarados, then draw a fresh hand, this will definitely be the draw power for next format.

Juniper is kay, not hot. >.<

I give this card a 6 out of 10. +7 for each card drawn, then -1 for discarding as i don't play Gyarados and nor do the majority of players I know.

Hm, Professor Juniper, the ONLY Supporter from Black and White. Discarding your hand and drawing 7 is pretty good, especially if you can get your hand down to maybe one or two cards you don't need. Also can help you get rid of trainers if you're playing against Vilegar, helps Gyarados out, and can slightly help against Lostgar.

Overall:
Modified: 9/10 Good effect that can be utilized in numerous decks.
Limited: 10/10 Pretty much ANY draw power is good here.
Unlimited: 4/10 There are some better draw cards out there but it's not totally worthless.

Today's CotD is Professor Juniper from BW, or as some of us older players think of it as, Professor Oak in Supporter form. Which is literally what it is; being able to discard your hand for a fresh new set of 7 cards. Now granted, times have changed since Base (ie, you don't want to mill your hand continually for more cards), but certainly a few copies of this in most decks (and maxed in the ones that rely on cards in the discard) is the way to go, as this card is an immediate game changer if you play it at the right time.

Modified - 9/10 (Easily one of the best Supporters to have on hand now and for the foreseeable future)
Limited - 10/10 (Probably the best draw card you'll get from this set, unless you're unlucky enough to be holding a needed evolution you don't have a spare of)
Unlimited - 5/10 (Well in theory it gives you another Professor Oak...in reality, Professor Oak is far more superior most of the time since it's a Trainer, but still not bad to have a few of these in case you're up against a Trainer Lock that normally cuts off your Oak)

5/10 Since if you play 4 of these cards you might deck out. On the other hand I will be playing one or two in my deck in hope of my opponent has a smeargle active and I want to discard his hand by me holding on to the Juniper and no other supporter.

I would, but I'm 690 miles from my house right now, in Florida .

Excellent for dumping away trainers vs. Trainer lock AND, then, drawing into useful cards.

Great for getting read of extra starters and stadiums AND, then, drawing into useful cards.

7/10. Fantastic card, but that discard can force you into some really risky play as well.

or more trainers ;p

A lot of people seem to be speaking of discarding their hands as a drawback, whereas I see otherwise. In certain situations, it's certainly beneficial to have a hand refresh while shuffling cards back into the deck. PONT and Copycat are still in the format, so that shouldn't be a problem.

But having a reliable way to get a hand refresh and be guaranteed to see seven new cards can be a huge advantage for some decks. With SP being in the format for a couple years, we're used to playing single copies of cards in decks because they can be searched for easily, so discarding your hand can be a disadvantage.

Discarding your whole hand can actually be an advantage for some haymaker builds (I'm thinking Turbo Zekrom, Donphan, etc.) that we'll be experimenting with over the next couple months. Multiple copies of the cards will be played, so losing 1 copy wouldn't be gamebreaking, since there are a variety of reliable options to get cards back from the discard pile (Junk Arm, VS Seeker, Pokemon Rescue, Energy Retrieval).

The guarantee of seeing 7 new cards can be a tremendous advantage when you're looking for that one card that can turn around the tide of a game—say, a PlusPower or likely-to-be-coming Pokemon Catcher.

In short, we still have the option to shuffle and draw in this format (PONT, Copycat). Juniper gives players more possibilities to work with. I think a lot of players who started playing after the era of Professor Oak will come to love the "discard and draw 7" that was so critical at one point of the game.

9/10
(It's no Oak, but for Modified format, it's pretty darn close.)

We finally have a reliable way to get back trainers from the discard pile (Junk Arm) but we lost one of the best supporters to get back Pokemon (Palmer's Contribution). We still have ways to get back energy (Fisherman, etc) so I think it's a toss up.

Personally, I would be weary of discarding my whole hand multiple times in a game, but I could see a single one being used in decks, perhaps even 2, just for those times when you need a brand new big hand and you need it now.
