BW continues its (annoying) rename-for-the-same-effect theme with Super Rod. The original Super Rod was a Neo Genesis reject trainer card that did something quite different (Pokepedia will give you the card's text). This new and improved Super Rod reflects Night Maintenance, and Nightly Garbage Run before that.
The only real difference between the two is already addressed by those above me. You can choose to take less with Night Maintenance.
What will impact the ratings is how they performed in their tournament formats. NM had Palmer's Contribution while SR has Flower Shop Lady. Both allowed NM / SR in combination with Supporter search to grab what you chose. The major thing is that the current Modified in which SR is played has workable trainer lock. At the time of this review, Vileplume is still a reality eventhough Gothitelle appears to have fallen from popularity (at least in my area). Pokemon Communication allows you to combo with FSL if you do not face trainer lock, and I prefer that. At least Pokemon+energy can get back into your deck. If you put Super Rod in your deck and run into a Vileplume, you can't recover anything at all.
For comparison, these ratings consider strictly recoverly going back into the deck.
Modified - Super Rod: 7/10 due to trainer lock, I prefer FSL.
HP-AR Modified - Night Maintenance: 10/10 . So many Powers that do searches and draws (Evolutionary Call, Invitation, Cosmic Power), the Trainer vs Supporter (Palmer's Contribution) drawbacks do not hold this card back.
Full unlimited - Super Rod and Night Maintenance: 10/10 tie . Again, so many Powers that do searches and draws (Quick Search, Smooth Over + Swing Dance), the Trainer vs Supporter (Town Volunteers) drawbacks do not hold these cards back. Nightly Garbage Run gets a 10+ for being a Rocket's Secret Machine, making it playable with cards that specify that subclass. On the low end of the rating is Time Capsule, I'll call it a 4.5.
What's next, Oak vs Juniper? That actually doesn't sound like a bad idea. It isn't as obvious as one may think.
