Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

any one know how to beat empoleon?

personally I like electrode. Free retreat and can hit for 90. with the plus thirty weakness and a Pluspower or strength charm you KO another empoleon.

Just for newbie-friendly reference, Electrode can do 100 for 2, but using a Double Rainbow Energy wil, of course, reduce that damage to 90.

Lightning rundown. Ampharos is a good contender. Heck, even teching in a well placed MD Raichu or Manectric can help.

Yeh, um playing a card to tech against a deck you may or may not face is never a good idea. Even more so if there is no positive that you will face it.

I play an Electivire deck, which runs with a MAnectric and Blissey. This deck so far has won every Emoleon deck I have came across!

Yeh, that is a good idea, except for the fact that you now lose badly to GG.

Good ol' Electric Pokemon and Electric Pokemon Combos

Way to be helpful, because everyone didnt already mention that above you. I mean seriously, anyone could of said that, but most actually gave some type of idea of what to use not just a type that was obvious.

dugtiro CG.......

Doesn't work. I played against GG 6 times at my Denville BR. I went 5-1 against it. 5 of them (same were the same player) I won and they had Dugtrio in the deck. I just think that Dugtrio is OVERRATED for the Empoleon Matchup.

Electrode OHKO's itself and then doesnt even KO Empoleon without DMG on it. So your trading 1 for 1 and pretty much giving your opponent a free shot at your pokemon. That sounds like a brillant idea.

I think the best way to beat it is to just play smart. If you make mistakes your going to have problems with Empoelon. There isnt one way to beat Empoleon. I think it is in the same boat as GG. You dont go out of your way to tech against it. You play a deck that you feel comfortable with and you feel can beat it.

has empo really come to this? Come on guys, I mean it's a GOOD deck, but not some "OMGWTFBBQ HOW DO I WIN" deck. There are plenty of ways to beat it, you just have to play smart.

Well, it is kind of obvious, just find the right Electric Pokemon and use it. I didn't know he was looking for SPECIFIC combos, any Electric Pokemon that hits big will do good, no one electric pokemon beats Empoleon ya know

ya i decided to keep my emp deck n put in some of this poketool that shuts uoff poke vodie n powers itwould help with me tehe byut thanks guys

If you read what he said.....he said that he'd be facing a lot of emp decks. Hence the reason I said Amphy would be good.

When I ran Empoleon (probably re-run it later) Amharos REALLY scr#wed me over, with the whole supporter thing plus my friend uses more then one, and you can't one hit KO the thing, then again it may be because I never got it out fast enough

for a second there I thought you were calling me a noob. I was like Whoa there buddy. haha. Good of you to help the new pokemasters.

Such a noob ;) Only been playing for like seven years.

Gosh john, I see your name on the boards and everytime I do I have to look at what you said. It just warms my heart to know their are other people who post the smart alick comments on the boards, and not just me! haha.

I don't know if you will find this helpful or not, but I am going to say it anyway as I play Empoleon and I know some stuff about it.

Empoleon is a pretty quick deck. With the right build T2 Emp is very much achievable, T3 even more so. When you are against a Pokemon on T2 with 130HP and an attack that does 30 damage to 2 of your Pokemon then you are in a bit of trouble if you haven't set up well and only have a few basics out.

At league yesterday I battled an Electivire/Ampharos deck twice and won both times. The first time was pretty quick and I donked his basics, the 2nd match went on for ages. With only 1 prize left I eventually managed to take out one of his benched basics with Dual stream, although it could have gone either way. In fairness, the guy who battled has only been playing for 6-8 months or so, however he beat me at states and is definitely no pushover.

The 2 things I would recommend are:

1. A well built electric deck.
2. A grass deck with water resistance (Leafeon, Torterra etc.)
3. Something like T2 Beedrill to outspeed them

Ampharos is far and away the best against Empoleon. It has the most HP of any Lightning, it damages when they use supporters and it does bench damage.
