I fully agree with the original poster. If you're playing for anything other than pure simple fun, take your act to MAGIC! Winning is overrated. What fun is winning if you cant even use your favorite Pokemon in decks! I've been using Shiftry/Blastoise/Venusaur ALL season, and I'm having the time of my life. Sure, I'm losing every single game, and failing to qualify for worlds, but at least I'm having fun, unlike those idiots who use Gardy/Gallade every tournament. One time I was playing against the World Champion Jason Klaczynski, and got crushed by his Gardy deck. After the match I smiled and said "good game Ness!" as I was scooping up my beloved Venusaur, and his response was "yeah...". I could tell he was extremely unhappy because he wasnt using his favorite cards, the poor guy. He went on to win the tournament, putting him in top 10 in ratings, giving him Nats hotel/trip, and a 1500$ scholarship, but when he accepted his award, he looked kinda sad! I wouldnt trade my Venusaurs/Shiftrys/Blastoises away for 1000 nats trips, 10000 rating points, or a MILLION dollars, and I'm a happier person because of it!

UP WITH FUN! DOWN WITH PLAYING TO WIN! LOSING CAN BE JUST AS FUN SOMETIMES (if not ALWAYS!).

PS: Can someone take a look at my Charizard deck and tell me if it's ok? Plz don't tell me to add supporters or trainers, because those cards arent as fun as Pokemon.

I agree, but you have find something you like and you feel is a decent deck. I dont like playing GG as it is everywhere, so I decide for my second states to play Banette which was lots of fun. I ended up winning the event. The year before, I played Lati@s and got 2nd at the same states after playing MSN which wasnt all that fun since it was inconsistent. The 2 decks I played to T2 States were considered rogue at the time and winning with them was a lot of fun.

We all feel sad when we win something using girl pokemon....

I happen to have Gardevoir as my favorite Pokemon, yet I hate playing archetypes. Now THAT sucks.

On the other hand if I just went with a theme deck I would not have any fun.
ewwwwwwwwww.... Preconstructed deck in a Premier event. That would be so not fun...

People keep mentioning "pros" lacking SotG... but from what I've learned it's pretty much the opposite.
I can't speak for the rest of the world, but in SoMD, I know the stereotypes are false. Most of our bad sportsmanship comes from people at the bottom. At one of our Prereleases or Premier Events, Table 1 is usually the nicest place to be.

Lessee.

Ah, here.

Intro to the Orange League Seasons.

"So you wanna be a master of
POKEMON
Understand the secrets and
HAVE SOME FUN"

Think that sums it all up.
And what about the Japanese 2nd Opening Theme from Pokemon?

Rival! said:
Let's Battle!
Roar, Splash, Fly
Tri-Attack, Mega Punch!
Sing, Rest, Psychic
Skull Bash, Thuderbolt!
Win or lose, I'll celebrate
Let's battle, a Pokemon battle!
It's so disappointing to lose
That I'm trembling, but,
My clenched fist loosens
I wipe the sweat on my jeans and shake hands!

Isn't the flow of time mysterious?
"Do you remember who won?"
Now, look!
I can talk as I laugh
"Let's forget it," said while playing dumb
Those are my rivals
Double-edge, Karate chop
Aurora beam, Hydro Pump!
Leer, Metronome
Razor leaf, Quick attack!
Win or lose, I'll celebrate
Let's battle, a Pokemon battle!
I'm so happy to win
I want to cry, but
Both winning and losing are important

There must be something to it!
Rivals are something amusing
"You still have a ways to go before you're grown!"
You see, look!
Because the road we've chosen is the same
"I won't lose!" With these words
We can talk of our identical dreams
The bud that is our dreams
Hasn't changed, but
Little by little it'll bloom...
I can feel it

It is.

It also is usually away from the juniors. (not saying anything bad about juniors, they just have a tendency to be loud )

Now, now, come on. If I remember correctly, as far as I know, everyone was a junior at one time or another - even if we may not have been a junior at pokemon. LOL.

winning is fun? yes, it is.
But actually i might say winning is not fun for me anymore. During this season i played like crazy almost all tourneys i could. At some point i felt like a T-800 (terminator) doing some kind of mission.
Play, win, shake hands, "GG and GL".
Dont get me wrong, i dont want to mean i'm too good, but after some point the victories seems meaningless.
Honestly only winning nats again or T16 at worlds would gimme a rush.

The only tournaments that I've been able to go to this year were the city championship in Overland Park and the Iowa state tournament. Obviously, I played to win because I wouldn't travel far if I were expecting to lose.

I ended up winning the city championship and not doing very well in the states, but for the latter I had fun seeing some decks that I had never seen before. I just enjoy playing the game, but I do want to win. I refuse to break down if I do poorly in an event, because I know that it is just a game.

Hey Noah! I enjoyed our T4 match at O.P., it was the first T4 I made! I had a blast even though you
cooked me twice. I was inspired to try my own K/Q combo in Oklahoma later but failed miserably.
I was looking for ya at KS for a rematch, sorry I missed ya. See ya in Lincoln, or Wichita, or somewhere
in between...don't let your math skills slip though, I've been working on mine. e^(ipi)+1=0, rite?

Yes, e^((i)(pi))=-1 (or equivalently what you had.)

Yeah, I find that even dropping out of a tournament because of a bad start is a poor move. It shows that you don't really play to enjoy the game. Whenever I do bad, I don't drop out because I actually love playing.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

As for SoTG, I would argue that JUNIORS to me actually demonstrate the worst, not older players. Kids scream and yell all the time at losing any game, not just this one. I remember a few weeks ago some kid at my league forgot to do the gym challenge and then was screaming and yelling "I HATE YOU GET OUT OF MY LIFE I DONT CARE ABOUT YOU AT ALL GO DIE" to his opponent. I'm not making a statement, as there are many juniors that I play and respect judgement on at tournaments, but I think they are more prone to fits.
...however, when Masters and Seniors DO flip out, they are the worst to deal with.

and what did the league leader do after the kid had his outburst? if the answer is 'nothing' then that's the problem right there...
