Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Benelux cup report

Paid for by the distributors for the Benelux countries ergo top prizes and top table goes to them - see my post on European Cup - it's who pays the piper plays the tune..

Oh really? My bad lol, there is also a really good player from Germany named Karl (I don't know his lastname).

Karl P., top cutted worlds with 6-1 in 2008.

And, congratulations to Matijs, your deck is awesome. Good job showing all the donk decks that there's still point in playing something that actually goes beoynd the first 3 turns can win tournaments in our speedy environment. Props!

You are effectively running a straight swiss event with no top cut and then a best of Benelux event for the highest placed Benelux player - it would be the same as running an Open Nationals but limiting the trips and top prizes to the local players.

I see nothing wrong with the people paying for the event making some restrictions on the top prizes/playoff - after all they paid for it and they could always not bother or make the event closed to players from outside the Benelux Countries..

Remember OP is about marketing they will want to market the game to their customers.

Thanks a lot Tomi:wink:

Indeed Dusknoir isn't dead, people still underestimate decks like Dusknoir in this DONK deck environment.

Really good job Matijs, :thumb:

btw did you play any Uxies or only 2-2 Claydol ? And what about other techs like Cresselia Lv.x ?..

Congrats to your win ^^

I didn't expect Dusknoir to do still so well.

We (from Germany) tried to find a way to the Benelux Cup, but there wasn't any possibility but standard train tickets which would have been too expensive. =(

Before strange idea's and interpretations occur:
The BeNeLux Cup is an open International Special Premier Event. Actually it is a tournament with rating (K-32) existing of Swiss rounds only.

For fun:thumb: there is a follow up at the end between the best Belgian/Luxembourgian players at one hand against the best Dutch players at the other hand, selected on basis of the results of the rated part of the BeNeLux Cup earlier that day. This part is not rated (!), only intended for fun as a BeNeLux battle for residents of the BeNeLux countries. Thus, in fact it has nothing to do with the sanctioned tournament, and the results of this fun tournament are not sanctioned nor reported either. This is also advertised on the Dutch OP site of Pokémon. On the POPsite of the USA a link to this site is given.

The name BeNeLux Cup has its roots in the fact that it is held in the BeNeLux countries. It is organised in odd years (2007, 2009) in Belgium and in even years in The Netherlands (2006, 2008). Initially it started in 2006 as a tournament for Dutch, Belgian and Luxembourgian players only, but since 2008 for residents of the International community joined in as participants also. In 2008 there were next to Dutch and Belgian players several German and Danish players. This year residents of the Netherlands, Belgium, the UK, France and Italy joined the tournament.

Congrats on a well run event [second hand]

Second hand information but worth passing on anyway. The reports I heard from the UK players were very positive.

"Best run and staffed event they had been too in ages and ages".

"Will go to more events in Europe"

 Well Done!

Thanks everyone:wink:

Shadowguard:
I know what you mean, by train is just too expensive and almost impossible to get in time.

I played 2-2 claydol and 1 uxie. No techs like Cresselia LV X.

Maybe I'll post a decklist later.

And indeed, this was a very good organized event!

Please PM me if you wanna know more about the deck.

But I cannot guarantee that I'll tell a lot more about the deck.

Hey Matijs ! Congrats again for your win !

Saying we "had crappy starts" is too nice, you're allowed to say I played like a dog against you :D
You maked no mistakes, and so deserved your win.

I'll hopefully see you soon !

Mathieu

This event seems sort of... bleh. The fact that outside players can't do top cut... is sort of bad. They can't get rating points. Shouldn't a 6-0 player be allowed to possibly win?
