Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Best/Favorite Anime?? (Spoilers for Everything)

trainerjeff, you should remove that link. While we're free to discuss things we may have gotten less than legally, we're not able to discuss how to get them illegally.

I second that P_C. We should not advertise illegal downloading here.

But, I also agree with trainerjeff about branching out gash. I originally started watching Naruto, and I said to myself: "I won't watch any other anime, they just suck the life out of you and take too much time." Needless to say I'm extremely happy I exposed myself to other anime. There are so many good stories out there it almost pains me to hear that someone likes anime, but has never seen them before. I'd recommend FullMetal Alchemist as a great one for starting to broaden your horizons towards a greater appreciation of anime, because it still has many shonen-esque features, while being slightly darker and having great plot depth.

I'd personally suggest the new Fullmetal Alchemist. It's kind of rushed in the beginning, but well animated and follows the manga.

I think it may be fairy overlooked, but Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad is amazing. The music in it is great. If you haven't seen it, it is worth checking out.

What I really have grown to miss is the old cartoon network and adult swim; for a long time, they were my main link to the different animes. I remember secretly staying up on weekends as a kid just to catch Trigun or Cowboy Bebop late at night, or coming home from school and catching Gundam. Nowdays, you have crud like Family Guy and whatever other lame series they have clogging it. Saturday has Bleach and a few other ones, but they take forever to release anything new, and it's far more convenient to catch a fan sub (or if you're me, read the manga translations).

Regis, you made me remember how much I miss seeing Kenshin on Saturday Night (the BEST BLOCK EVER AFAIC). Yes, it was stupid, and yes, it was completely unrealistic. But it was FUN!!!

Yeah, Cartoon Network's fallen quite a bit since the good ol' days. Outlaw Star, Ruroni Kenshin, .Dot//HackSign, and others... Ah, how I miss them.

On a slightly non-anime note, they don't even show anything good that isn't Anime anymore. Shows like Freakazoid! and Swat Katz were amazing and loved by so many fans... But they were eventually removed, for reasons I can't really comprehend.

I miss Toonami. Back in the day, when it aired during the week from 3-5ish, my brother and I would sneak in the occasional YuYu Hakusho and Rurouni Kenshin episode (since they aired back-to-back). This probably was my first initiation into anime, and I was saddened when they moved Toonami to Saturday nights, effectively eliminating my opportunities to continue to watch the shows.

I was saddened when they moved Toonami to Saturday nights because they eliminated the best block I've ever seen, aptly named "Saturday Night". Not to mention the junk they replaced Toonami with later...

Hakusho was amazing. Just never EVER read the Manga past the Shinsui arc.

This Toonami buisiness brings me to want to share a few more of my favorites.

YuYu Hakusho ~ This is a very good sized anime, and perfect for someone who wants to catch up on an awesome classic from a few years ago. This shonen series was truly my first real exposure to anime in general, outside of the occasional Pokemon episode and DBZ episode my friend forced me to watch at his house. It has a compelling plot, and characters that were unique. I must say that I also enjoyed the English Dub of the show, and I actually prefer it to the Sub, which is strange because I mainly view subs, being a sort of "anime purist" if you will. However the dub is just one of the many strong features that YuYu offers. The growth of a teen, trying to fit into the newly discovered world around him, engaging in spectacular fights between monstrously powerful foes really impacted me when I was younger, to the point that even 10 years later, I would still remember one of the lines and surroundings from an arc in the series, even after only watching a few episodes. After watching it through for the first time last year, I realize how much I missed out on when CN/Toonami stopped airing YuYu Hakusho.
Indeed, however, the engaging plot and awesome fights were not the only things this series brought to me. With this series in particular, one crucial truth was imprinted. Its good to have an ending.
Let me elaborate. Throughout the series, there were a few points where the animation or something would go sub-par to the awesomeness that had become the norm, to explain, my roommate would say that "They were working on the ending" When I got to the ending, I understood why. The fact that the creators came up with a satisfying ending that wrapped up the storyline, and left the viewers with a sense of accomplishment and resolution was a great way to close the series. This brings me to a main point about the anime I watch. Endings are good. (well, theres one ending I absolutely abhor, but thats a story for later) If the story has a conclusion in its heyday (or at most any time) the result is a complete experience that can be remembered fondly and allows for greater spread of the anime. A common trend in my dorms is watching anime with friends, and it's much easier to say: "Hey lets rewatch Code Geass/Death Note/FMA etc", rather than "Hey lets watch Naruto/Bleach/One Piece/Detective Conan/etc." Another great feature about endings is that with a planned ending, there is much less chance for the series to accumulate filler episodes/arcs/etc that really don't forward the plot in any real sense of the process. (yes, Naruto, I'm looking at you) Finally, endings are great for concluding things, and if you have an ending, its better than scrambling on, continuing with the director's random urges at the time trying to keep the show popular.
Without a doubt, almost all of my favorite anime all have endings. (bolding after the fact so that "wall of text" can be condensed)

Anyway, diverging from my rant about endings and the awesomeness of YuYu Hakusho.

A MUCH more recent favorite of mine, and also a vote for one of the best anime ever:

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann ~ Basically, this anime takes all that is awesome about the giant mecha archetype, goes over the top with it, adds in great plot and breakneck pacing, and comes out with a series of 27 episodes that blows someone out of the water. This series was recommended to me here actually, about 10 months ago, and I never got around to completing it. I was sitting at about episode 8 when the syncing screwed up on the episodes. Needless to say, I just finished it a few weeks ago, and I am completely in awe of the greatness TTGL exudes. The story of self-proclaimed "Simon the digger" was one that truly surpassed most coming-of-age stories, showing the frail and scared side of human emotions as Simon deals with events that shatter the bubble of his life. In the end (Yes, another anime that ends, and it is an epic ending) the path Simon takes concludes brilliantly, leaving me absolutely stunned. If you watch only a few anime in your life, this is a must see.

I've drastically shortened my TTGL section, so that people who've not viewed it yet can see it without spoilers...

Umineko no Naku Koro ni. It's what happens when you combine Ace Attourney (without actual court cases) with Higurashi. Yes, it's as amazing as it sounds.
*SPOILER*
Everyone dies.

Mmm,

In no order:

Wolf's Rain- Really good. Set in the future, a bunch of tween-adults, who can turn into Wolves (i know lame sounding) try to find their place in the world. The learn of a kind of 'heaven' for their type, and they make it their goal to find it. There's alot of people who want to kill them, like bounty hunters and stuff, and it's really exciting.

D.Gray-Man- Allen Walker is a kid (like 15) who can use his innocence (basically innocense is the power given by God to destroy evil) to destroy Akumas (demons) created by the Millenium Earl. The Millenium Earl is the head of a family who is descended from Noah (yes, the one from the bible). The Earl's main goal is to flood the earth again, to cleanse the earth. As the Earl creates more and more Akumas (akumas are made when a person's loved one dies, and that person wants the loved one back soooo bad) bad things happen, and Allen starts killing them. Allen eventually hooks up with the Black Order, an orginization created to stop the Earl. The order is massive, and has many branches in places all over the world. Great story line, and many 'central' characters who are all very well developed. The story sucks you in with it's magicalness, and keeps you there with the great action and plot developement till the end (which never happens btw, the anime is cut short. You have to read the manga past episode 130 something).

Code Geass- Read what others said about it

Death Note- See Code Geass

Zatch Bell- I dunno, I really liked this. These little humans with elemental powers come to earth, and they fight each other to become king. Each of them has a magic book that must be kept safe if they are to survive. If the book is destroyed, they are sent back to their own world. Each Mamoodo, as they are called, must partner with a human (only one human can read any given spell book). It's a funny, yet serious, action anime. Loved the story.

I've got two:

Bleach: Who can't like a guy with orange hair slicing up evil people that have masks on? It's got a great plot, great characters, and awesome secret move thingies (a.k.a. Bankai/Hollowfication).

Death Note: Probably the best manga plot I have ever seen. Just yesterday I read the last one again and almost cried when **SPOILER** shot **SPOILER**.

I have alot but my current fav(and yes I'm a weird boy who happens to like magical grils stuff...and I'm not sure why...) is Shugo Chara and Shugo Chara doki.

Shugo Chara is about a girl named Amu that people refer to as "Cool and Spicy" but he's not like that at all. She's actually very shy and somewhat cynical(and not sure who she really is) so one day she wishes she could be different than how she is/how people see her. The next day she finds three weird eggs in here bed from which are born he guardian characters: Su, Miki and Ran. Together they set out to help amu find her true self...

I got 2 favorite animes:

Yu Yu Hakusho: pretty awesome anime and I just loved the whole Afterlife aspect and the storyline was such an interesting plot that I found myself hooked onto the seriers in no time. Fight scenes were some of the best in the anime world (from the very few animes I've seen anyway).

Digimon Savers: The first two seasons of Digimon were alright, then the next two began to suck, but this season became one of my favorite animes to watch in the original Japanese versions. This plot for Savers just drew me in. Very engaging storyline and I loved how they had a human as the main villain for once. Plus, I've always loved Agumon.

I can't really say what's the best anime out there since I don't watch enough of it.
~Cyber~

^ I actually kind of liked the concept of Series/Season Three, but after its initial season, I sort of became a bit deterred. The concept was great, and some of the Digimon looked amazing, but the plot seemed stale after the first ten episodes.
