Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

BT's Origins Report! Controversy over, back on topic please.

OK enough, I do not want a flame war so please lock this.

For the record
I am not, nor is my family upset at Vince or the judges. Vince is a super guy. It is really unfortunate. The judges made a very tough call and we accepted the decision. Stuff happens, let's move on.

Uh, NO.
I do not want my nationals report locked.
I have been continously trying to remind you all that that's what this is: MY NATIONALS REPORT.
This is NOT some kind of official rulings debate on what the penalty should have been. So stop arguing about it, all of you.

Guys, BT is right. Keep this thread open, but get back on topic! Discuss this on another thread!

Frankly, I don't think it needs to be discussed any more. This thing is already resolved, you guys are just beating a dead horse now.

Yes, and beating dead horses is about as pointless as talking to a dead guy. He's a guy, he's probably not gonna listen anyway, and two, he's dead, he can't hear you. Besides, the horse would probably come back to life and like, trample us. Like Ash's 30 Tauros.

Anyway, Good Job Mike! I love how you give Jeff props every tournament, but still make fun of his deck. Jeff is a monster with that deck sometimes. Xb (sometimes = most of the time).

I'd say see you at Worlds, but I suck, and won't be there, but Good Luck there, see ya at the Shack next week!

Shinobi Out.

Good Job Mike! Thanks for your props always you know my deck is a beast! Xb Anyways see ya at the Shack next week since I'm not good enought to get to Worlds. Xb

Sometimes things break either accidentally or on purpose. As judges we try to place the broken pieces back together to the best of our ability. At times however, sometimes things break so badly that we cannot fix it fairly. A player who shuffles in their cards to their deck, either intentionally or unintentionally, cannot be rewound. There is no fair way for either player to reconstruct the game. So don't look at the game loss in this situation as a penalty, but more so as an unavoidable result of a misplay. It was not meant to punish that player.

Well put Phil! You hit the nail on the head.
Eric, you are a class guy, also well put!
To those who think that this was not on topic and beating a dead horse.........
This was in his report. So it is part of the topic. In fact, it was a good sized paragraph!
This is an very serious charge. what you pretty much said was that the judging staff and PUI cheated for the sake of a PTO's kid. As one of the judges who was there, and judging the match, I don't think I am " beating a dead horse" by defending this.
But if it really were a " judging mistake", you would have 100 posts raking us over the coals! And the whole pokegym would be all over this. I tell you what, the whole staff did a GREAT job and worked their butts off this weekend. To make it fun for everyone. We strive every year to make nats better than the year before. And the only thanks we get is when you can point out something we miss or get wrong. But you were wrong this time, so I don't see why it's such a big deal for me or anyone else to point that out.
So don't put things like that in your post if you don't want someone to reply to it.
Rick

I read BT original post and didn't see an attack on the Judges or staff. Considering just how emotive the issue might get I though it was raised in a relatively calm fashion. I've seen assasination attempts and this wasn't one.

I for one am glad that BT mentioned the issue as it allowed the truth to emerge and not rumors to build in the background. It gave those involved the opportunity to respond. To clear the air before the rumors got out of hand. Most of us weren't at Nationals. So most of us would have NO KNOWLEDGE of the shift in rulling on shuffling your hand into the deck. Or disturbance to your prizes.

If you want to discuss the ramifications of the shift in penalty go here http://pokegym.net/forums/showthread.php?t=37841

Background info: In MY judges meeting Thursday night, I addressed several issues. Among them was the appropriate penalty for irreparable game state, which is a Game Loss.

Over the course of the event, the judging staff issued a handful of Game Losses for irreperable game state, per my instructions. These penalties are not the kind of penalties that will get a player suspended. They are technical errors, which break the game, and make it impossible to reset it in a fair manner.

During the final match, Kim called a Game Loss. I told him that I felt that the penalty was too harsh for the 10- group, and that perhaps a Prize Penalty was more in order. I then offered a suggestion on how to repair the game state. It was not the most fair way, but it would have allowed both players to finish out their game. Kim felt differently, but, as POP staff requested it, agreed to change the penalty.

As I left the play area, I told Vince what was going on, and he stated that it was not what we had done all weekend in regards to irreparable game state, and that we needed to be consistant. He had a valid point, though (as he himself admitted) he was wrong to make it during the event.

I spoke with Kim, who had already communicated my change to both players, and after 5-10 minutes, Dave, Kim and I all agreed that the initial Game Loss call was the correct one, so that was the penalty that was given. I had planned on delivering the explaination of what had happened to both Andrew and David, as well as their parents, but I just couldn't keep it together. The exhaustion of the weekend had gotten the best of me for the second time that weekend (the Miller's know all about the first time) and I had to leave the area.

Simply put, Kim made the correct call initially, and, had I kept my mouth shut, none of this would be an issue.

Thanks for the post. There is only one last thing to say on this topic, Andrew deserved to win. Simply put, he made the fewest mistakes. Congrats Andrew.

Wow. That was a stupid post. If the losing boys father posts that the other boy should have won. After having a few days to discuss the game and what transpired with his son. I am sure it is more than an opinion. probably based more on facts gleammed from those talks. I'm refering to Ancient Pokemon Trainer.

(slightly tongue in cheek)

Mike

A++++++

You and your staffs accesibility to us now and during a busy busy weekend is what makes (IMHO) your OP well worth participating in as a family. I'll always reserve the right to complain and praise you, them . After the heat of the moment I respect and appriciate your work. You have a good team.
