Canadian Nationals 2009

I thought they were in Vancouver. I remember someone telling me that

It apparently alternates year to year Vancouver to Toronto... im not too sure cuz ive only started playing this year....

Anyways this is gonna be funn... its gonna be my first Nationals... Good Luck to All

Yes I heard the same thing. I also heard Nationals will never be in Alberta but Bc is good enough for me

Arceus999 and Lucario-Master will be repping Team B for Seniors.
Bidier's Team B division will be sweeping Masters =P.

We were 6 players from Montreal at Regionals. For Nationals, a lot more people will come due to school being over or almost over! :thumb:

My guess would be at least 12 players from Montreal will come.

The Ugly Crew + many friends will be there. Looks like 8+ from Georgetown (and a lot of deck building between now and then)

For Alberta i dont know how many players are coming out considering Exams, But ill be there i am doing exams early, I say if you want to go to Nats... Do your exams early.

Well... since I'm back in Brampton for the next 4 months... I might be able to make my way into Toronto for a day...

Team Utopia will be there!

I have a feeling this event will be huge if the regionals were any indication! Be prepared for a top 32 masters and top 16 Jr's!

Western Canada Regionals attendance was as follows.
Players (121)
Junior Division (31)
Senior Division (28)
Masters Division (62)

Eastern Canada Regionals attendance was as follows.
Players (153)
Junior Division (37)
Senior Division (40)
Masters Division (76)

Total = 274 players.....................................OMG

We may even bring 2 carloads just to make sure everyone can attend! And I am sure Garret will bring his van overflowing! Attendance has been great at league lately. We are going to start promoting this weekend.

We went to BC last year and this will probably have double the attendance. So I think you westerners should try your best to attend. Especially the Alberta crew you guys were a blast. Get another bus.

Terry, me and you buddy in the top 4 this year! Maybe Garret or maybe even Curtis could make top 4 cut that would be too funny. 4 majorly old coots.

kungfu out!

P.S. Maybe we can make a deal with Air canada for some group rates or something. Terry threaten to stop flying with them they will listen!

I've heard nothing to change my expectation that there will be very, very few BC and Alberta players. Sticking Nats in the middle of final exams more or less ensures that. (Note that I'm not saying the date's intent was malicious in intent so that would happen AT ALL - it's not like there was any other feasible date. But I still believe that that will be the end result.)

And there won't be a bus this year; even driving non-stop, Edmonton to Toronto is 36 hours. Even those that do decide to venture to work Nats around finals will have no choice but to fly; you would have to leave Thursday afternoon at the latest and wouldn't get back until Monday afternoon. That's a lot of time for exams to be in. Obviously the swing is even worse for people from Vancouver; it's just over 42 hours non-stop driving.

If everybody from Eastern Canada regionals shows up, Nats will hit maybe 175. I'd be willing to bet money against it breaking 200.

actually last year my daughter and myself flew out friday afternoon. Got to BC early evening. Stayed at the hotel and played saturday, stayed at hotel and visited stanley park on sunday very early morning. Walked the paths, went tot the swings, water park, aquarium, major big trees! It was awesome! Flew home at 3 pm and I went to work monday and my daughter went to school.

We will never forget that trip we loved it.

Hey, You know I'm gonna be there! I'm involved with the Adopt-a-champ initiative, so it would be pretty silly not to find out who comes in 3rd! Since I already know I won't be judging this time (I've been offered to help with other stuff, but I haven't got any details yet), who knows, maybe I'll play. (Wouldn't that be a hoot if I came in 3rd! Na ... little chance of that hapnin.) In the meantime, I'll be offering rides at league, and working on decks all through the Battle Roads. This will be a Canadian Nationals to remember.

Well, I'll be one of a handful of Alberta players there. I really doubt there will be more than around 20-30 of us from the West.

Be prepared for a top 32 masters

I don't think we'll have T32, that would require at least 52 players that didn't go to Eastern Regionals, and I doubt more then 20 or so masters will come from the west. 7 rounds of swiss with T16 cut seems more realistic.

Just curious but is there like a Special Deal going on at the Hotel for
People playing in Nationals? Also what's the average price per room
for those that are going?

I sense a great turnout too! There were missing people at Regionals and as far as I know they are going to be there for Nats. T32 is certainly a strech goal for Masters. But, 100 players in Masters might just happen. Especially if Quebec doubles its contingent like Time Zero indicates. If you look at last year in BC there were, 3 Juniors (mine and yours), 1 Senior and 5 Masters from out East. I'd say if we got 20 from out West this year we'd be lucky. {Shakes fist at large land mass between the Pokemon Hubs of our great country with no disrespect to SK/MN and North Western Ontario}

So here's my take

154 + 10% (Growth) = 170
New Quebec Players = 10 (and huge props for the whole growth here, its great to see this new pool of players)
Players from Out West = 20
----
200

I think I may have already blown my luck for this year at Regionals -- Sean is coming so my chance of making the cut is approximately equal to the chance of the Leafs making the Stanley cup before I turn 38! Oh wait that happened today --- what were you saying about majorly old coots.

P.S. Maybe we can make a deal with Air canada for some group rates or something. Terry threaten to stop flying with them they will listen!

Its unfortunate that Cathay Pacific doesn't fly inside Canada, otherwise I'd probably have some stroke. I don't think I've seen an Air Canada flight in quite some time. Maybe I'll threaten to cash in my points at once and bankrupt the airline. Hmmm....no that probably doesn't work.

A few other notes:

West Jet Round Ticket to TO for dates in question ~$450 from Vancouver / ~$400 from Calgary (not terrible)

Exams -- High school teachers are normally flexible, ask to write early. Most times they'll say yes.
