Catcher confirmed for Emerging Powers

... i thought that catcher will make the game less luck based... it won't be who can flip the most reversal heads... cuz THAT just sucks. I actually prefer catcher over reversal since obviously it doesn't depend on luck. i may shift my opinion but catcher format = a bit less flippy format. yes, there is the first turn. but hopefully we can turn this around... i hope... :/

I hate Catcher so much...

In my Reshiboar, I'm playing 4 Switch, so if someone wants to play Catcher, they can't KO Reshiram or Emboar that easily, and next turn I'll play Switch...

Idk if it will work, but...

How much do you see the price of Pokemon Catcher rising to before the actual release of Emerging Powers?
I think it'll go up a lot to like 8-9 dollars, but a few weeks after the release it will settle down. I bought 4 for 3 bucks each so hopefully that was a good buy.

If you'd play catcher instead of that 4 switch even that Boar in the active position's going to get you a prize. ;D
just sayin'

(Oh well, I love Pokegym theorymon, it's just so funny!)

I suppose that if I only play 4 durants and 1 rotom, then I won't have anything important for my opponent to catcher up. Something is bound to get KO'ed, so the catcher makes no difference.

Yay, overhyped cards. Will it be good? Yes. Will it PERMANENTLY STOP NON-BASICS DECK FROM WORKING EVER AGAIN? Probably not, though I don't claim to know one way or the other. Just wait it out.

Catcher is not cool! It makes Stage 2 decks even more obsolete than they already are.

okay... then how did stage two decks survive nats with all the reversal? yes, they did flip tails but reversal is basically like catcher except its flippy. i just love how people are complaining on how flippy the format is and now they are complaining that catcher will ruin the game. stick with something will ya? :nonono:

Maybe those players got bad flips. Catcher on the other hand always works with no drawback. The draw back to reversal is that you 'could' play a dead card. I play a ton of games where I flipped 7 tails on Pokemon Reversal and the worse part was playing 3 of my 4 Junk Arms to get a card back just for the flip to fail.

In a Pokemon Reversal format, Stage 2 decks worked because there was a chance that reversal could fail and that player would waste a lot of resources trying to get that cards back. Discarding 6 to 8 cards from your hand for a failed card effect is almost a game lost against a good player. Bench sitter also could be played just because of the chance of the card failing.

In a Pokemon Catcher format, Stage 2 decks, while I'm not going to say won't work, but have a heck of a hard time trying to do anything because fast basic and stage 1 decks will always target off the basic Pokemon that will become threats later. The fact is the card works all the time and had no drawback. They should just reprint Bill while they are at it.

Sure Catcher will not be in every opening hand but playing stage to deck will be a huge risk for the player running it.

So I guess now Reversal is completely dead. But will catcher be reprinted when it's rotated out or will reversal be useful to hold onto? Thinking ahead.

They should just reprint Bill while they are at it.

Well they did, they just gave it a significant drawback: making it a supporter.

Granted, if Pokemon Catcher was released as a supporter I think there would be a lot less complaining about it as people would talk about what a strategic card it is. But how often are you going to want to use more than one Pokemon Catcher a turn?

This is true, but I think it's more along the lines of an instant guaranteed Pokemon Reversal. It seems like people complain about the possibility of chance and outcome of a coin flip, but a lot of others can't stand seeing a broken card when the luck factor is removed.

Along the lines of Bill, it shouldn't be a supporter. There's so many cards that could easily outdo that makes it not play-worthy at all. Like... Emcee's Chatter, TR Trickery, etc. Cards with the same if not more draw power AND extra benefits.

If it was a supporter, you could not use any other supporter to set up or recover or anything. Oh, and no junk arm.

I personally think junk arm is overrated though. I'm waiting for people to see that along with me. It can hurt more than people realize.

either way, can people decide what to complain about? i mean it seems to me that people are complaining how flippy the format is but then start to complain that catcher will ruin the format. which i know is true but lets see... people complained about last format for lack of variety. people complain pre-catcher because of the flippy format. now people are complaining about catcher ruining the format. what DO you people want? or is it the company's fault? as a side note, i have no clue why i wrote this.

I'm just saying it puts a trainer in your hand, but it has it's negative points too that we don't realize (or that we do realize and we tech because of it.) I'm sure it's negative side has changed the outcome of matches already a few times.

But the thing is that usually the pros outweigh the cons. And the other thing to remember is that a deck can utilize the weakness of a card and turn it into a strength. Playing against a MewGar deck? Junk Arm lets you get rid of extra pokemon in your hand. Playing TyRam? You can dump a few fire energy since you'll just be afterburner-ing them back.

Basically it's like having the Uno Draw Four card (to steal an analogy from another game). The only time it's bad for you is when it's stuck in your hand, and it becomes a wild card to get you out of any tight spot.
