Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Crystal Lake, Illinois CC Report

Hmmmm,

Well, I guess some people don't see things the way I do. I think that if you really let one person's comments offend you to such a degree that you have to learn to handle things better. My mother is fat, my dad is old and ugly, I'm going to hell for being atheist, and I'm ugly, flabby and have nothing better to do with my life than play a trading card game devoted to a yellow rat targeted at 8 year olds. Oops. Guess I'll have to go cry myself to sleep now. I guess the days of being told to not let what others say get to you has been replaced with cry to the authorities and sue. It is the American Way after all. There is no reason to get so upset over it. Does that mean it won't happen? No. But I think rather than blow up about words being said, I think you need to take things less personally too. Either way, this IS a private board and it can and should be moderated, but I still think if your honestly offended you need to grow some thicker skin.

Martin- I still disagree with you that she has moved on, and until I see some proof of it, be it either in what she says or how she acts on the boards, I will not believe it. I also still stand by the point that there are certain posts I would like to see removed.

Also, Pooka, good job, like you need more of an ego boost ;) You know your good, we know your good, what more needs to be said ;)

YJ- I'm not one of those better safe than sorry types. I don't see any credence to that fear, and I'm not going to change myself over some remote chance that defies logic.

I'd like to add my name to the list of Pooka worshippers. :thumb:

He has played at many of my tournaments, and against me at others. He is a great guy and a great player.

GJ Pooka!

This might seem as a cheap shot... but oh well.

Maybe you don't realize how much attacking ones religion hurts them because you don't believe in any higher power? So I really don't see how you have any idea what it's like. I'm sure you get attacked for being Athiest sometimes, or I'd imagine. However, that's not ENTIRELY THE SAME as having someone trash you and your God. Now I don't know much about other relgions as I really don't have any reason to believe them. I'm Christian and that's how it's going to stay, so I won't act like I know anything about Pokemom's religion... because I don't. However just recently I was attacked by a fellow player for being Christian and I didn't like it. Why? Because he was not only insaulting me but mocking Jesus, the one who died for ME and everyone else. Sorry, but that tends to make me angry.

YJ- I'm not one of those better safe than sorry types. I don't see any credence to that fear, and I'm not going to change myself over some remote chance that defies logic.

Stranger things have happened, you getting top 2 at worlds for one.  I'm just saying even tho there's a small chance it could happen... maybe it's better to NOT risk it?

YJ- Nah, I'm not gonna take anything personal you say man, you know were friends. We disagree here, but that doesn't mean anything in the long run, so don't take what i say too personally, as it doesn't change how I view you at all. But yes, I may not believe in much of a higher power, but there are things I feel very strongly about in my life and I have gone through harassment over them, and due to past experience I realize its better to just shrug things off. I had been harassed at school from 1st grade until junior year pretty much non-stop. To say I don't know what it feels like to be attacked like that, being that I was a fat, geeky pokemon player with almost no social skills, is pretty wrong. I know better than most people here do what it feels like, and frome xperiencing this, I know that the best way to deal with it is to ignore it and be the stronger person. You can't force everyone to shut their mouths, so learn to not be so offended. Its better to control something about YOURSELF ( how you react ) than hope to change how other people are,s omething you have no control over.

TTar: Very true. We have a lot in common. I was a comic book geek. However, wouldn't it have been nice if the school authorities had been willing or able to give you some respite from all that harassment?

so true

Hey dont make fun of us,

Well, none of you guys made it to the top 16 at worlds, Pooka did, plus this group is new and fresh, we really havent gotten together and gone to any major tourneys, like you guys have already, so cut us some slack, we're workin on it. Plus, some members are newer than others, so dont assume we are all veterans. Im sure once we all get together and help each other work on our strengths and weaknesses than we can become a pretty powerful group.

See ya

P.S. Im sure at some point this tourney season you can regret your "you suck" comments, if not in cities well hopefully in states, regionals, etc, etc......

Heck, Jimmy, at least one of the best players in my area did not let someone play a Double Rainbow on a Rocket's Hitmonchan EX, and then use an ATM rock on the same poke?!?!?

That is a totally Chicago thing to do, I guess!!!

Oh, I'm a comic geek too. Play Heroclix, VS System, buy a few runs weekly. Big into Magneto. And part of the problem with the school stepping in is that it never really made you feel better about yourself. If you reach the point where it doesn't matter what others say, you feel better about yourself and its a reach sense of identification. I know for one that if you do get the school to intervene, most of the time it prompts more harassment. Now, I don't think that carries the analogy over to what happened on the board very well when we take it to that tanget, but usually when your forced to have intervention on your behalf it makes you feel less like you stood up for yourself, and it usually makes others resentful and often leads to more problems than if you learn to tough it out or deal with the issue first hand. Again, that doesn't really carry over to the comments said here, but it does apply to the school example. Theres going to always be a point in someone's life where they are going to be left on their own to fend for themselves, and you can't always have authority there to back you up, I'd rather have it so that people use stupid comments like this to build their tolerance so that when it comes to instances where someone has no one to fall to but themselves they can handle it better. I know thats getting dumb and philosophical at this point and sounds like a dumb reason to "defend religion bashing " but I just find it irritating that people get so irrate over words. Now a days with everyone being forced to be so politically correct it seems like you call someone mean and your getting a lawsuit. I don't think thats practical, I don't think its right, and I think people have to realize not everyones going to be able to get along all of the time, and harmless things need to be shrugged off.

TTar: Again, good points and there is some truth in what you say.

However, if we allow topics to get highjacked into high testosterone rants and insults, then we don't get to have conversations such as this. And allowing pot shots at broad targets such as religion or race will quckly lead into heated, low-brow arguments that give off much heat but shed little light. The board would be little but angry jibes being tossed back and forth. It doesn't really matter if the person is hurt or not, the board is hurt. And that's our primary concern.

I didn't mean that you didn't know what it felt like to be attacked or something for things you like and what not, I'm just saying it might be a little different. I don't know lol. I'm glad I didn't offend you, I don't want you mad at me or nothing =p.

Hey I've been waiting for someone to bring this up. I caught this out of the corner of my eye and though I'll probably regret this, who actually were the players involved in this. Adam was hadling this one and I was too busy to stick around. Just want to know who on my team needs to be encouraged to watch the game going on as well as your own hand, and I want to know who actually played the cards b/c I believe it probably wasn't an accident and I want to watch them in the future.

Sean aka SoSlow aka A head judge from the Chicago area played a Double Rainbow Energy and an ATM Rock on his Rocket's Hitmonchan EX breaking 5 rules in one turn, FIVE:

1. Can't play DRE on a Basic
2. Can't play DRE on an EX
3. Can't play rock on a Basic
4. Can't play rock on an EX
5. Can't play rock on a pokemon with a trainer in his name

Five things, thats a warning, gameloss, DQ, jail time, and electirc chair.

Definitely not the only time we have seen the basic EX rock move used by a Chicago player though, eh?

Worst part is....not convinced they are always "unintentional" mistakes...

:nonono:

I have my own naughty/nice list going...

M45

Scariest part for me was the silence of the person who got called out on the mistake...which means either ignorance of the rules on these cards...or stuck because he was caught...either way, VERY unaccepatable for a HJ, especially while playing.

I'm pretty sure what SoSlow did was an accident. He's pretty well known and respected, so I can't imagine him cheating on purpose in front of all those people. Also to support that it was an accident, not to be mean, but he is really kinda "slow". Sometimes I'll talk to him and ill get a blank stare with the reply "huh?". He's good at zoning out, and losing focus during matches. Still though, theres no excuse for breaking FIVE rules. Quite frankly, I'd rather have someone stall me out and flip the table (which is becoming a trend among top players now).

Would make for a good contest in the RTC:
Come up with a game play that would break the greatest number of rules all in one move...

I believe I've already done it =x

It was very much indeed a mistake (and the truth is, time was called and I could have just said end turn and still'd have won the match...but no I'm too stupid for that.)

And I should definately have gotten a major penalty for that...but that was in the hands of your fine judge and the thing was purely on my not reading the cards before I play them. I've been preaching it to my brother every time he plays in a tourny yet I didn't do it myself. How foolish.

I'd like to play much more than once a year maybe? I think after that day I had a much better understanding of what gets played and what I should be reading up more on rulings and such (ie dre and atm rock). It also gives me a chance to see how other judges go about assigning penalties and such. I think I must be the judge that plays the least so I definately want to play a bit more this year at other venues. This was also the best I'd done at a constructed tournament..like..ever. (I'd still gone 4-2 if a proper penalty were assigned for what I did and if my opponent had realised it too. I remember in my first game my opponent played DRE on a Vileplume ex and I let it sit there but then the judge came and it went goodbye).

Meg- I guess that would be under your definition "ignorance of the rules of these cards" because I definately did not try to cheat. If I were told I couldn't have done that when I first initially played it it probably would have changed the outcome of the game quite a bit. "I forgot" sorry. I've not been the first either, so please give me a break for not running around saying what an idiot I am for forgetting, I have a more constructive things to do.

Many have also neglected what is stated in the floor rules section 22.5
"In best of three matche (generally only used in higher-level events), use the following series of criteria to determine the outcome:
4. If the best-of-three match occurs during Single-Elimination and the game is unfinished after the extra turns are completed, the game continues normally. The next player to win a Prize card wins the match. There cannot be draws in Single Elimination."
